It looks like we will have quite a few players for blitz games starting around 18:00 GMT saturday and sunday on the gamesurge #dominions IRC channel. Just to let anyone know who may be interested.

How long do these blitzes last; are there turn time limits?

No turn time limits, the games usually last between 2 and 5 hours.

I'm not sure if it will work with mac, but there is an outline of what to do in this thread (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=321072&page=2&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=all&fpart=1) .

oh, and if anyone gets messages like 'connection timed out', keep trying. The gamesurge server has been acting funny recently, but it usually connects if you let it try long enough.

According to their website, they're (gamesurge's irc network) is under a DDoS attack, first mentioned on the 25th. I've been trying to get in for 15 minutes now using different servers, but no joy.

Or try Burstfire.UK.EU.GameSurge.net- that one worked for me.

Still no joy on gamesurge, even using Burstfire, but was able to get into quakenet on the first try using whole.ny.us.quakenet.org:6668

Hey, _three_ of us have managed to get onto irc.dynamix.com:6667 !!

mIRC is software used to connect to an IRC room, gamesurge and dynamix are servers which you select once you are running the program.

EDIT: in any case the dynamix channel has been taken down and we are back to gamesurge.

OK. It´s sunday. If someone is playing i´m in. Just tell me when and how to connect because I quite didn´t understand.

It'll be at something like 1800 GMT, which is like 1400 (2 PM) EST, or 11:00 am PST / California.

To line up for the game, you'll need an IRC client ( MIRC, Pirch, irc2, Virc, etc ), and it appears that we'll be gathering on the gamesurge irc network as usual, since it seems to be having no problems today.

Games are run using Zen's Conceptual Balance mods :

Spells 1.8 (http://www.techno-mage.com/~zen/concepts18.zip)
Scales 1.2 (http://www.techno-mage.com/~zen/conceptscale12.zip)
Pretenders 2.2 (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/download.php?Number=355449)
Items 1.0 (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/download.php?Number=355471 )

(Those mods should be saved in your "Dominions2/mods" directory, whereever that is, and enabled via the Mods menu before creating your pretender.)

Then once the game is ready to start, you simply click the "Network / "Connect to a Dominions Server" options and enter the IP address and port number, which will be given to you.

Generally speaking, it's best to be prepared for a 4-5 hour gaming session.

please post here the server in case I cannot contact you

Truper

You'll need to get onto the IRC channel, as the games don't start at a set time, there may be special conditions you need to be aware of, and also because its more fun if you can chat with your opponents http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

There has been for over an hour, as I've been on channel and simply AFK, and Arralen was here before me. Note though that it's #dominions and not #dominons (though I presume that was a typo here, not on IRC).

Manuk
May 29th, 2005, 02:47 PM
no, there is not. tried in all 3 gamesurge that there are. If you want post here the server.

Hmm. There is - I know because I'm there now.

If you are using mIRC, do the following:

Click on the file menu, and select options.
Click on the edit button.
Type a description into the description field - I use Dom2
In the IRC server field, enter irc.gamesurge.net
In the port field, enter 6667
Click ok
Click the Connect to IRC server button
After you've connected, type /join #dominions

Hope this helps.

Don't know what to tell you - you might try posting the exact gamesurge server you get onto, and your exact irc nickname, while you're online. Might be able to figure out what's up then. Otherwise.... *shrug*

Is it possible some one could post th ip and port for a game right before it starts? Cause I can't use irc, because the one I have found for a mac is hopelessly confusing.

That would be possible. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge about macs than me might be able to help you connect though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Coupla problems with that... First, simply timing : when the server goes up, it's generally because people are (finally) ready to get to playing. Posting and waiting for someone to possibly connect would generally just result in the games being further delayed. Heck, enough time gets wasted waiting for people who came onto IRC for the game and then wandered away from their computer....

Also, even with everyone on IRC there's often an issue with people not using the right mods, not paying attention to house rules for that game (for instance, the occasional "immobiles only" or "Human mages only" game), turning out to not have the map that was chosen, etc.

Speaking of maps, quantum - you have Cirlani on your computers again? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Dunno - if you have an instant messenger program, maybe someone on channel could get in touch with you via that, or best of all, try to find another Mac IRC client. There's a couple listed here (http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/mac/).

I found a bunch, but this is my first time using an IRC program, so I was hopelessly confused last weekend trying to get to the dominions channel

Cainehill
June 4th, 2005, 01:21 PM
Which IRC server is being attempted this weekend? Are we avoiding gamesurge because of the problems previous weekends?

Also, for possibly newcomers : there's generally a house rule that no mercenaries are hired before turn 10, to help keep the game balanced in the early turns.

Manuk
June 4th, 2005, 05:34 PM
Post the time and I will be there. (if it´s not at the same time that the football match, Argentina-Ecuador)

Almost three hours ago - Quantum felt that people could read the original posts. Generally speaking it's 1800 GMT, which is like ... 2 pm in New York City, 1 pm in Cali Colombia, 11 am in California, etc.

Here's the ad-hoc modified Clash of Titans map which should have 4 starting positions, one in each corner...

Wish you could do time limits on turns, but to be viable the server and clients would have to cooperate, probably first giving the player a warning that time is almost out, and then automatically uploading what orders have been given at the time limit.

Otherwise you'd either get lots and lots of stale turns, or people are wasting their time giving an order, uploading it, doing another 2 unit orders, uploading, etc, simply to avoid losing their entire turn.

Cainehill
June 11th, 2005, 02:46 PM
Anyone around for blitzes today? I've been trying to get into gamesurge the last 15 minutes, but all the servers are timing out. Possibly the hackers are back at it again this weekend.

Edit : Finally just got on via Velcom, and blitzes do seem to possibly be in the making, estimated start time in half an hour.
