Has anyone had success using the spell "Stellar Cascades" against SCs, to tire them out so that they become sitting ducks?
Does anyone know if the spell has a MR check, or only works on certain kinds of creatures? Any info you can share would be helpful.

The only time I've heard of stellar cascades being used is vs. regular troops. And in that case its usually a handful of wizards who eventually immobilize whole stacks of troops. If you have astral mages going up against an SC (or other powerful low-number / single unit targets) you are better off casting paralyze or soul slay.

...or opposition?! What is the difference to soul slay, BTW?
Given that opposition merely affects magic creature, is it more difficult to resist than soul slay?

That is affects only magical creatures, restricting the target to them only ^^
So your mage won't waste a soul slay on the enemy xbowmen meanwhile the enemy magic summons lay waste on your ranks.

Yes, I've seen this happen actually. My Gyjga, Pretender, and a Skratti were attacked by an enemy Manticore--the AI automatically selected a pummeled the manticore with Stellar Cascades. It died shortly thereafter, so not only does it work, the ai will cast it automatically in certain situations.
It does not have a magic resistance check, but it is only armor PIERCING, not armor negating, so high Protection SC's will require more castings. BTW the pretender I was using was an Astral/Water Son of Nifel so he was also using Quickness http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif I don't remember if they Gygja also cast the spell, but it's certainly possible.. 3 Cascades/round would be very nasty. It also has a nice area of effect so you don't have to have great precision to hit and can be used by a good number of wizards from different nations because of its low level (2 Astral).
