No house rules, but some provisos:

1. Game will start on 36 hour quickhost. We may switch to a longer hosting interval by popular demand after things get interesting.

Please don't join if you can't keep up with this pace, but see 6, below.

2. Victory will be 67% province victory. That's 122 out of 182.

3. Graphs off, renaming on, magic sites 50, independent strength 6. Other settings standard, unless I've forgotten something.

4. My wireless setup can usually be counted on to give us problems a couple of times over the course of the game. I generally catch this and will pause the server so no one stales, but tolerance of an odd stale turn or two is a preferred qualification for players.

5. I am located in the Eastern U.S. time zone.

6. I may temporarily switch to quickhost-only to accomodate players' travel plans, etc.

7. Claim your nation by posting in this thread. Game will start 24 hours after we hit 8 players, but we'll take up to 10 if they sign in before then.

8. We will use Zen's Pretender Mod v.1.81. (http://www.dominions-2.org/downloads/conceptp181.zip) Note we are not using the Spell Mod.

9. I.P. is zombie.dyndns.org and port no. is 56000. Players claiming a nation on the server without doing so in this thread first will be kicked.

List o'players:

1. Jotunheim: Jurri
2. C'tis: Rev. Zombie
3. Pangea: Nappa
4. Vanheim: Patrick
5. Pythium: Traglar
6. R'lyeh: Lingchih
7. Ermor: Cohen
8. Man: Saeter
9. Abysia: Tuidjy
10. Cainehill?

Jurri

I'll try Arco

Cainehill

If you're willing to go to straight QH the 21st through ...27th I could join. Girlfriend is going to be in this continent for the first time in over a year (I was there for New Years) so I have to commit my time to her that week.

Patrick

I would want Vanheim.

But you'll be able to take some turns during this time? If so, okay!

Traglar

Abysia, if that's ok.
First MP game for me, so please forgive my not knowing what I'm doing, however that ends up manifesting itself.

I'll take R'lyeh.

Since it looks like we have some new players, I want to be sure everyone knows that they need to download the mod linked in the first post of the thread (saving it to your dominions2/mod directory) and make sure it is Enabled on your Dominions2 Preferences when you are creating your Pretender.

Let me know if there are any questions. It's imporatant we get this right, because it may screw up your Pretender and the game if everyone does not use the mod to create their Pretender.

Tuidjy
November 9th, 2004, 03:35 PM
Traglar, I really wanted to beat up on Cohen using Abysia. Any chance you
reconsider? Otherwise, I would play Pythium...

No, I fixed that. I was just not looking in the right place for the mods folder. I'm running the Zen Pretender mod 1.8.1 right now in fact, in another game.

I see at least 8 players have claimed nations, but only 5 loaded Pretenders on the server. I will start the game as soon as the rest of you load, so let's move it!

Thank you very much!

I really appreciate it. Cohen has been insulting me by saying that I can only
play air nations, and he has been harping about how Abysia is underpowered.
I think that someone is about eat his words, and I just hope it is Cohen.

Arco, unless he has changed his choice since the post in which he kindly offered

It's simple, but not very well documented. Most of the Dom2 files (maps, etc.) reside inside the Dom2 Package on OSX. But the mods directory lives in the Dominions2 game saves directory, at the root of the hard drive. Just drop your mod in there, and it will work just fine.

This way of naming commanders is more common than you may think. Both Cohen and
I, and maybe other players in the game use a similar notation. Of course, if
he were my vanadrott, he would have been called Wizard(E), but it's quite close.

Hey, there is worse. My girlfriend calls her subjects 'Wandering bum', 'Frothing
Fanatic', 'Ha'pint O'Newts', 'Stargazing dabbler', etc. And then there was
Norfleet...

On the other hand, I would have let everyone know the random pick of my prophet.
I call my prophets 'Prophet'. :-)

Bluebird
November 15th, 2004, 05:12 AM
Naa - that is boring ... where is the roleplaying fun?

Jurri
November 15th, 2004, 11:42 AM
Exactly... I myself name my random dudes similarly (actually even more curtly with just the paths) but come on, you've only got one prophet (at a time, that is)!

And hey Tuidjy, do you really play the Cohen-build or is Anya just a random jab?

Tuidjy
November 15th, 2004, 02:30 PM
Jurri said:And hey Tuidjy, do you really play the Cohen-build or is Anya just a random jab?

