Whoo!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif I remember the old post about this, and this is like a dream come true... I just have to wish it isn't a nightmare sent to kill me by overexhausting my body!

What does
The mapfile of the scenario is secret and only the Illwinter host has access to it.
mean? Can anyone host such a game? Or is Illwinter providing the host computer? Then how do I set up such a game? Do we need 2.14 or 2.15? (The mod specifies 2.03?!)
I've got exactly six local friends (they are probably not members of this forum) who just finished a game with me and we are quarreling for more than a week now about the new settings for the next game...(hence my thread about sages). So a pre-balanced 7 player scenario which defines all circumstances seems to be a perfect solution for us...!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
So can the seven of us play this scenario already on our own? Or is this a restricted unique game only? Do we need our own host?

Ah, for those like me who did not know about it, see Post#247556 (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showthreaded.php?Number=247556). Seems like there will be only one such game being hosted for quite a while... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif What a pity, for it sounded very, very interesting and would have perfectly fit for the seven of us... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Good play then, for I am too busy to play more than a single Dom2-game at the same time! Or will there be multiple instances of the scenario running? :beg: :begandpray: :begandprayandweep:

well its good and attracting for sure, but how can we play the scenario if the map file is not provided?
Alneyan

My guess is that the game will be set up by someone at Illwinter, and will either run on their own server (TCP/IP), or will be created by them and could run with a "normal" player as host. No .map file is needed for actual play, so the latter solution would work while allowing several such scenarios to be played at once.
How Illwinter intends to handle the scenario is another matter, of course; where did I put my crystal ball again?
Chazar

Setting up a game for someone and giving away the fatherland file will enable the reciever to replay over and over again by copying the intial files (the setup is unique anyway), thus allowing the laborious to reverse-engineer the map file. Hence I assumed that Illwinter will just host a single game with the scenario... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Injured.gif

Sounds like fun! I'd love to join.
P.S. One question... why do humans form the core of the national armies of Järnsaxa when she fights for a world with no humans? They must be out of the loop http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The spirit said: "I am the creator. I shall give them a scenario, so they recognize my splendour."
And the players gathered and marveled in wonder at the scenario files they were suddenly given.
The players rejoiced an in a chorus they said: "You are the creator, you have given us a new scenario, let us play!"
But the spirit remained silent...

Hello,
I got diseased the other day (the flu actually http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif ) and I'm just beginning to catch up with things that has happened in the last couple of days.
The games will be set up by me and I had intended to keep a server running, but if there are groups that can keep their own server going I wouldn't mind sending fatherland files as well.
I think I'll start a new thread with instructions.

Quite a bit. Yesterday I could eat solid food again. Today I have been playing Dawn of War, so I'm definitely making progress. Tomorrow I might be able to set up the first Shepherds Games http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Actually, I'm in a bit of a chock. I never get sick. Not this sick. Not since I was like 12 or so.

It looks like the mod is missing a couple of #end -lines. Namely, the changed descriptions of the Naga and the Son of Niefel.
#selectmonster 157

#selectmonster 605

Will the game run with "very rare random events" or something?
Otherwise, I wonder if you shure about the pretender designs? Take e.g. "Euryale" of Pangaea:
Order: -3 Productivity: -2 Heat: 0 Growth: 3 Fortune: 0 Magic: -1
Full turmoil but no luck, that means that you're in for a lot of random hurt. And with a starting/main province with "fresh water" you have a very good chance you get flooding fast, what will kill a good bunch of your pop early.
Kristoffer O
February 23rd, 2005, 04:11 PM
I hope they are somewhat balanced. Most of them have some drawbacks and none are what players would characterize as optimal pretenders I suspect. I hope the map, scenario and interaction makes up for this.
Common events. The chance for a flood is rather low though. It can only happen during summer (don't know why).

Kristoffer O
February 23rd, 2005, 07:57 PM
You'll notice soon enough http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Also there is a lot of scripted provinces, pop-wise, site-wise or both.

There is an error on the pretender info regarding Rudra. He doesn't have 5 death, only 4 and he has a castle instead of the citadel. Sorry for the inconvenience.

This time it got stuck in an eternal loading screen after entering my password. It could be a problem on my end, anyone else having trouble connecting?
Kristoffer O
February 24th, 2005, 05:32 PM
Caelum and C'tis has played, but I suspect that C'tis ended his turn before he actually did anything. Jotun was playing for a while, but didn't finish his turn. He wasn't interrupted as far as I can see.
All of you: if you just look through your turn, make sure you 'quit without saving' else you might get lost in the host (the quickhost think you have made your turn). Only when you have made your whloe turn use 'end turn'.

I tried re-downloading the mod and map, and it still hangs after putting in the password. I can't think of anything else to try, so I guess you should pause the auto host until you find someone else to play Pangeaea.

How long do you wait? Sometimes I have to wait quite a while. Maybe it's downloading the map or something. Have you already dl'd the map and mod and put them in the correct directories, and enabled the mod prior to trying to connect?

Crap.
Are anyone else experiencing problems?
Jotun?
Saber Cherry

I'm experiencing problems... I've only gotten as far as the "enter password" part once, then it naggoted (great word!) when my VPN disconnected. I'm on a terrible wireless network run by evil people that does not work, but I'm optimistic. I've fiddled with my antenna so much that it broke off. Well, that's beside the point, which is that the internet connection pretty much works, but I've been seeing stars for 10 minutes now with no sign of progress... but I assume something is happening somewhere=) Maybe a narwhal got snagged on the the little glass fiber that connects Scandanavia to the world? Speaking of which, narwhals would be a good new aquatic summons....

I let it sit at the loading screen for over an hour, and nothing changed. I have the map and mod downloaded (and the mod enabled), I even tried a test SP game with the map and it worked.

Despite the fact that the connection problems seem to be solved by now:
Shepherd-server is running 2.15, I've been told. I think that this should be explicitely mentioned somewhere, since at least Mosehansen's and Reverend Zombie's Servers are still running under 2.14, so I assume that quite a few players might have not updated yet as well (to avoid differences within battle-replays). And since 2.15 also claims to fix network problems...
(Sorry, but eventually I could not resist to post this little stupid warning... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/redface.gif)

I am afraid I still cannot log in. I get to the nation selection screen no problem. Then it's 50/50 if it gets to the point where I can put in the password... after that it always hangs forever or Nagot Gick Fels.
Connectivity with the server is lovely though: 150ms ping, rock solid, no packet loss whatsoever. So I am not sure what is causing the issue?

I'm seeing exactly what Soapyfrog is seeing. And I'm not sure if the server thinks I've started doing a turn, but my client certainly never got that far http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Maybe that's the port? If some router on the way does something to those packets it may cause problems. 8888 is a napster port I think. Some other port may work better...

When I came back I saw it was at the password prompt and the text "isnt that what I sa" was entered at the prompt (not by me, by remote persons unkonwn). Weird... anyway, it crashed again after that http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
I figure your server port is conflicting with some other service you are running.
