I had to reinstall dominions 2 from my original CD after formatting and installing a new OS on my machine. It is version 2.0.2 and after looking for some time I could not find the older patches for the game. Like 2.0.2 or 2.1.2. Can someone tell me how to get these. I need them for the mac os specifically.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Damn, it appears that I am going to need something even older than the 211 osx patch for version 202 of the game. If anyone has one of the older patches, could you please post me a link to it.

Thanks

FYI, I pulled those patches directly from Shrapnel's D2 OSX downloads directories. I was unable to locate 2.06 or 2.08 patches, but some player, somewhere, ought to have them.

I'm sure IW still keeps them. You may need to wait until JK at IW, or one of the Shrapnel folks can come to your aid.

It is possible to update directly from version 2.02 to the latest version with only that one patch. So you shouldn't need the old ones unless you are participating in an old mp game.

I have been unable to update directly with the 2.15 patch since day one. I get no message from the patch application. It simply doesn't do anything regardless of whether I select the dominions 2 app directly or drag and drop it onto the patch window.

I have read and write permissions to the file and even made sure it was in the same directory as the dom2config file and the key file. I am totally stumped, so that is why I was thinking that maybe I would need an older version of the patch file. I am running Macintosh OS X 10.3.8 and the game loads perfectly. I think my only course left is to uninstall it and install it again.

I think that the Mac application off the CD was locked. I had the same problems until I unlocked it.

Yes, for some reason, the OS X version can only be updated from the immediately previous version or from the version found on the CD (after fixing permissions).

Does anyone have version 2.06 and 2.08 patch files for the mac os version of dominions 2. I will need those in order to progress to the 2.15 version of the application if Ygorl is correct. Or maybe someone can give me a link to a fully updated app file for dominions 2 if these patches can't be found.

Thanks for all the info and help guys!!!

I'll be happy to host the 2.06 & 2.08 patches if anyone can locate them. Also, I'd very much like to find v2.06 of the Windows and Mac demos (the current demos, AFAIK, are 2.08).

Since you have reinstalled Dominions from the CD, you shouldn't need any old patches. All patches are supposed to work with version 2.02 as well as the previous version. Try to copy Dominions from CD, remove read-only from the files and then apply one of the patches.

For whatever reason the new patch isn't working on my computer. I have reinstalled Dominions from the CD three times, removed the read-only and attempted to apply the patch. It has failed all three times.

If anyone else who runs Dominions 2 under Macintosh OS X has any tips please let me know. Otherwise it looks like I'll be waiting for Dominions 3 before I am able to play it again.

If the latest patch doesn't work, maybe you could try the 2.14 patch first and the upgrade to 2.15.

I have tried the patch files down to version 2.11 and the same problems that came up with the 2.15 patch file come up with all of the others. Could it be some conflict with the newest Mac OS? I have version 10.3.8, which was released about a month ago. Looking at the patch files I see that they were made some time ago, so thought maybe that might be the problem.

Again any suggestions or tips are welcome!

I am using 10.3.8 and had no problem with the patch, so I doubt that's the problem.

Damn what am I doing wrong. Let me go through my sequence with you all (esp. sushiboat since you are a very similar system).

1. Install the SDL into the library folder in the HD root.
2. Copy the 2.02 Dominons 2 appication to the HD.
3. Remove read-only permissions from the Dominions 2 application.
4. Run the Dominions 2 application and it creates a dominions2 folder in the user folder of the current user.
5. Patch the Dominions 2 application with the most recent patch application.

Looking at my list it may be possible that I installed the SDL to the wrong library folder. Their is a library folder in the user directory as well. Should I install it their instead? Both?

Their are many permission settings for reading and writing for the application. Maybe I did not set enough of them for read/write access. Maybe I set to many.

The last thing was running Dominions 2 and the creation of the dominions2 folder in the current user directory. Should I have run the patch file first and then ran the Dominions 2 application?

Maybe I can get this thing fixed with your help guys!

Try applying the patch before ever running the Dom2 application. Also, the application should be in the Applications folder.

I wish that I could be of more help. I tried to patch at the end of December, had the same problems, searched in this forum for a solution, tried something, and promptly forgot the details. I am pretty sure it was something simple, not changing read/write permissions on lots of files. Good luck!

I tried that with the same result. I also searched the forum for past patching/updating problems and did not find anything new to help me. I will continue searching cause I may have missed somthing.

I decided to submit a customer support request with Shrapnel Games and see if they can help. Hell, at this point maybe they can ship me the newest version on CD so I can get back to the game.

Damn glad I submitted that customer service request because I was given incredible service and support. Mindi at Shrapnel is the best and hats off to the developer as well.

They not only fixed my problem, but went above and beyond what I asked for. So, instead of having to wait until version 3 of Dominions to play this excellent game I am in the middle of a game of Dominions 2 right now!

That's great! I was wondering what happened. I'm glad to hear that Shrapnel came through. I will definitely take a look at their other games when I get the itch.

I'm having the exact same problem right now, could you tell me what you did to fix it?

I submitted a customer service request to Shrapnel Games and they did a great job of getting back to me in a timely fashion with very effective support.
