You know my Alexandria Archives? http://koti.mbnet.fi/dyards
It's a site on The People's Mod for Starfury. It has info on the mod ships, races, tech, quadrant map etc. I even have a small forum there now.

Anyway, Alexandria Archives is pretty widely used name so after thinking for a while I decided to change it. Do you have any suggestions? The reason I ended up with Alexandria Archives in the first place was because I wanted a similar sounding place like "Arreat Summit" the information place on Diablo 2. Arreat Summit is also a place in that game (Diablo II: Expansion) where you fight the ancients.

I spent hours yesterday trying to come up with a name and got nothing as result. So any help is appreciated.

I was also thinking of SeHaven or Starfury Haven and doing a more general Starfury site which Alexandria Archives would just be a part of. Anyway, opinions, feedback and criticism is greatly appreciated.

The Amonkriean Archives? If that's not unique I don't know what is. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

P.S. Let me know when you choose a new name, I'll need to adjust the banner on MM.com's site.

I think I'm going to rename it as Starfury Haven. I'll be changing the url address pretty soon too. I'll let you know when the site transfer is finished.

And thanks for the suggestion.

Ok, I made the site move and decided on the site name also.

So the new site name is Starfury Haven and you can find it at http://koti.mbnet.fi/sfhaven

I moved Alexandria Archives there as well to http://koti.mbnet.fi/sfhaven/aarchives

The light green text on a green background is difficult to see. I'd recommend just using white text and maybe put links in yellow.

I've also added your site to my Starfury links list.

Thanks for the suggestion Captain Kwok. I changed the text to white (FFFFFF)and links to grey (A1A1A1). I think the site looks better now. Thanks again.

The white text is certainly helpful, but I still find the links hard to pick out. I'd try an almost true yellow (FFF200).

But looking good, like that space yard you're working on too.

True yellow? I'll give it a try once the server is fixed. It's been broken two times this weekend. Most annoying.

Thanks again for the feedback. It's most helpful. When I was coding the site it was already 1:20 am when I got to the stylesheet so I wouldn't be surprised if there would be white text on white background.

Exan, the start date for TPM was 6th March '04

Just thought I'd throw that at you

Edit: wow, my post count seems to be about 100 posts higher than I remember

Ok, so If I understand this right, I should change the "People's Mod" link in the Starfury fan sites to "Starfury Haven" and add a second "Alexandria Archives" banner/link to the section.

Sounds good. Would you like me to create two 'large' size banners for the sites themselves?

Thanks Deadzone. I'll edit the TPM page and change the date.

And...I would very much like to have a banner for the Starfury Haven site. I already have a cool banner made by DeadZone in the Alexandria Archives section.

This is the large versions of the small banners I made for the Malfador Fan Site links..

BTW You are in no way obligated to use these, and It is not my intent to step on anyone's toes. The current banners on your new site are more than good enough.

Thanks a bunch. They are just exellent. I use the first one in Starfury Haven but I think I keep the old Alexandria Archives banner as it has the San Francisco starbase from the mod. Both of those banners are far better than anyones I could do.

Thanks again. Most appreciated.

DEG, curious, how did you do those planets?

David E. Gervais
April 12th, 2005, 07:56 AM
Hello,

To Make the planets I use a set of PSP Plugins from www.flamingpear.com (http://www.flamingpear.com) (LunarCell, SolarCell and Glitteretto.)

The LunarCell plugin is the one for making planets. It also has the ability to save a PSD layer map which is esentially the same thing as a texturemap of the planet. So I have also used it to create planet textures for SE5.

DEG, Do you happen to have an Earth like planet texture I could use in the TPM for the Dragon Federation homeworld Dragonis?

I myself use Planetgen or Terragen to do the planet textures. With Terragen it takes forever to make a good planet texture. And you still have to add clouds with Photoshop since Terragen is meant to render images from near the surface. (great for landscape pics). And planetgen generaters planet maps but they don't look very good.

Ok, you use the same thing as me David

Though, this one (http://projectxstudios.com/deadzone/planet.jpg) and this one (http://projectxstudios.com/deadzone/planet2.jpg) were made using a different technique

Exan, What size texture do you want? 256x256? 512x512? please specify your needs.

DeadZone,.. nice planets. I also like to make high-rez planet texture maps then map them to a sphere in Bryce and then play with adding slightly larger semi-transparent spheres with various cloud/nebula type textures. There are many ways to make planets and it's always fun to see how things turn out using different techniques.

And here is the texture mapped to a sphere in Bryce..

This is closer to what the texturemap would look like in a 3d game engine.

Lunacell, BTW, has a demo- and it seems to work in the free GIMP image editor.

You'll need the pspi plugin, though.

http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/downloads.html

get that, extract it to your GIMP directory, then go to Xtrn->Photoshop Plug In settings and point it at the directory where you extracted the Lunacell demo.

Don't open the directory- just click on it once.

EDIT: though it appears you can't set the colors. Bit of a bug with GIMP I suppose.

EDIT 2: yep, gimp bug; the demo of Photoshop elements works.

Thanks a lot for the texture. I'll add it to the coming TPM 0.3.0 release.

I'm also hoping to get my Human Alliance spacedock finished to that release. Here's a screenshot from the texturing process.
http://koti.mbnet.fi/sfhaven/images/hanewshipyard3.jpg

It's still missing textures from the main part of the station.

If you edit a post, you can add a new attachment. Add the link to the old one in the post text, then check the "I want to preview my post and/or attach a file" option. Choose a new file for an attachment and finalize the edit. The "attachment" link at the top of the post will now point to the new attachment, but the old attachment will still work fine from the link you inserted into the post body. This will avoid making a ton of posts in a row for multiple attachments.

Thanks Fyron, you are as usual a fountain of knowledge. Now the trick will be for me to remember this for future postings of multiple images.
