I jump in here once a month to check out the status of Dom III, but everything seems to be very silent in regards to that subject.

So, is there any official word yet on a release date ?
Last I heard, "end of 2005" was the target .... well, we're almost "end of 2005".

As far as I know, it is proceeding quite well, but I quess the release date/hint wont be told before Christmas or beginning of 2006. There is still lots left to do, but as we don't know what is still to be done and not all of what has been done, we just have to wait.

But, I want it NOW, Daddy!

original release estimation was end of 2005.

because of school and unforseen events estimate late spring/early summer of 2006..... unless the developers have a deadline in their contract to be done by end of 2005.

... and if they have a contractual deadline, you can be sure that Dom3 will suffer because of it.

What intrigues me is how little J & K respond to all the bazillion comments and suggestions about Dom3. I know there's only two of them and all that, and I'm not suggesting that they should waste precious time answering repetitive questions about Dom3's progress, but it surprises me that they don't want to ask us more questions.

I was a regular on the MoO3 development fora, and the guy there (Alan someone, I forget his name) was really pretty active in soliciting views and clarifying people's suggestions and so on. Ok so MoO3 was a disaster but I suspect that was in spite of the user input rather than because of it. Brad Wardell (author of GalCiv) uses c.s.i.p.g.s to the same effect.

There are hundreds of suggestions in the Wishlist thread, and although some of them are barking, some of them are excellent. Some, I would have thought, would benefit from further discussion and clarification, before the devs decided whether to implement them or not - but if they don't comment, we don't know if that's the case.

Probably because nobody posts anything too interesting... we all just have the same old blather about what is powerful and what isn't. I bet if someone posted something about ancient mythos/religions, you might get a reply...

Funny you mention that.
I started a new game of MoO3 just yesterday after a loooooooooong lay-down.
I checked the forum for some more clarification on the "issues" from before but couldn't really find anything.

I stopped playing after a few hours.
The game is so "unclear" it's not funny.
A lot of stuff is just guesswork, I really don't like.
If only they had had a good manual which described how things work.
Even after all these years, development plans and how it really works is still a mystery to me.

Sorry for getting my own thread off topic http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I just wanted to post a note, not pertaining to the other questions that were raised (like Magnate). If it does take longer than it's original deadline it can only mean that they are attempting to put as much Illwinter goodness into Dominions 3 that they can and feel satisfied in doing so that the time is worth the effort.

All I can say is I'm very excited for Dom3 and the more time the better, to me.

Zen said it quite well. I'm looking forward to many of the features promised and/or implemented...

I'm excited there will be a Dom3 as well,
I'm just a little worried they might be spending their time with World or Warcraft or something like that instead of working on the Dom3 project
If thàt's the case then "the more time is NOT the better" IMO http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Ah well, I have a slightly different opinion http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. You can't expect IW to be working constantly on Dom3 for 2 years. Besides maybe they will get inspiration from another game's clever design.

And this in no way says that is what is happening. I don't know if IW plays WoW, though it wouldn't surprise me if they do, everyone has. I also think that IW is pretty devoted to their product and they are spending as much time as they feel appropriate to it's development while at the same time being human. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif If anything it's their personal life schedule that might be holding them up. Those teachers and their devotion to education!

Count me in. Or out, rather. One of my stepsons is really, really hoping for a subscription for Christmas though.

Don't give in Psit. You should buy him a parrot instead.

I haven't played any WoW either. I have been playing plenty of Guild Wars though, so it's close enough I guess.

Never played WoW (and probably never will).
Too time consuming and money consuming for my tastes.

OTOH I'm playing dragonshard and am quite satisfied with it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

Oh and while we're at it I'm eagerly awaiting Gal Civ II - Dreadlords.

You know, it's funny, because on lots of different Sports Bulletin Boards (any sport, really), you'll occasionally see a few fans debate the question "How much privacy do thoese players and coaches deserve?"

The fact that we seem to be having the same discussion over here on a Dom2 bulletin board suggests that those guys at IllWinter are carving out a more passionate fan base than they might even suspect...
