Does anyone know what the TO&E of a US armored Btn was from 1953 to 1959? Was it two tank heavy companies and one armor inf. company? Each of three platoons, with two tank and one armor inf, or two armor inf and one tank platoon? I'm just not familiar with the cross attaching of platoons during that period.

I'm starting a user campaign and want to purchase the correct formations. Also, what were typical company and Btn assets?

thanks,

AB

I've been doing some research on US TOE during the 50's. Apparently, they tried a "pentomic division" during the late 1950s. A inf. division had 5 manuever groups in between a btn. and regt. No info at all on heavy or armor divisions though. Anyone have a link to these types of formation TOE?

(found by entering "pentomic armored division" into google, one of the first few hits returned on page 1)

Looked at the site - thanks. Seems as if the US division structure was a basket case during the late 50's. So, does a reasonable 1950 armor battalion consist of;

HHC x 1
Tank Company x 2
Armored Inf. x 1
Weapons/attachemnts of;
eng. platoon, SPAA, SPMortors, Recon Platoon? Pretty mucah the same as WWII.

Question though... Would the Tank company consist of two tank and one Armored inf. platoons? Would they break it down that far? Or woudl it be totally mission dependent?

Thanks in advance.

As everything was so up in the air at the time, I'd say anything goes really.

This is a great site for TOE reference. I guess I'll have to spend some paper and ink to copy it all! Thanks for this resource site!
