I have found that arming Air units with SAMs (via Mobhack) allow for great anti-helo units. An example would be: F-16 with modified SAMs (Sidewinder) called in (target bombardment) around suspected Mil-24. It works well!

Sounds great, I need to try that out myself!

I used to do it in SPMBT 3.01 but haven't got around to trying it in the new one. It also works the other way around by arming NATO helicopters with sidewinders to counter attacking Warsaw Pact jets and those pesky UAV's. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

YOu can do it, however IT has a very low probailiyt of hitting, and It bumps the cost up alot, added to a unit already carrying ATGM's it gets expensive fast.
I tried creating a tornado F3. and sending it in to attack stionary HElicopters under test ocnditions, even with a EW of 50 and a fire con of 200+ it missed most of the time. and the unit costed 999.. which is the highest amount avalible.

It should have a low probability of hitting. Fixed wing pilots do not like to tangle with RW attack. Although a fixed wing is many times faster, and has weapons with much longer range, the helo is more manoeuverable, flies down on the pan where the fast mover dare not come, and can hide among the radar and IR returns from the ground.

You can however modify the unit costs as well to get it down to something more reasonable in the unit editior.

Just one question: do you have to target these ones on the very hex the helo hovers over, or does the plane target it loosely if it sees something like a target anywhere (SEAD-like)?
Anyway, if you really want to go for fighter-bombers, you have the scratch n' hurry solution of featuring them with AAM used for ground bombing... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gifhttp://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Just add a short-range ATGM with high HHEK, low pen, very low accuracy and you've got your anti-personnel SIdewinder!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/firedevil.gif

The targeting works best when you know the general location of the helo target. It seems to act SEAD-like, as well. Raising the vision seems to help as well. The sidewinder is a versatile weapon. The USMC use one for anti-radar: the SideARM, which is a AH-1W weapon!
