for some reason wish allows you to wish for defence, but I can't for the life of me tell what it does.

anyone have any clues?

Probably the same thing as power: +10 to attack and defence, +50 HP, +20 strength, and something (probably 10) to precision.

You can also wish for a huge magical vis.

According to Sunraybe's 'What is not in the spell manual' at www.freewebs.com/dominions2 (http://www.freewebs.com/dominions2), 'defense' is the same as 'power', which gives more hitpoints, strength, attack and defense to the caster.

Did you check for an increase in province defence?

The spelling used in the game is "defence," the British spelling.

Wow, I had never even noticed there was a difference. And you are right, the game uses 'defence' with c, and that's the one SunrayBe listed.

well, both spellings are "legitimate" - I just figured that may have been the problem. Otherwise, the original caster mis-entered the word.

der, im stupid, subsequent castings of wish for any of those things dont stick, I guess I got them all on the first wish for defence

If you wish for something not on the list, you get a message along the lines of "Sorry, I can't give you that". If, however, you wish for something legitimate but inappropriate (such as power or defense when you've already wished for it and become a great hulking monstrosity) you get no warning.
