Hi everyone! This is your friendly host Jarnsaxa. The game has started, so please play your turns!

And good luck! Remember, no matter how lush and delicious my verdant fields seem, there is a Vanir hiding behind every shrubbery. They just have glamour, so you can't see them... well, that's beside the point, the real enemy is Baphomet, that #?%&$@*!!!

And please note that in-game, I'm JARNSAXA, a deity. I'm not my normal self. So please don't be offended if, for example, I brutally and suicidally attack Abyssia for no good reason. See, they're fire-worshipping hell-demons, just as bad as Baphomet's filthy humans. Also, I might take offense to anyone who excludes women from their military, or gives their female warriors inadequate armor (like Pythium). Sorry, but Goddesses are sensitive about these things http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Now, now, don't you go making generalizations of our entire sex, dear Järnsaxa! My Goddessy self, as an example, rather insists that no durned female shall ever don arms. All they are good for is laying eggs, hisseth I! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

Turn 2 is ready to be played, and it looks like Illwinter stopped doing whatever it is they do on port 8888... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif In other words, you can now log in, so take your turn! There're 22 hours left, and the Fishermen are up for grabs... =)

So what's it looking like so far? Any sign of Baphomet? I stumbled onto a well guarded swamp that didn't have any special sites in it at first glance - man was I disappointed after losing most of my army against the durned barbarian lizards accompanied by city guards, no less, the traitors... A high priest of C'tis, even; there's no end to the affrontery! Makes me hiss and spit, it does!

Marignon just took an independent prvince bordering me. And my scouts spotted a province with Troll Moose Knights.

Heh, Marignon is only one province away from my capital...

On another note, is anyone interested in trading gold for gems (particularly nature)?

Saber Cherry
March 2nd, 2005, 05:27 AM
I'm short on gold right now; been cashing in all my nature gems http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Marignon is very close to me and I'm surrounded by provinces with upwards of 150 heavy+light infantry, or 40 prot-19 heavy cavalry (and plenty of infantry), and so forth... nice rich provinces, but will I ever take them? I wonder http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Ulp! Turn 6 and I have yet to expand... did someone mention Abysia before? Nothing to see here!

Mark the Merciful

Up here in the icefields the neighbouring provinces are of little value. Still, that does mean their garrisons are a little less extreme.

Soapyfrog
March 3rd, 2005, 12:20 PM
Well the Abysian juggernaut is rolling. I am a little nervous about those Amazon/Griffen Rider provinces, but I should cut through the standard indeps like a hot knife through butter...

Saber Cherry

Yeah, let's all hope that Baphomet notices the massacre, too! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I just realized how totally cruel a combination luck scale and a fortified city is... There won't be a five turn stretch of nothing happening in a province, ever! And taking the average C'tissian, any old barbarian raid or troglodyte invasion is too much to counter without some heavy garrisoning. What fun! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Did you realize how totally cruel is the combination of lack of luck scale and turmoil? I would settle for a one turn stretch of nothing bad happening http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Jurri
March 4th, 2005, 09:42 PM
Nah, my realizations are totally selective: if it isn't happening to me right now, it doesn't happen at all. Like a goldfish. Thus, your misfortunes are nothing to me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Aand this just in out of the wild wild land of narcissistic lamentation: I just realized that I have to save all my gold for 7 consecutive turns to build a second castle. That is assuming no locusts...

alexti

How is everyone holding up vs. marignon? They just carved up my biggest army without a loss (griffon rider/blessed angel combo)...

Jurri
March 6th, 2005, 10:32 PM
They came and burned my temples http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Summer lions, crossbowmen, flagellants. That bless really is something, though!

Does anyone have a plan or something? How about everyone sends all their gems and gold to me and we the lizards will then take Baphomet down? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

What ever happened to Rudra, btw; I hope it was a good death!

Saber Cherry
March 6th, 2005, 10:47 PM
This looks rather tough! Suddenly I am glad of the very strong indies between me and Marignon. What is the bless?

Right now, my plan is to acquire archers. Hopefully they can eliminate flagellants and xbows before they can start hurting my real troops. And it may be a dream, but valks in the rear could kill Lions' magical leadership, if they target the correct enemies. For now, I'm going to avoid coreward expansion.

No, that was the enemy army (plus assorted national troops that didn't even make to the fight before my army was dead). Mine was maenads and centaurs.