Lessee.

No, I play my own build, because I think Cohen knows less about Dominions II
after nearly an year of playing than my girlfriend knew after two weeks.

Yes, Anya is a jab at Cohen.

No, there is nothing random about it.

Oh, and it is my first try at Abysia, SP or MP. I am just using my standard
scales, and my standard combatant paths... Trying out the Virtue, because she
has been vastly improved by Zen.

Biggest change is the Oceania mod. I'd rather not patch the server just yet, myself.

Saeter
December 18th, 2004, 03:44 AM
I have another MP game also and it could be hard to arrange update of both at the same time. Otherwise patching would be fine with me.

Could the pace please be changed to 72 hour quickhost next turn? I am moving to another town today and will not get internet access immediately. So 36 quickhost might work but 72 would be safer.

Tuidjy
December 18th, 2004, 03:25 PM
I have a habit of keeping multiple Versions running on my PC, so I am willing to
go either way. Staying with 2.14 is to my advantage, but I believe in always
using the official rules, so I vote for moving to 2.15.

BUT, I very much would like that a decision is taken as soon as possible, and
that once it is taken, we stick to it. I remember scrambling to produce enough
commanders to hold all of my clams when the host switched to 2.14 with no
warning, and I would like to avoid a repeat.

Yes; I will probably pause the timer over the holiday, or at least extend the hosting period.

My other MP games went to 2.15 so I took the plunge. There have been no major issues that I have seen.

Reverend Zombie
December 23rd, 2004, 01:45 PM
Timer is paused, QH is on.

Does anyone have any info on Caelum/Bluebird?

Caelum was about to stale Last night, so I turned the timer off early. But Bluebird has not responded to my PM yet, and if Caelum hasn't taken its turn by this evening I will force the host that should have occurred Last night, unless there's a good reason I shouldn't.

Regardless, the timer will remain off for the holiday. 48 hr. QH schedule will resume on Monday December 27.

I have a question about this and other (ZenCradle&Pretender decelerating) games on Zombie's server. It looks to me if hosting delay changes with each host. What are the offical times between hostings?

Reverend Zombie
January 8th, 2005, 12:37 PM
Officially:

36 for this one, 48 for the other.

I left the weekend timer-pause on accidentally (it was on over the holidays); that accounts for the current discrepancy.

Sorry about that.

Dudes! Dudes! Help, Tuidjy is bullying me!

Seriously (as far as the word can be applied), though, it seems Abysia has a rather nice slew of artifacts, all the blood uniques and powerful armies (in comparison to me at least, but I suck like a pro). To top it I witnessed him hellbinding poor Nephele under his rule, so things look grim indeed. One might add that from what I've seen, his pretender alone is enough to off Man (yes, that's you, Saeter) so I'd suggest a joint move from the remaining players right now. I doubt if even that is enough, but one has to at least try, right? Did I mention his absolutely astonishing research prowess? Oh, well, I'm dead in any case, so do what you will, everyone! But at least consider yourselves warned.

Also, now that we have hit the 50 turn mark, and given the recent DNS troubles, would anyone strenuosly object to 48hr. QH schedule?

The extra 12 hours ought to leave enough time for me to catch problems and avoid any additional stales.

Oh, come on, you are exagerating... You are the one that killed my poor archdevil
not once, but four times. I have never killed any of your guys but once.

Seriously (as far as the word can be applied), though, it seems Abysia has a rather nice slew of artifacts, all the blood uniques and powerful armies (in comparison to me at least, but I suck like a pro).

Exagerations, exagerations... I do not even have the alchemist stone, for Pete's
sake. And without counting those you blew up to smittereens, I barely have half
the blood uniques... Hell, I do not even have all the ice devils. As for the
armies, the majority are crossbowmen and archers. Hard working blokes that I
needed to employ taking down Caelum's walls, after the birdies shamelessly
attacked me without warning.

And you do not suck - I lifted the siege from the capital only this turn, and
didn't even kill anyone.

To top it I witnessed him hellbinding poor Nephele under his rule, so things look grim indeed.

Well, did I ask to be attacked (without a warning, again) by the main army of
Vanheim? I watched them wipe out the flower of Ermor's mages, of course I was
going to defend myself. I got lucky, is all...

