Does anyone know the formula for determining the chance and amount of blood slaves found?

Should still be :

if 1d100 less than (10 + 40 x blood level ) and 1d5000 less than population and 1d400 less (I think it want to mean more. NDR) than unrest

effect is d6(oe) + blood level

10 + (40 x bloodlevel) % is the successrate for bloodhunting .
A SDR counts +1blood level for bloodhunt only .

This means that a mictlan priest with B has 50% chance to find bloodslaves without sdr , 90% with sdr and +1 bloodslaves in average with SDR.
So for mictlan the SDR is urgent while an abysian demonbred only improves his successrate from 90% to 100% which is negligible but the SDR is still worth being forged because the 5 slaves pay off after already 5 turns .

If you want you can dl my bloodhunting guide which i wrote some months ago . I attach it .

Thanks, but are you sure a SDR is only +1 blood? According to the magic item chart I downloaded it is +2.

Yeah it was changed by 2.12 iirc .
About 95% sure .

Just hunt with 3 B2+ mages per province and 0 taxes this is generally the best way to bloodhunt http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif .
If you play mictlan you can consider use of slaves for patrolling .
