I wonder how effective this spell might be vs. undead.
It says in the description something like it destroys undead and blinds all soldiers.
Am I to understand that all living units are blinded? - if so is there a MR save? Is there a way to avoid this side effect?

From my (dom1) experience there is no MR save.

I remember waltzing through ermorian armies with my R'lyehian pretender casting SB.

This spell rapidly kills undead. Even bane lords will die quickly without regeneration or life drain.
MR definitely helps; vine ogres will become blind instantly, while most normal soulders will take quite a few battle rounds, and you can usually save anything important with skullcaps and amulets of antimagic.
