Does anyone know what the limitations of the game engine are with regard to processing battles? Because in a recent game, a battle with about 5k-6k units failed to process (never finished). This limitation been noted in at least one other post, and doesn't seem to be an issue with time or processing power.
Any ideas?

Exactly what does "failed to process" mean? Does that mean you were watching the battle replay and it abruptly ended? If so maybe you were running up into the 50 round boundary?

I think he means the generation of a new turn.
However, if it was the battle, the limit would be 100 turns IIRC. After 50 turns, attacker autorouts; some time after that, defender autorouts (75 turns?); and if even more time passes without either side winning or routing, everyone dies.

Yes, the new turn failed to generate. Could be to do with a limitation on status effects - 6000+ troops could easily go over 32k effects etc.

Wow I'm impressed by such astonishing numbers ...
In all my (40+) pbem games I never saw much than 2-300 units per side in battle, maybe 4-500 for Ermor a couple times.
Is that in SP or MP games ?

MP game that one was. If Ermor (Ashen Empire) gets quite a few territories then they can mass armies of that size pretty easily.

in my sp games ive easily had thousands of troops per armies but since they are undead you need a ton of commanders with them

If there is really such a hard limit cap it severely limits playability of large maps such as Faerun or World map (at least when one of the spawning nations is playing).
I hope the developers would be able to comment if such a limit exists and give the exact number. If it's too small for large maps I hope they'd be able to enlarge it (at least for Dom-III).

ofcourse limited supplies in provinces are too low and most of commanders must have special supply bonus items
I think average supplies should be higher (at least 300 on one province) in next version Dominions

I definitely hope the developers increase the maximum limit of units for a battle and a map. The developers made a large increase going from DOM_1 to DOM_2... lets hope they do this magic again.
