At the end of a just-finished SP game, I tried Wish and Gift of Reason for some units which were new to me. I GOR a Son of the Sun (enslaved from a Faerun scenario) and he got back only his baseline magic (1F I think). I then tried it on a wished Vastness and was surprised to see no item slots but it had Astral 3. Other than Tartarians I haven't used GOR much.

What units do you find useful or hold surprises when GORed? Is there a list somewhere? I think this would make a good new column in Edi's unit spreadsheet (what magic paths and slots a unit gains after GOR). I assume all pretender forms will have only their basic magic, as the SoS did, and as I have seen here for a VQ recently. Enlighten everyone with your best finds...

Mainly the interesting things to GOR are tartarians. They have a variety of static and random picks.

OK, I feel foolish, I just noticed there are notes for this in his latest Dom2_DB_Units I downloaded. Genius!

Let me ammend my question to 'How complete is it?' There are a lot of '-' and I'm not sure if that means none or not known. Thing That Should Not Be? Hydra? Terrasque? Seige Golem? Iron Dragon? Juggernaut? Phantasmal Beast? Abomination?

I was hoping that the Celestial Servants might be interesting to GoR, but not quite willing to spend the gems to find out.

I GoR'ed a Centaur Chariot, which was amusing, but the only thing special was that the slots were ordinary and made unexpected reductions on the crew's weapons.

The '-' in the Unit DB means that the unit has no thing for that stat. If the unit items slots and magics in parentheses, that's what you get for them by GoRing. I obviously haven't checked every unit by making them commanders, though it would be easy enough to do. I'm going to need to check most of the crossbreeds for some additional stuff, and they tend to have strange slotting anyhow (which is why e.g. the Grotesque has more complete data than some other units).

It should be noted that when you enslave enemy commanders and then GoR them, they do not get their old magics back, they get new magic assignment. E.g. the very rare A4 Lore Master would get four random picks when GoRed after enslavement.

To see what looks like a GoRed unit, I use the UnitView map (available somewhere, maybe at Arryn's). On this map/scenario you have 1 of each type of unit, and see it as a leader, like a GoRed unit.

Yeah as Pdf said the unitview map is excellent .

Imo basically the only things worth to be gored are Tartarians , Wished SCs like nataraja , doom horror , AQ etc. or worthy enslaved enemy SCs , basically almost every unique be it an Ice/Arch devil , a King of earth or anything like that .

Maybe you could try a GoRed gargoyle they have iirc all slots + good protection and flying so they make probably a good LL SC without the weakness of the golem .

One might also argue Vastnesses, but it's somewhat dangerous.
+: lets you take advantage of incredible mobility
+: astral-3 lets you buff a bit (luck, at least)
-: astral-3; weak enough to be dueled, and it's not like R'lyeh is short of astral mages
-: cost; R'lyeh may not be rolling in nature gems

For earlier fun, a Living Statue has some value; it gets all slots, and has a niftily high basic protection.

....Wonders what a GoRed Juggernaut prophet would be like. It should be pretty good at spreading dominion. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

...To be even sillier, what about a GoRed Juggernaut prophet carrying the Ark?
