Has anyone heard about Gandalf recently? It has been quite a while since he last posted here, and all his sites I know of have been down for the past two weeks or so.

He's about. I'm not sure what's up with his sites though.

Last I heard from him he said something about a "fight with a Balrog" so...

Try searching Google Groups with his name. He mentioned waiting for Dominions III and Space Empire V rather than next Civ,HoMM,AoE or Polyneux game. You can also find some other interesting stuff. Did you know that Gandalf is a White-hat? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

ALSO, on the VGAPlanets newgroup:

Umm... you won't get that until it goes Gold. Anything Tim sent you now would BE the beta. He won't be sending CDs out until the game is "complete". Download the beta and then enter your Reg number for the most up to date code.

I understand all that. But Im not really interested in the beta. Im already beta testing way too many games.

When its abit farther along I might jump the gun. Until then I will hang on to this many years old letter saying that Ive bought the game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

You know, I think he mentioned Dominions III being in beta before... So maybe he is just 'busy' with something else. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Just dropped by the forum to see if Dom3 is on the horizon yet. It would appear not. See you in another 12 months! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif

So the first estimate was way too optimistic it seems.

Or did something happen? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

EDIT: I can wait though. Lately I have been taking back childhood I never had by *gasp* getting my hands on a Playstation and playing terribly ungrognardish games with grey haired young men with oversized swords and blue armored humanoid robots. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Im still around altho more in other forums that this one lately.

Yes my favorite toy was wrecked by a really sloppy little script kiddie. The white-hat hacker site after 5 years drew a concerted effort by black-hats which cracked a hole in the box. WHich wouldnt have been a big deal (usually a "we been here" note then things get patched up) But the kid that slipped in after them couldnt figure out how to use the scripts he downloaded to hide his activities in the logs so he deleted all the directories with logs and configs. Real subtle. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Everything people had on there is still there (except maybe old queued mail Im afraid). The server still limps along so I can forward emails and files if someone needs them. I spent a couple of weeks working thru the stages of grief for my favorite toy. Now due to help from various people it looks like in a month or so I will be back up with a new expensive router/switch and a bigger/better machine. I have registered Dom3minions.com and will be ready to shift to it as soon as we start having some info on maps and file structures that the game might support player creation of.

NO Im not in Dom3 beta but I am having fun with a number of other betas (of course being betas means I cant discuss them due to NDA agreements). Thanks for asking about me though.

OH yeah, searching on "Gandalf Parker" in google or groups.google can be very interesting (and huge). We are lucky that their database only goes back a couple of decades.

the White-Hat refers to being part of an internet security group where hackers are defined as black-hat, grey-hat, and white-hat. Its purely a coincidence that Im a grey-hat who converted to white.