Rudra died in most silly way. He was stupid enough to pick up some berserker pelt and I haven't noticed it amongst all those bad events messages http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Marignon is giving me real troubles because he seems to have tons of angels and they're scripted to attack commanders. My plan is to get to staff of storms and then to wrathful skies. That is if I can hold on to my capital for long enough.

After two quickly done turns, I find that the Big B might be coming for me. Four armies on my border; three of them look manageable, but one consists of up to 230 troops which may be more of a problem.

And a public apology to Caaelum. The one help you asked me for against B - cash - was the one I'm least able to give. Sorry. My income levels are truely pathetic, and giants get through a lot of food. Then there's the accidental damage bills. The average lifespan of door around here is around 3 weeks, and nobody's prepared to insure us anymore...

What, you've got the option to recruit them? Never seen one, no sir!

So, how's the good fight? Marignon has wasted a largish amount of dudes in a sillily strong knight province, which is always worth a laugh. Other than that, it looks bleak. Well, perhaps good ol' Soapy will take care of the army on our border, what with his winning streak in the HoF and all...

The Great God Bolthorn (all praise to His mighty name etc) has come down like a ton of snow on a couple of Baphomet's armies. But there are more of them popping up all over the place.

Also, he's building temples like mad. It'd be worth all our whiles to target them as soon as possible.

I hit const-4 in probably 2 turns, so I'll tell you when that happens... by then I should have an air-3 mage at a lab. But I sorta forget what level that stuff is at http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Being stuck at drain-2 is sort of bleak... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I have scouts all over. I happened to see the battle in between Caelum and Pangaea, with 200 vine-units, 20ish hama dryads, an earth mother and a lord of fertility all against a harpy scout. Why can't I find any cool provinces like that?

The attacking scout trick really pays of in this game, it has so far helped me a avoid:
*The province with two pretenders and hordes of vine men
*A province with 40 trolls
*A province with 6 Handmaidens of Death
*A province with ten darkvines plus 70 mandragora, vine men and manikens

How come none of my mages are in the Hall of Fame? Seems like they kill 20+ every turn http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I wish you could check kills on non HoF commanders.

So, now there's a 430-unit Marignon army adjacent to me. I bet it has loads of sea trolls, and they have too many HP / too much regeneration for Blade Wind to wipe them out when they get hit by about 1 blade every 2 turns. So I'm doing a fighting retreat: Earthpower, Blade Wind, Blade Wind, Retreat for my dwarves and Thunder Strike, Thunder Strike, Retreat for my air-3 mages (reinvigoration keeps them from passing out... I hope!). Hopefully I'll kill a couple hundred flagellants, my mages will retreat unharmed, and the remaining enemy will starve in their newly-conquered 3000-pop province before attacking again.

Here's a question... I have some Astral-2 Air-2 mages. What's best for them to cast, Solar Rays, Starfires, Lightning Bolt, something else? I don't have Orb Lightning, and it's too short-range, anyway. They're going up against a pack of 50 starving and diseased archers and slingers (should average about 2 morale).

Graeme Dice
March 24th, 2005, 02:04 AM

Saber Cherry
March 24th, 2005, 03:28 AM

Graeme Dice
March 24th, 2005, 04:23 AM
Well, lightning bolt is probably your best bet. Star fires is not very stellar. Solar rays only works against undead and demons. If you had paralyze, I'd suggest that, as it would help to take the sea trolls out of the fight. If you had a storm in the battle, then go for Summon Storm Power, followed by thunder strikes.

Hmmmm... No storm, but I'll go for lightning bolts. Thanks for the advice; I thought Solar Rays damaged everything but additionally set undead afire.

A very interesting epic battle with Marignon in Gryphon Spires. 300 maenads, 150 wolves, 35 fall bears and kithaironic lions vs. 35 sea trolls, winter wolves, summer lions and fire snakes, 80 heavy Marignon troops and a juggernaut. Marignon had some good battlefield magic casting falling frost, and a host of fire spells. In the end the swarm over came them though.

In other news, Atlantis now has an equipped water queen whacking Marignon armies and clearing the way to the throne of the world.

How is it going for Caelum? Is the siege on your capital breakable?

Saber Cherry
March 28th, 2005, 02:53 AM

Why not just do what you did in mosehansen's "Try Something New" game and not bother taking 10 or 20 turns in a row?

