View Full Version : WinSPMBTver2.51-- Gun tube orientation

With the release of V3 the game reverts back to the "Turrets point towards enemy lines while moving" feature that was included in the 2.51 "patch" so applying the 2.51 patch is no longer required and the file has been removed to avoid confusion

Don

Attached is a WinSPMBT EXE that will point the Human players turrets towards ememy lines while moving. This reverts the game back to what it did for the human player before ver2.5.

This is a normal game installer so it's looking to install this into the default directories and folders we normally use so if you've put your game someplace else you'll need to enter the correct location into the installer. The game, if patched correctly, will report as being ver2.51 at the bottom of the main screen

Don and Andy,
Thanks for the quick fix. And thank you for all of the great work making Steel Panthers all we've wanted it to be and more. It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since the original.

What else does the patch do? I have been moding my game a little and each time I put in a new patch I have to copy everything I moded (that is quite a bit.

Still a very good responce time. Thanks.

No...it's just a WinSPMBT.EXE. No other files

Does this feature have any other than aesthetic meaning? Hard job to check that all frends have the exactly the same versionnumber. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rant.gif

And where is the page one could load the 2.51?

the version number is shown on the front page of the programme in the style "WinSPMBT v2.53CD" at the bottom of the page.

This version does what is said in the thread itself - for the human player, the turret does not snap to the direction of travel when you move. Your turet will remain pointing in the direction it last was oriented.

Andy

The "page" for 2.51 is the thread you just replied to.

See the link in the title to the attachment. Should say "1 attachment XXX downloads" or similar.

Version 2.53?, is there a version 2.53?, wasn´t the 2.51 version the last one yet? or did I miss something here?

You haven't got it as it is not yet released - And will probably be 2.6 whenever it is time to get back to MBT coding after WinSPWW2 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I have a pbem game in progress using 2.5---if I install this patch, will it ruin my game?

It did for an opponent of mine (and me) a while ago when he tried to continue our 2.5 game with the 2.51 patch installed.

Of course - because the EXE checksum will differ.

Finish (or give up) any PBEM currently in progress before making any game changes.

I just noticed that the game information page for winSPMBT doesn't mention the 2.51 patch. The last patch mentioned is 2.5. Shouldn't this be updated (it misled a friend who just downloaded the game)?

Don: I understand there´s no problem in upgrading from 2.51 to 3.0 (any unexpected bug/misadjustment?), do you by any chance recommend to install from start skipping 2.51? Obviously I have no idea about the spaghetti-maze kind of thing this game´s code is http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

Robert

There is NO problem upgrading from 2.51 - 3.0 and there is NO problem upgrading from 2.50 - 3.0. The only thing in 2.51 was a game executable that is overwritten by the new on in V3.

However, I cannot stress enough that skipping 2.51 is the ONLY patch you can skip. Do not skip the others when upgrading your game

Also, may people may start with the DL version then upgrade to the CD. If you do you must re-patch you're new CD version. DO not, under any circumstances simply install the CD version over top of the DL version you already have without patching it again and expect it to work 100%. It will not. There have been dozens, maybe hundreds of files that are common to both games that have been changed since the first version was released.

NOTE: we do not RECOMMEND that it's "OK" to install the CD version over the DL version though I suspect some have already done that. What we do recommend if you are upgrading to the CD version is to uninstall the old DL version first then re-install the CD version and then patch up. *IF* you have scenarios or save games you do not want to lose simple copy them to a safe place and then copy them into the new CD version after it's been patched up
