I have been toying with the idea of doing a WinSPMBT campaign based on a hypothetical Nuclear World War (ala the Twilight 2000 game) with 3-6 players playing against the AI. I would create scenario's (a storyline) set in the Twilight 2000 world and each player would be in command of his alter-ego set in this environment. Each player controls a single man unit, I set the unit's stats, you choose your nationality (and weapons package from a a predefined list). New players can join in or drop out at any time at the start of a new scenario in the story.

How it would work?
Player 1 is the Leader. He starts the scenario moving his single man unit. He tyhen saves the scenario and fowards it to player 2 who plays his unit actions. He thensaves and frwards the game to the next player and so on. The last Human player ends his move then sends the file back to the 1st player who ends the turn for the human team. He then lets the game cycle through the AI players turn. Before he moves his unit for the next turn he sends me a copy of the game file. Player 1 then starts the next Human player turn all over again and play continues.

What would be required of the players?
* At least 1 turn every week or so, faster or slower as the players can pass the file around, just keep it rolling. You are only moving 1, single man unit on the map so it shouldn't take that long.
* Post their personal AAR/comments (with optional screenshots) in a running thread as the story evolves (basically the players are writing the story for visitors and members of the site to follow the action and get some light entertainment).

Questions, comments?

I'm not familiar with T-2000, but sounds interesting. I'd be game.

Here is some more information;

Basically it would be where each player would have his own 1 man unit, 3-4 per side ( I would create them in the Editor along with the mission and scenario). These 3-4 would play against the AI each playing his own man/unit each turn. Sort of a multiplayer, pass the file around to all players to play their unit. It would be like a 3 vs 1 where the 1 is the AI or a dedicated BAD guy to control those forces.

This unit would be edited so he has a personal weapon, some grenades and ammunition for the scenario. Each player would be set up like this, playing a soldier from whatever nationality they preferred.

Here is a sample using myself.

http://www.combat-campaigns.com/downloads/SGT_Torrance.jpg

You will see I have my trusty M16 (60 rounds of ammo) and a 40mm M203 Grenade Launcher (with 4 HE and 2 AP rounds). I have no grenades or other "Support Weapons".

I do have 3 Smoke Grenades but I have edited it so I do not have a radio couldn't carry it with all the other stuff. I also have a pair of Night Vision Goggles (Vision 20).

I would play this unit in the scenario/campaign and all the other players would have themselves to command. We would play against the AI or a single "evil enemy commander".

You essentially create you own character (1 man unit).

* You pick a nationality and unit type infantryman, scout, sniper, machinegunner, engineer, etc.
* You select your personal weapon (rifle) from that nation's OOB. Some may be able to select a LMG BUT must carry their own ammo.
* You select a sidearm (pistol) from that nation's OOB.
* You select Support Weapons (limited to some grenades, molotov coctails or a light AT weapon). Enginners can start with a flamethrower, or a satchel charge, etc.

Whatever you pick would have to be realistically portable by a single person in combat conditions!

In essence I will create a story for the players to play with their units. I may allow them to start with a vehicle or some non-player characters controlled by a selected player to fit the story. You may find a radio, special weaposn to carry int the next scenario, etc. Kind of an interactive campaign where we will make things up as we go along. The story will evolve based on my desires and player input (you guys come up with the mission ideas, I'll create scenarios for you to play it).

Each will be played against the AI or another, single enemy commander.

I remember the Twilight 2000 rpg. Wow, that goes back
a long time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. I'd be interested in playing.

Thanks, Keith.

To get you started what you need to do is go into the Editor and select a base unit Nationality OOB. Then go in and select a unit type (Rifle, Ranger, Engineer Squad, etc. Also you need to slect a personal weapon out of that OOB,preferably the one that comes with that particular unit (i.e. US Rifle Squad = M16, etc).

Post your selections here and I'll "generate" your character.

Just an FYI. I have a person lined up to run the "enemy" forces as well as a reserve for him. What we need now is just players.

So you all have an idea what I want this to be, think of . . . "WinSPMBT - the Role-playing Game". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Sounds fun....I can remember Twilight 2000 real well. If you need any reference materials from the game let me know Mike.. I still have a ton of them stored in the basement family room.

OK, for those interesting in seeing more we have started a test game with 2 player characters and myself as the AI (Game Master). You can follow the action (including screenshots and narratives) over at the SP Zone Forums of StrategyZone Online ----> WinSPMBT-RPG (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36531).

Actually its on hold. We did play through a test scenario. In order for me to do it right it will require special OOB's for the player characters. This is/will be very time intensive which I don't have much of right now. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Maybe I could do it. I have plenty of free time. What is it that you're trying to do?

It would require a custom built OOB for the player characters. Unfortunately this can only be done after characters are created and I am writing the rules/guidleines for this. Its the creation of the actual ruleset that is needed.

Do you mean you're trying to figure out how the whole thing is going to work? The test game looked pretty interesting. I think if you keep it simple it'll work (allow only 2-3 weapons or smoke rounds per person or something, with a maximum real-life weight of around 40 pounds).

Exactly BUT to be able to edit/customize each character the way I want to I need to create a separate OOB. Some things just cannot be changed in the scenario editor such as the vision rating.

I would also like to have custom formations (to include a character's henchmen or personal vehicle).

Actually a long time ago I tried to convert SPWW2 to a campaign like the Ambush! board game series where you would control eight single man units against the AI. Has anyone else tried it?

I am interested in this. It sounds like fun. If and when you get things sorted out let me know. It is nice to see someone expand the basic concept of these type games.

Just seeing if this thread still draws views.

Was thinking about a friendly little coop team game vs the AI (or maybe a live OPFOR opponent if I get a volunteer to play that part). It would not be a 1 man per unit game like this thread originally intended but a small team per player format. Think The Rat Patrol (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060018/) but for WinSPMBT. Each player will command a light recce vehicle and the crew/passenger. Probably about a 4-6 man scout size unit. Each turn the scenario files will pass from player to player while they use their unit with the team commander going last to "End" the turn. More details to follow, probably in its own thread.

Gonna start a new thread, no need confusing the old format with this newer one.
