Someone else has this problem?
However since I've only 2 provinces, this isn't affecting a lot the game.

I have to put up a second game without closing the first in order to connect. It has been like this for the past few turns.

Took me four tries to get in, but didn't need a second game. Probably just needs a restart.

restart generally does it, but i do have a lot of luck w/ opening up a dupe of the connection, when this happens. just another click on the shortcut http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Yes, I haven't been able to get into this game either (the only game with this problem).

I haven't been able to try a duplicate of the connection because I actually have to reboot my PC most of the time after trying to connect (can't alt tab out, etc.).

Glad to here others are having problems but not glad to hear that people are getting in, I'm sure my position in the game is very compromised as I have not been able to connect in days.

ahhh, have the shortcut open in a window. that way, its easy to open up a second process, and then kill the first in task manager.

for instance, here is one of my shortcuts:
E:\games\dominions2\dom2.exe --tcpclient --ipadr 80.161.86.108 --port 2298 -m --res 1065 804 --clickvol 0
(those are double dashes, except in front of the m, which is a single dash to turn off music)

to create a shortcut just copy and paste (to the desktop) a copy of your domII shortcut, then rename to the game name, then rightclick "properties" and change "target"

the --res xxx yyy command creates it in a window of the specified dimensions (since i run my desktop at 1152 by 864, the window created is just the right size for me)

I just took another three provinces from you Last turn, so nothing to worry about!

really, whomever owns/hosts the game needs to stop and restart it ASAP.

Thanks Panther!!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I made the assumption that if I can't get in, nobody could get in!!! I might as well go AI now...Unless its worth salvaging, but highly doubtful since I haven't been in for several days

Arch, thanks for the tips. I've only used shortcuts for games not on mosehansen but will begin doing so now.

Arch, that worked. I was able to get in and set myself to AI.

Panther, you were the victor in our battle. Good luck, and I'll see you in our other game!

No need to go AI, you only missed 1 turn. These turns are moving so slow that you would had to have missed more than several days to stale more than that one turn. Wait and see how the upcoming seige of your capitol turns out before going AI.

Oh, thats not even funny. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

But too late, I already switched it to AI. I got in Last night (thanks to everyone's advice) and it was a sad state of affairs for me.

And to think, I chose this war!!!

Ah, I do so love a good steady ally.

Oh oh, I'm being abused by Cainehill. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Seriously, I could not get in for several days, and when I did (thanks to the advice here), there was nothing left of me. I did not go AI until I reviewed the situation, believe me...

I will generally be in for the long haul, but I had few provinces left, few troops, dead God, blood economy in tatters (which was my first time doing a blood economy), capital under seige, etc..

But my apologies Cainehill, this is not an action I would normally take.

And thus, for one stale turn, you simply went AI, leaving me with _another_ front I'm being attacked on. You could have done a minimal turn or two while letting your ally know you were getting ready to go AI. There's a lot of things people generally do to minimize the shafting they're giving to their ally.

And no, you're not being abused by Cainehill. But you probably will be if I'm in another MP game with you. You know - one hand shafts the other and all that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Well with a grand total of four MP games under my belt, that seems a bit strongly worded, but I'm fine with that.

Only 4 MP games? Perhaps it was a bit strong, but consider: One turn I have a stable border which I hadn't built up in, the next turn, without warning, my "ally" is invading my territories because of the retarded AI: the nation is being overrun by C'tis, yet decides to throw an army my way.

I'd strongly suggest that in future games you give some advance notice to anyone you have treaties or alliances with, since it really screws them when you go AI.

Cainehill,

Ok, I didn't consider the actions of the AI would result in you being attacked, although, yes, the AI is retarded and in retrospect it was probably not a good idea on my part to remove myself with the game without a longer notice.

I can do nothing more than apologize. I didn't realize the AI, being smacked around by C'tis, would respond in such a manner.

It's unfortunate that this all started due to a technial glitch, because I've been fairly faithful in getting my turns in across all my games.

Once again, my apologies.
