Have anybody figured out the use of these items: Toy Robot, Lookout Frogs? Crystal Fish makes Tchorak go friendly with you. Any other interesting combinations? Did anybody figure out what triggers "warp" option?

Actually, if you read the descriptions very carefully, you might get some hints about a possible usage ... . Or simply play some more http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Well I did read the manual in detail. These are the issues I still did not figure out from experience so far. Please help me, since I did play share amount of games by now. My style of play is already established and if I did not discover it so far I will not by myself at all. Private message will be appreciated also. Thanks.

What do you mean by the "warp" option?
Aside from the Ion Flux Warp Drive, I don't believe that word even appears in the game.

The Toy Robot and the Lookout Frogs are extremely cool. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif Don't leave home without them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

He may mean the "Fold" option. You get that one by having a Zorg Navigator's ship along. (NOT the fighter- the bigger ship).

Thank You Phoenix-D for clarification about "Fold" option!
James Sterrett thanks for the hint also. I will try to bring those items home.

Seriously, read the descriptions!! For a start you're missing out on a lot of enjoyment by ignoring them, and secondly you end up not knowing what things do, when in fact it's generally spelled out for you.
The option is labelled "fold" and the Zorg first-encounter text talks about Helmsmen folding space. If you just read the text, you'll not be sitting there wondering about this kind of stuff.

Some of the descriptions are pretty obscure. Theres a handfull of sci-fi and wierd-fiction references that many people just wont get.
I find myself wondering how things interact, and sometimes wonder if im barking up the wrong tree.
for instance, do items have any impact on events? If i have a special item or creature with me when I see space whales or discover R'yleth, will something else happen?
If not (and events are just static sources of exploration points), I dont really want to waste my time trying to travel from system to system with different combinations of things, hoping to hit the right event at the right time.
otherwise, i dont really mind experimenting. of course, im just experimenting with the demo, because my download woes are continueing.

Items can have an impact on certain events..I know of the Lookout Frogs, Toy Robot, and Crystal Fish for three that do.

SPOILER
------------
The Toy Robot and Lookout Frogs both protect your ship against the thief/saboteur Esmeralda.
The Torc of Babulon lets you see cloaked ships (hint: Urluqai).
The Mantle of Babulon makes you friend with the Zorg, Muktian and Urluqai.
The Crystal Fish makes you friend with the Tchorak.
Nothing makes you friend with the Tan Ru. A Particle Vortex Cannon makes you friend with their charred remains.
The Chromium Gong, when used (once!) in battle, kills the biggest (or meanest) enemy ship.
The Timeless Bauble lets you "order" any item you want. But you have to type the item's name correctly, and the item mustn't be found in the current game already (so the bigger the map, the bigger the chances you'll be disappointed).
The Aethric Mirror lets you swap your position with an enemy fleet. Useful for instant travel and access to guarded systems. You can also use a funny trick with the Vacuum Collapser, the Aethric Mirror and the Yellow Kawanji if you're totally insane.
The Melodium Conograph is best left unused. lol.

ooo, i shouldnt have read that, but i did. I had actually figured most of those things out, and im sort of sad to see that there are not more.
I know theres some sort of Prometheus quest, because I found an item that activated the quest once. I died before I could get anywhere on it (didnt have the item that allowed entry into black holes, and had no idea where or what Damocles was... aside from a greek goat farmer who was frinds of King Minos, and had a chat regarding a sword)
I took a look at one of the event files and one of the item files, to get an idea of the structure. I think it would be pretty easy to mod in some more "interactive" type events that trigger differently based on whats in your cargo hold.
for more challenging games, theres a few items that should probably be left out. Vortex Cannon, Temporal Shields, Cloak of Bab, Gong, and Mirror all come to mind.

In fact, there are only two "major quests" in WW:
1. Primordius
2. The Yellow Kawangi
I'd be happy to create a few mods and expand the universe, though...

yeah, i killed the Yellow Kawangi once, when i noticed the effects of what it was doing. never got a quest anouncing its presence.
and I finally got a map with the Primordius quest, and played it through. I wanted to take that nice piece of tech and go conquer the galaxy with it, but i was out of time. I had accidentially clicked on a system on the far side of the map, early in the game. I lost about 2/3s of my time to a nebula i had to fly through, and still had 2/3s unexplorerd.
Fortuneatly, I found the helmsman and was able to fold until I found the mirror. I then was able to use the mirror for instant travel to anywhere that I couldnt fold to. I visited every system (but missed encountering 90% of the fleets) and killed primordious, and won the game with 37 days to spare. 47K on a mostly non-violent game, that started with a major screwup.
as far as mods go, i'd be willing to help out. see your other thread.
