Situation: playing caelum and I just moved my pretender and a group of researching commanders into a zone that already has the other members of my "research battery". I noticed when I did this that all of my researchers stats went from research 8 to research 11.

What is the reason for the increase? (not that I'm complaining). I've run some other tests to see if the increase was due to the cold or dominion levels of the province ( 3 and 4 respectively ), if it had to do with the presence of my commander, or what. I haven't been able to figure out the reason for the increase. I have 8 researchers in the province, and two of them have quills. What else could account for the stat change?

I bet its that you are moved from a drain scale to a magic scale.

Experience also adds to research ability.

The magic level varies from province to province, and adds +1 to all research abilities per Magic level. So, under Magic +3, all your mages have +3 to research. Likewise, Drain reduces magic research, by the same amount.

Even if you did not pick a Magic scale, some sites increase the Magic scale, creating a "pocket" of magic in your Dominion, or it may simply be an effect of Dominion spreading.
