I just played the first scenario listed in the game for Korea, 8/50. Before anything, I want to say that this is a fine piece of work, and many houndreds of hours must have been put into it.

I noticed that Hellcats were used for air support. I don't think Hellcats were used in Korea, rather Corsairs, Phantoms, and Panthers as fighters.

Also looking in weapons selections I can find no napalm listed for aircraft to modify existing loads for AC.

Did I miss it? And why were Hellcats used in the scenario I wonder.

I don't know who is the scenario designer so I cannot help you much.

Anyway I found some info about Hellcats converted to unmanned flying bombs and maybe used in Korea.

Edited: I can see napalm with the 2 hellcats that obviusly are not intended as unmanned flying bombs http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hi Bill - welcome to WinSPMBT.

And you are right, by Korea the only ones would be some recce drones, according to a quick google search . The OOB has them available till 1951, which is way too late - maybe 1947/8 as a max I think.

Weapons 221 and 223 in the USMC database are napalm.

However the 2 napalm weapon items as you point out, are not coming up in the scenario editor as choices in the weapon section of the change unit data. Looks like I'll need to fix that one.

Cheers

Hello Andy!

Fine piece of work. You've outdone yourself! You can be proud of this one.

Thanks for the info on Napalm. Is there a list somewhere of all the inclusions of weapons. I'm sure it is enormous, another indication of the amount of work done.

I think you are right on dates for Hellcats. I know that the French used them on into the end of their war with the Vietminh. Oh, and the Bearcats. They should not be there either. I was trying to remember the other aircraft.

Some Corsairs, Skyraiders, Phantoms, or Panthers would work well here.

Great job!

All you designers better check your facts, Wild Bill is in the house! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

Thats why I stick to designing hypothetical scenarios and campaigns. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I ran into this in the old SPMBT where certain weapons were not shown in the editor's weapon selection menu. I found if I just typed the known # of the weapon in, it would load it whether the option was available on the screen or not.

That is how I loaded air-to-air sidewinders onto helicopters to shoot down enemy aircraft and drones in a scenario I was playing around with. I also loaded them on ground attack planes to take out enemy helicopters the same way.

It worked surprisingly well.

There are still some Korean SU-76 which do not show up on the map, have no photo and say "Error: no unit" (or something like this) upon hitting "i".

you can find them in 57,22 and 57,23 in the attached save

Speaking of Korea, we just had the 55th anniversary of the Korean War (June 25, 1950), sadly also known as the
"Forgotten War".
