Been too long since I have played Caelum. Lets see if it is as overpowered as
some would want us to think.

My first MP-game and wanna be in with the good old Pangaea. Could you give me a few technical tips about playing Dom2 in MP?
Manuk

Re-opened, this time is daily.
Manuk

to connect go to main menu on dom2
network
connect
on server put:
dom2.mosehansen.dk
on port put:
2202 (my game number)
choose a nation (first you might want to create a god for it)
then press disconnect (this will make you appear on the game)
when everybody is ready we can start it

Thanks for the help. When I choose Pangaea, will it automatically take the newest god I have made or..?

Yes, and if you have done as most do by making it for solo play with no password, then you might want to at least redo it to add that one thing

Err.. how can I actually redo it? Now that I was thinking of going from NE Pangaea to the Vanilla one, I had already the option available of playing my turn as NE Pangaea. So is this already the point of no-return? Yet it doesn't matter to me that much, since I can rumble with any Pan dominion..

As the game's creator, you have the option to make it so that the players can't start the game. I'd suggest you do this, otherwise you may have to recreate the game 10 or 12 times - it always seems _some_ player clicks on the "Start Game" button otherwise.

Ouch, I have a problem. My copy of Dom2 is currently at v2.12, and the only patches I can find will take it to v2.15
Can I play with a v2.15 client or, alternatively, does anyone know where I can get the v2.14 patch?
EDIT: S'OK, I found it

I suggest everyone update to 2.15.
Btw. How about mods?

Mose has never upgraded the server to 2.15, which is why we're at 2.14

I think it will be OK, BUT your battle replays will show action completely unrelated to what actually happened.

I suspect, that I made my pretender with Zens mod enabeled (I'm at work so I can't check right now). I don't now if it will cause bugs - but it does give me an unfair advantage.
If you wait until 22.00 CET, I'll replace my pretender.

i will cancel then
Alneyan
February 2nd, 2005, 01:23 PM
There will be a problem with having enabled the Zen mod, as your Pretender will be based on the modified point costs. If you have picked a beefed up Pretender, you could find yourself with a Pretender having used more than 500 points, triggering the cheat direction. You would then end up with an Archmage (no magic of course), not the greatest Pretender around. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
If that helps you, there is no problem with having both executables on the same directory in Windows. The 2.15 patch simply alters the executable file (at least compared to the 2.14 version), so there should be no problem with keeping the two versions at the same place. I do not know if Linux can interfere with that though.

Um, I'm not sure it will be in order. To stop people stealing other people's positions, Mose installed something to regularly restore the first pretender submitted for each nation. If nothing's changed on the server since I was here last, you'll still get the original pretender.
The only way to do this is to check "That's Not Me" on mosehansen, then get Manuk/Feyd to kick anonymous players. That will chuck you out of the game altogether. Then submit your new pretender.

Life is full of complications. Mosehansen does allow me to replace the existing pretender - but if Zapmeister is right that may not be enough. Just in case I've changed my status to anonymous, so I should now be "kickable".

It's just that without a MP, there's no way to handle someone who silently walks away from the game - something that seems to happen at least once in most games.

I guess that's a "no", then http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
When you create a game on mosehansen, there's a box (near the bottom IIRC) where you can supply a master password. This password will be accepted by the game as an alternative password for any nation, and is known only to the game master.
If any player then stops submitting orders, forcing each turn to go to the timelimit and effectively disabling quickhost, then the game master can log into the offender's nation and set it to computer control.

not this early at least. and if someone wants to just say it. it will be no problem.
question for you:
can i play my turns on 2 different computers?
Bluebird
February 7th, 2005, 12:40 PM
I normally play my turns on two different computers. All works fine, except for a little detail that you should take care about:
If you do a turn on machine A, then the turn is not available on the machine B. As a result, you cannot 'continue' the turn on the machine B, but you have to redo it completly.
Also, if you should then switch back to machine A, then our "outdated" turn will be uploaded directly on connection, overriding your changes from machine B.
So you see - it is a little bit tricky when you do the same turn on two different hosts. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
I wanted to develop a tool that would allow you to easily check the status of a multiple servers without interfering with the uploaded turns. JK of Illwinter promised my on 2004-11-25 to give me some protocol specs to do it, but I have not heard from him since. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/fear.gif

It will pause the game until you restart the server (which does NOT restart the the game from turn 1)
But a better way to give Knudsen his weekend off would be to set the time limit up to a couple of days and leave quickhost on. That way, the turn will run as soon as Knudsen gets back and puts in his orders.

Well I got somewhat depressed after the combined attack of R'lyeh and Caelum, and thus decided to forfeit. Matriculation examinations (<- took that from a dictionary) are also approaching, so right now I don't have that much time to spend on Dom2.

Mark is still here and is looking well placed to win the game. My reasoning is that the original Big 3 (Pangaea, Ulm and Jotunheim) have each taken a dive. If that pattern continues, then the slowest-starting nation will win and, by my reckoning, that would be T'ien Ch'i.

I will be away for 3 days (Sat-Mon) this weekend. I'm in the GMT+10 timezone. I should be able to play within 48 hours, but could we have a 72-hour time-limit for the weekend to be safe?
BTW, now that Ulm has been eliminated, Manuk might want to pass administration of the game to someone else. If so, I'm happy to take it on. It's a matter of emailing Mose at esbenshjemmeside@mosehansen.dk and giving him the name of the game and the person you want to tranfer it to.