Once again, you couldn't be bothered to go AI, but can play other games? Thanks for yet again screwing over the people in a game (he _had_ twice as many provinces as the next highest, highest dominion, etc, on a World map, and just ... stopped ... playing ...)!

Well, let's just say that I hired the Eternal Knights after Marignon had them, thinking if all 8 were there it would be OK, and half of them are diseased http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif And Cardinal Carmont is invading me with 100 mixed troops, of which every single one is starving, and half are in advanced stages of disease. I use a mix of up to 8 instances of God's Eye and several of Dominions II. Gotta attack from multiple angles...

I am playing in one of the two private games running: The game started 2nd of march and we're in turn 24+ by now. Most players use a dom2-client on windows, no one encountered problems so far to my knowledge - and we're talking to each other about the game quite often.

I am doing my turns mostly on a linux laptop connected at various places and occasionally from a windows desktop. I did not encounter any connection problems with the shepherds game so far either. So I must say that connection with the Illwinter server works well for me...

Is Caelum still playing?

So, um, after 2 (or 3?) stales in a row on a 48h host game, with the staling player under siege and controlling no provinces, anyone else want to vote for setting Caelum to AI? By the time turns roll around, I totally forget everything that has happened.

Hey, I'm still playing, just was out of town for 3 days. Now wait how I will destroy that Marignon's army. Well, maybe... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

That's fine too if you're still here and want to hang on. I just assumed you'd given up (a pretty reasonable decision).

On a separate note, is there anyone with air-mages available who can make some flying boots for me? I have the gems, but absolutely no access to air.

I can make flying shoes.

Ah, sorry - you just suddenly disappeared without a trace, and I assumed you had resigned.

I can make shoes, I have gems too. But if Marignon decide to put a real effort in destroying me he will probably succeed.

I can't remember. A dominion kill might be a bigger worry.

I believe the game is closing up anyway... there are to be some epic battles the next few turns at the throne of the world I think.

I'm having a bit of a problem. Every time I try to log into either SOC game I get eternal sparkles. I know it is a problem on my end (though I can still connect to other servers) because I asked Truper to try connecting, and he was able to. The only reason I got my turn in was that he was nice enough to E-mail the turn file to me and upload the .2h that I sent back.

Um, I sent somebody 20 water gems, and I have no idea who. Did anybody get 20 water gems from me last turn, and wonder why? If so, you can keep them, but you have to be my slave for a week. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

So is this resolved yet?

AFAIK not - his ISP still blocks most his ports because they, as they said, detected port-scanning from his IP.

Obviously, he can only connect on port 80 (HTTP), even email seemingly doesn't work at times.

Ah, so I was close to winning after all http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif Thank you all for the game, and enjoy your respective eternities as slaves to the Lizard!

Cherry: Your army was sweet! And it was cool how my Bane Lords walked all across the field in the storm and struck down your leaders, whilst the vine ogres and wolves opened the way. The one-turn battle in the fortress was quite an anticlimax compared to that.

No fair, I didn't even get to see the battle!

Yes, congrats, Jurri http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Your mass-protected infinite wolves would have overwhelmed me eventually, but if only my silly mages hadn't wasted all of their gems against your puny 7 sets of Ghost Riders, I at least might have killed all your Bane Lords. I mean, seriously - the Ghost Riders killed 3 of my 157 troops. Yet my mages used all 47 gems on them!!! That includes such things as a level-6 Air mage with 11 reinvigoration using 2 extra gems to cast wind guide, and 1 extra gem for mistform http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif. I had scripted a few Shadow Blasts for your MR-5 Ogres, and Wind Guide would have been nice as well...

However, it was a very entertaining battle http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. Nice use of "Darkness", by the way. Casting it on the first turn would have pushed the battle even more in your favor, with my dwarves raining Blade Winds on my own army... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Thanks! The GRs were pretty uneffective indeed, at least in comparison with what they did to the armies of Atlantis, Pan and Abysia. Although draining your gems was certainly a priority for them http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The Darkness, well, I expected a more forward positioning and put a couple of the large area tangle vines first to immobilize your dudes, which could have been Vans (I had no info on what you had, you know http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif)... That was a waste, obviously, but the Vine Ogres were very expendable, as evidenced http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Too bad I missed getting life after death by a turn, it would have undoubtedly made the battle even more fun with the infinite wolves changing into infinite soulless!
