I have played a lot of TC S&A, and must have purchased hundreds of CMs in the Last year, and not once have I ever seen a mage with 2 randoms stacking. Ditto for Jade Amazons.
I havent played much Ryleh, but was goofing about in SP and just got a Starspawn with a dual-earth random, thus e2 w1 s3. (Have a screenshot if anyone wants, but of course you could think I had empowered.)
Anyone know the rule on this??

The probability to get 2 same randoms like AA should be 1/64 ( i am not 100% sure , better wait for Liga to reply if you want a really correct answer http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif ) .
Anyways this was just bad luck for you then with Tien chi and good luck with Ryleh probably .
Grats for over 1000 Posts btw http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

The probability to get 2 randoms same is 1/8. So every eight celestial master should have the randoms of the same path.
You can think it like this:
One random is rolled, then regardless of what it was the second random has exactle 1/8 to be of the same path.

Some of the units have one random sorcery and random element. These obviously never stack, IIRC the Jade Amazons fall in this Category.

That is, for a complete random (all 8 paths) your chance to recieve a specific dual-random is 1/64.
However, since you are aiming for ANY dual-random it is merely 1/8.
For the 4 path randoms its 1/16 for a specific dual-random and 1/4 for ANY dual-random.

I'm sure the math is correct, but I really really doubt that things work this way. Please tell me: Do so many of your CMs and your Starspawns really get both their randoms in the same path? I have the feeling there is another mechanism here in play, since I would have sworn that stacking was impossible until yesterday.

I normally often summon lots of spectres and have so far gotten a lot of e2 spectres e.g. or d3 spectres .
You could quickly test it by building e.g. 24 starspawns , then in average 3 should have 2 randoms of the same path .

The randoms are distributed evenly, as long as they are not specified as either sorcery or elemental. There is no other mechanism.

ok thank you.
Out of interest, since I am not great at math: what are the chances of, say, 250 CMs *not* getting 2 randoms in the same path?

CM of spring and autumn has one random sorcery and one random elemental magic, just like the Jade Sorceresses. So their randoms never stack. Non spring and autumn CM's have one random sorcery or elemental.
The chance of 250 units with 2 completely random picks not yielding a single double is 7/8 raised to the power of 250, appr 3*1/1000000000000000.
