Can somebody give me the numbers on Fear and Lesser Fear.

How exactly does it work in-game ?

I did a search here but there were no conclusive answers in that thread.
Maybe more is known about the subject by now ?

Please explain.
Thanks.

I can't recall for certain, but I do not believe the precise mechanics are known. Essentially what happens is that a unit with fear projects a cone-shaped aura of fear out from its location. I believe that enemy units within the aura must make an extra morale check, and I'd guess that the larger the fear number, the more likely enemy troops are to fail the check. Also, the higher the fear number, the larger the aura is.

I also recall it is really every 5 levels of fear that is important.

Is it really cone shaped, trup? I always thought that it was radial, like all the other auras in the game (cold, heat, etc).

-4 gives a +1 bonus to the check, 0 is normal, 5 gives -1, and every 5 levels add an extra -1 penalty.

Other than that, I think the area affected is a circle, with X being its radius (where X is equal to Fear value +5).

Liga's Manual Addendu has everything currently known about this effect, and that's what I am quoting from memory.

This is the best I was able to find, after a *lot* of time spent with the search engine:

The area is area like in spells. 15 area affects 15 squares and potentionally 45 size 2 units. It spreads somewhat erratically from the center so the area might 'lean' in one direction, once again much like with the spells. The area can as HJ suggested 'hit' empty squares.

I nonetheless still have the impression that a fear or standards aura tends to radiate forward from the commander, but I admit I can't justify that impression.

I would think that the aura would be more or less centered around the commander, but the leaning comment is accurate in the context that such an aura might be a little off center, i.e. the projecting unit might not be in the exact middle of it. Especially with larger auras, like the fear aura of a Blood Foutain or a Prince of Death, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the edges of the area were a little ragged.

So what defines the size of the aura? Or is it fixed?

the size is probably based on how much fear the creature causes

The pval of the Fear, ie. the X in Fear(X), defines the size as well as the save modifier.

Size=X+5

Save modifier=INT(-X/5) ie. negative X gives +1 bonus to save, positive X >=5 gives a penalty to save.

It has no effect on friendly troops. Also there is no way to tell if units are targeted (that I can remember) so you really have no way of knowing if it is cone shaped.