One might add that from what I've seen, his pretender alone is enough to off Man (yes, that's you, Saeter)

And I assure you that Man is last nation I would ever attack. We have been
good neighbors, and I fully intend to keep it this way.

so I'd suggest a joint move from the remaining players right now. I doubt if even that is enough, but one has to at least try, right?

Oh, come on... you are just flattering me. I am sure that C'tis and Man have
more pressing concerns than a peaceful nation like Abysia that is struggling
with two powerful opponents. Admit it, you are secretely in the employ of
Pangaea's AI, trying to distract its future victims while it backstabs them.
Shame on you!

Did I mention his absolutely astonishing research prowess? Oh, well, I'm dead in any case, so do what you will, everyone! But at least consider yourselves warned.

Just a few sages... C'tis knows about them since the very beggining - I am so
peaceful that I keep my main research facilities in a border province.

-Jurri, the utterly incompetent; Chief of the giants

Oh, do not be such an alarmist... relax, everything is under control.

Oh yeah, if someone wants gems, give a shout. I won't be needing them where I'm headed.

Oh, I can use some. What would you like in exchange?

Come on, seriouly, can say I have posted even one tiny lie here? The accusation
that you are working for Pangaea was just a figure of speach, and everything else
is the naked truth!

Damn! Did Legacyspy rat me out, or was it Cainehill? 'Cause they are the only ones who should know about my pact with all the various Pangaeas Nappa left behind! (He had plenty.)

I see quite a few untruths here, let me pick them out:

And you do not suck - I lifted the siege from the capital only this turn, and
didn't even kill anyone.

I do too! Why else could you utterly destroy me in ~3 turns? And it's my capital we're talking about, so it's hardly assuring that you both own it, and have lifted my 'siege.'

Well, did I ask to be attacked (without a warning, again) by the main army of
Vanheim? I watched them wipe out the flower of Ermor's mages, of course I was
going to defend myself. I got lucky, is all...

Luck has nothing to do with it. I'm sure it was pure, mad skillz that must have made you bring the most suitable dudes to welcome Patrick's entourage. Poor Patrick, being devastated on turn one of his valiant rescue attempt. And when I say rescue, I mean rescuing the world from the cruel overlord, peeps! And when I say attempt, I really mean the saddest failure since the foolhardy 'defense of Jotunheim.'

Oh, come on... you are just flattering me. I am sure that C'tis and Man have
more pressing concerns than a peaceful nation like Abysia that is struggling
with two powerful opponents.

Now, I can't say for sure that it's a lie that you are sure that C'tis and Man have better things to do than try to stop you, but I think you are not sure that it is so. In fact, I wager if you gave it thought (as I'm sure you have), you'd conclude that from their respective points of view Man and C'tis couldn't do anything more worthwhile if their goal was victory.

Then to tackle the two powerful opponents claim. Who are they? 'Cause as far as I know you are facing me, who suck beyond reasonable doubt, and Van, whose main force you half converted and half killed. So where's the power?

Oh, and to conclude the dissection: Since I'm neither insincere nor excessive, how is it flattery?

relax, everything is under control.

This can't be true! If it were, you wouldn't need to dispute my claims. And how can I relax if everything is under your control?

There is no use denying the truth, for the nations of the world shall not stand idly by while you subjugate us one by one! Justice shall prevail, since already the lizards and the men are riding with haste towards you capital! Oh, and isn't it conclusive proof that you are evil, that you've had three consecutive independent uprisings in as many turns? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

2.14, for the duration of the game. Have you had any difficulties along these lines? It's possible that I used the wrong version when I had to re-install Windows.

I am dead myself as well. Abysia may won the game already.
This turn, Petar killed 60 bane soldiers, 50 mechanical
horrors, much troops, much commanders, and my Amelie with
only 8 commanders. I killed only 1 Warlock, with a randomy
Blade Wind.

Here are four powerhouses he had in battle. He has many,
many more. Some in Hall of fame, as well. He uses
Wrathful skies, Heat from hell and Flame Storms, and
teleports like an astral nation.

The abilities are: Air Queen - hit points, Archdevil -
fatigue reduce.

I am finished. I will cast some killing spells at Abysia
and send you guys clams and left pearls. Then I will AI.

UNITE AGAINST DEVILS, IT MAY BE TOO LATE!

