Barbarian Kings theme for Tien Chi sucks. Tien Chi=China
Barbarian Kings=Tien Chi Conquered by Barbarians(mongols) therefore BK Tien Chi= Yuan Dynasty.

Militarly the Yuan dynasty utilized gun powder(It would be out of place in Dom2 though) and siege weaponery of the song dynasty to high amount.

I think barbarian kings should have long range balistas(An long range high strength bow)/cho ku nos infantry(low strength low percision multiple attack xbow, should be used to attack enemy archers/milita/light infantry) Also the calvery of BK should have increased percision, as they where skilled from firering horse back. These improvments would help make BK a not so weak theme.

All these points have been raised before and a cho ku nu mod already exists I think.

I agree gunpowder would be out of place in Dominions. I made a mod to improve barbarian kings a while back (I think Arryn's site still has it), instead of going for siege weapons, I improved the horsemen and khans and added a mage.

Mongols were not the first nomads to conquer (at least partially) China. Barbarian Kings might represent earlier invasions, such as Hun and Toba states in northern China in 4th and 5th centuries.

"The Green Horde" begs to differ.

Barbarian Kings are inspired mainly by earlier invasions, but some mongol influences can also be found. The barbarian king named Khan and the green horde for example. Horse riding barbarians have similar flavour regardless of time of appearence. Think of them the way you feel more familiar with. Make a mod to make them even more familiar if the familarity is not to your liking (like the phalangite/agema mod for arcoscephale by PDF).

Still, I agree, the theme is quite weak.

well I wasnt to worried with the fact that they are not thematic enough as mongols, but I was merly suggesting ways for them to become more powerful.
