Can you give me the URL for the Map? From dominions-2.org, I can only download Faerun_small.map and Faerun_large.map ... which one is Faerun.map ?

I do not know whcih version is used by mosehansen, just unrar this files in the mapsfolder and it works fine.

Juhu, nice to have you onboard!

If memory serves, the Mosehansen Faerun is the oldest version. Thus, you'll need a faerun.tga for the map graphics; you can rename the superior faerun_large.tga and it works fine, I seem to recall. (Although a few neighbor connections mightn't be right, but that's what the map filter is for...)

As for the map file, you'll only need a simulacrum; the map file on the client isn't used, I think, so if it asks for one just rename some file to faerun.map and it should work. If you want to look and see what provinces have what preplaced things, can't help there. Most are probably the same as in the newer version, but there are a lot of preplaced forts which really make the map unfun, in my opinion. Edi probably has the older versions archived (seeing how he's apparently got a thing for keeping things in good order, which is great! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif), so if you really need 'em, PM him!

Alneyan
October 2nd, 2005, 10:38 AM
The client won't check for any .map file whatsoever, so just put the .tga file in and it will be fine. The creator of the game does need the .map file, of course.

Jurri
October 2nd, 2005, 05:58 PM
I stand corrected! (Was thinking of mods or something... Or do you need the right file for those?)

Anyway, if you're shooting for ten players, won't it unbalance things if you've got all of Ulm, Ermor and Pan in? I mean, they all start practically next to each other. (And Man is rather close to Ermor, too.) So it's possible that either Marignon or Jotunheim or any of the unclaimed Eastern continent nations start without any close neighbors at all. Dunno how such unbalancedness in the indy distribution could be corrected, except by deciding the nations that won't be in beforehand, though, and that obviously isn't feasible...

Well, good luck to all in any case!

I really would like to test the Faerun.map file. Isn't there are anybody out there who has it and who is willing to attach it to his/her/its post? Otherwise I will page Edi to see if I can get it from him.

GriffinOfBuerrig
October 2nd, 2005, 09:39 PM
You can download it from the adress above, it is called in menue " a map with 221 provinces"(for some reason)

Bluebird
October 3rd, 2005, 03:34 PM
*sigh* when I read the map file, I can see the following:

Code:

#dom2title A map with 221 provinces.
#imagefile cradle.tga
#domversion 175
#description "CRADLE OF DOMINION
...

and cradle.tga look helluva lot different from the faerun maps in faerun_small and faerun_large ...

See http://www.fams.de/maps.png

Sorry - but I am a bit confused. Which map are we playing now.

Mhm, i have problems with the map, he says that he do not find the faerun.map

Have anyone an idea what is the right file?

O

Alneyan
October 7th, 2005, 02:13 PM
Faerun.map, and not .tga? And when does the game say that?

Still, I guess it simply means you do not have the appropriate Faerun.map in your maps directory. Either the .map and the .tga do not match (in which case, you should rename something, if you have a Faerun_small.tga and a Faerun.map, or the other way around), or you didn't download any .map file to go with Faerun.

This will be a bit more annoying, of course, as you may need to create your own .map file. I have four different .map files for the small Faerun, and Mosehansen Faerun may use another one, and... Anyway, what sort of .map did you want? No special provinces? The mundane Faerun, with all its special provinces? Something else altogether?

The .map files I have myself for Faerun are those ones: http://www.dominions-2.org/downloads/Faerun_small_mapfiles.rar

Note that those files call for a Faerun_small.tga file, and not Faerun.tga, so some renaming may be needed.

Jurri
October 7th, 2005, 02:25 PM
I think you should restart the thing!

Based on your description, you're assuming you're playing on a map called Cradle of Dominion (a map with 221 provinces), yet the server is primed for a game on a map called Faerun (a map with over 400 provinces and preset starting sites).

If you intend to play on Faerun: Mose still uses the first version of the Faerun map, as I tried to explain earlier; you'd be better off using the Faerun_large.tga, renamed into Faerun.tga than the small one, since the small one has different borders I think. (You know, I never looked at the smaller one http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif)

Hey, would this validate what I was saying earlier about that simulacrum .map-file? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Anyway I think, that Ermor haven't played for like last 3 turns. Not that he had to in current state (army is growing anyway), but if he is out, shouldn't we get replacement?

Hello from sunny Florida. Sorry about the stale turns, I didn't expect the hurricane to hit so hard. I'm currently running on generator power and I'm not sure if I will be able to do a turn every 24 hours, can we slow the game down for a while?

GriffinOfBuerrig
October 29th, 2005, 05:47 AM
Okidoki, what time sccedule would bei fine to you? I think i will turn it to 96 h now(for the beginning)

Bluebird
October 29th, 2005, 07:52 AM
Oha - thats the reason. You think a tiny hurricane is a valid excuse for stale turns? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Catquiet
October 29th, 2005, 08:49 PM
I lost several trees and one of my rain gutters, other than that the house is fine. 96 hours sounds good, hopefully I'll be able to play once a day. It depends on whether or not I can find gasoline for the generator.

Well, lets face it - I have greater army, than Ermor during its peak, and only small fraction of this is soulless/militia/etc. Heck, I have more troops, than the rest combined. Trust me, there will be no supply problems. With my gems income, there can't be even money problem, and I can use all kinds of it. With Ermor still active nobody can left "Death Front", so I don't think anyone can grab enough VP by surprise. Seriously I see no point in continuing this game. What do You all say?

Tyrant
December 13th, 2005, 08:20 PM
If y'all want to surrender I will accept http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif, but seems to me that we are just now entering the midgame. It's true that only you could even possibly pull off a surprise strike, so it's likely to be a long game, but so what? (very sneaky bypassing the VP provences, btw)

Honestly, i have very little idea what you and Man have going, but amy size it not nessicarily very relevent. Computer controlled Ermor does require some effort to destroy, but their defeat is inevitable and I do not think that they will be around much longer (despite R'yleh getting in my way).

The way i see it, now's the time for you to take your shot. You are mighty, but can you do it? Not sure. Don't know about Man, but R'yleh is always dangerous and i can defend myself.

If you do not want to play anymore I suppose we would have to find a replacement or call it, but I'd like to play it out.

What do Cat and Bird think?

What the heck happened in Graymund (184)? Those Golems exploded because of Tangle Vines?

Catquiet
January 1st, 2006, 09:41 PM
I think they hit the limit to how long a battle can run. Golems can't retreat so they just disintegrate like mindless undead without leadership.

Windwalker
January 2nd, 2006, 02:08 PM
In that case they should die in the same turn, and for sure Druid wasn't quickened. So first one, then another, in another turn, and this second didn't move. Looks like they thought, that they can't hurt Druid. Very strange.

Catquiet
January 2nd, 2006, 11:35 PM
Mindless units don't all dissolve at once when they lose leadership. Make a game as R'lyeh, recruit a bunch of mindless Lobo Guards, put the leader in back and have him retreat. Watch what happens to the guards.

Windwalker

Well, I was expecting more hostile magic on map during war. Not only Cyclops, and Cyclops.
The best number was like 3. For 2 players? In the end Ermor appeared to be my best ally http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

And I have no idea why this second Golem fell from simple Imps.
Thanks Everyone for Game! I think You all should take better care of independent provinces.