Tuidjy
February 26th, 2005, 12:50 AM
I sure hope you sent the clams/pearls on this turn, because I doubt there are
many clam carriers left unfried :-) By the way, what's up with trying to get
everyone on my back? This is not a newbie game, I am sure the players have an
idea about what is going on. I fully expect to face a All-vs-One alliance as
soon as Pangaea is dead. As far as I am concerned, C'tis and R'lyeh have
practically declared war - one has take a province next to my capital, the other
has cast a global enchantment that is destroying my provinces.

As for the Celebrities snapshots, don't you think that this takes a bit away
from the game? I have been besieging that castle for what feels like forever.
You are depriving those who had scouts watching the battle from the satisfaction
of a well executed recon. As a matter of fact they got another show this turn.
I certainly hope to put the Airqueen you just gifted me to better use than the
last one I got from you... As for your prophet, you can be sure, he will serve
me well. Actually, I intend to use him to take your last province....

Nyah-nyah-neener! (An attempt to reach the level of maturity of the last post)

She must have thought she was visiting Pangaea. I can assure you that the
warlock apprentice who scried the two provinces in question has been harshly
punished - he was thrown into a fire pit and left there.

Reverend Zombie said:Oh come, now. One province a turn, randomly selected from all coastal provinces (not necessarily yours)??? A mere nuisnance, surely, and not a declaration of war.

Not even a nuisance anymore! Your undead decided to socialize with my undead,
and droped at my annual undead/demon get-together. Sadly, there was a dispute
over who gets to suck the brains of a recently deceased bloodhedge druid...
I am sorry to inform you that no one from your fleet made it back to the ships.

The great kingdom of C'tis wants to thank Abysia for their very generous book-loan program. Anubis needed some light reading this month, and the Tome should do quite nicely.

Tuidjy
March 9th, 2005, 01:39 PM
You are welcome. I cannot say I am happy about it, but what can I do? The
fashion seems to be rings of wizardry, this season. No one cares about books
anymore, so they end up on the battlefield... something about them stopping
arrows (doesn't work).

But can you tell me who's the impostor that shows up after 'Summon Air Queen' and
what you have done with the real Thuella? As far as I can tell, this is the
impostor's record:

Summoned by Vanheim.
Changes sides, to Abysia, in the first battle she's in.
Dies, next turn, to a single scout employed by Jotunheim.
Summoned by Vanheim.
Changes sides, again.
Teleports into battle, panics, forgets that she can fly, and dies while running.

That does not sound like the Thuella I know. So, whoever has the real Queen of
Air under lock, prepare to face the full wrath of her sisters.

Usually it is nothing exhorbitant, something like half your provinces. But
with all this fighting, our Empire needs resources, so I think we will double
the fines.

Surely Abysia must be close to the requisite two-thirds of the map's provinces for the victory condition, yes?

I do not insist on using the 'number of provinces' win condition. It is fine
for breaking stalemates, but stuff is still happening all the time in this game.
If everyone feels like surrendering, sure, but I think that we can take the game
at least to the point when Man has joined the fray.

By the way, I have 67 temples and at least 21 uncastled provinces, thus about
ninety total. This is closer to half than to two thirds.

Well I don't know how it happened, but I staled this turn. And it was not the right turn to stale. I did the orders very carefully offline but must have done something wrong when uploading them. Not that I believe we had much chance anyway, but this certainly made it worse.

Sorry about that.

Tuidjy
March 22nd, 2005, 07:33 PM
It is a shame that you stalled, but it would not have made that much of a
difference. Without exception, my attackers teleported. Your orders would have
not been executed by the time they hit.

The exception to this is the troll/elf/wolf army that routed my Air Queen (and
that was a bug, the ritual of returning failed to clear when I removed the damn
armour). With orders, it would have moved after the attack.

Wow. I knew that Man was lucky, but how much luck does it take for a S3 mage
to win a magic duel against an S10?! It is a bit too late for this to stop
Abysia, but I must say I am annoyed.

In any case, I think it is time for me to ask for a surrender.
I have a 100 astral, 80 fire, and 60 earth gem generator income, more than
300 gems per turn from sites and globals, and 10 devils per turn from contracts.
With the exception of the Eternal Pyre, my globals have at least 200 extra
gems put into them, and I do not think that anyone has supercombatants
that can take on my top five.

I do not mind playing to the bitter end, if your alliance has something up its
sleeve. What do you guys say?
