Is there a mod for disabling the "free" troops that are supposedly good random events? If not, is such a thing moddable? Thanks in advance.

Verrsion 1.0 of Zen's scale mod (http://www.techno-mage.com/~zen/) makes the events worth it, unforunately it makes pythium PD extremely good, so version 1.1 does not include the feature.

A dirty way to accomplish this would be to give the aquatic tag to the militia. This doesn't stop Pythium's PD from working but it should kill any militia that dares volunteer. Of course this also makes militia die instantly when recruited normally but that's no big loss, right?

So:
#selectmonster 30
#aquatic
#end

I think a better way would be to make them a 1 gold troop so they cost almost no upkeep.

Also, if you did this, they might actually be worth recruiting. Maybe.

My infantry rebalance mod makes them 3g each, which should help. As for aquatic, the computer would still recruit them... and then simply have no armies, rather than weak starving diseased armies http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

3 gold is probably pretty well balanced. One would actually consider buying them. Can Man recruit them for 2 gold in your mod then?

I've played with Cherry's mod with high-luck people, and believe me, you don't have anywhere near the concern with those events that you used to.

(I was playing Pangaea maenad, so...)

Nope. Unfortunately, Militia is Militia, Monster number 30, and the same one is recruited by Man and by Independants, with the same gold cost. However, I don't see a good reason for Man to get 2g militia anyway. Maybe Tien Chi, 2g militia with a sickle, straw hat, and very low stats. Finding gazillions of peasants and tossing them into armed conflicts unpaid is happening even now in Asia...

But if Im not mistaken, in the base game, Man recruits militia for 7 gold instead of 8. Or maybe I was just hallucinating.

There are 3 kinds of militia. Illwinter names them all the same, but I gave them unique names to ease the confusion. In the combat sim:

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>Militia (Base creature: Militia)

HP: 10 Str: 9
Prot: 3 Att: 8
Mrl: 10 Def: 8
Mrst: 10 Prec: 10
Enc: 4 AP: 12

Weapons: Spear
Items: Leather Cuirass

Gold: 7 Res: 3

*********************************

Militia Elite (Base creature: Militia Elite)
Official Name: Militia

HP: 10 Str: 10
Prot: 8 Att: 9
Mrl: 8 Def: 11
Mrst: 10 Prec: 10
Enc: 5 AP: 11

Weapons: Spear
Items: Leather Hauberk, Helmet, Round Shield

Gold: 8 Res: 7

*********************************

Militia Medium (Base creature: Militia)
Official Name: Militia

HP: 10 Str: 9
Prot: 9 Att: 8
Mrl: 10 Def: 10
Mrst: 10 Prec: 10
Enc: 5 AP: 11

Weapons: Spear
Items: Ring Mail Cuirass, Helmet, Round Shield

Gold: 7 Res: 9

*********************************
</pre><hr />

In the infantry mod, I named them militia, trained militia, and medium militia. The kind you get for Pythium province defense, or free militia events, or in Man's national recruitment roster, is the first one (also the worst) which costs 7 gold. You can recruit all 3 kinds in indy provinces, but the 8 gold one is possibly more common than the others.

Hmm, I guess I should just keep my mouth shut and quit showing off my n00bitude http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I just thought man could recruit them cheaper, simply because national troops are supposed to be better than indy troops. Why would you ever recruit a militia out of your capital as Man, then? Of course, in the base game, why would you ever recruit one, period? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif

Exactly http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif The only reason to recruit them in the base game is if you suddenly become an AI. Shouldn't happen if you keep below the maximum safe daily silicon intake...

I recruit them when I want cannon fodder...
