aircraft missions

While playing a generatated battle the other day one of the units I picked was a level bomber unit (soviet Backfires). when i called up the units and assigned its mission I shut off half of its payload hoping not to get overkill and save some munitions for later. The aircraft arrived on schedule and dropped its ordinance but after was not listed as an available asset. Are Strike elements and bombers only available for one strike. It would be nice to be able to hit several target hexes rather than dumping a full ordinance load and waisting it on a single strike. (especially if you destroy the prime target on the first hit and the rest just hits an empty hex

has anyone else run into this

I thought level bombers were only available once per battle. But, I'm no expert by any means.

level bombers fly one pass and drop all ordnance, then return to base.
