This is a map I wipped up this morning, with 39 provinces, primarily for duels and small games - nearly half the provinces are

I will post a no specials version, once I figure some things out, and when I have it finished, I'll post the version with specials.

edit: here is the map, full version and no specials version: LINK (http://www.importantlife.net/siltrock/Siltrock.zip)

anyway, here is what it will look like:

Okay, I can barely do some sprite editing, and you can do this out just like that... Well, at least you're using it for making new good-looking maps for us envious ones. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Wow this is easily the most beautiful dominion map http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.
Imho it even beats Sharivar.

And 39 provinces is perfect. Finally we have something new for the weekend blitzes and then something such beautiful. Marvelous http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Wish
December 18th, 2005, 10:56 PM
actually it boiled down to 38. I accidentally had two white pixels next to eachother.

shovah
December 18th, 2005, 11:54 PM
19 provinces each would make an intense blitz (imagine if starting provinces was set to a high number :p

Wish
December 19th, 2005, 12:06 AM
half of them are underwater too, to allow for atlantis and rlyeh -

heres a funny occurance though, I got on a dry run, I have a province set to sea, also no start (i believe) and it lets me recruit normal infantry types and a scout... who all drown once recruited. whats causing this?

Ok I'm having a problem with #feature and #commander lines not taking. can I email the map to someone who knows better what they are doing and tell me what I am doing wrong?

Turin
December 19th, 2005, 02:59 PM
just post it. A problem with #feature may be that it gets overwritten by the sites which the game adds randomly. So if you are playing with high magic sites setting(50+), some features might not show up.

Wish
December 19th, 2005, 03:06 PM
well the problem is that they are showing up as like nifelheim and other national sites instead of what I am setting them as. Also commanders show up as the normal commanders instead of the ones I set, although their magic changes as I set it, but they aren't getting the items I give either.

here it is: LINK (http://www.importantlife.net/siltrock/Siltrock.map)

hmm I noticed that the "" symbols are different for the landnames and for the commander names and sites. Maybe the program needs those standardized "" symbols? Try editing your mapfile with the normal windows editor and see if that helps.

Although Iīm no expert on map commands, I couldnīt find anything wrong with yours apart from that oddity.

Wow, that's pretty. I like the style. Will there be border lines added later? Hopefully that won't wreck the aesthetic. Anyway, I found a little bug:

#landname 4 "Abode of the Ancients"

#terrain 4 1553
#setland 4
#nostart 4
#poptype 40
#feature ?The Crystal Citadel?
#feature ?Ancient Temple?
#feature ?Abandoned Labratory?

Laboratory is misspelled; it probably won't work like that.

I may be inspired now; mapmaking looks like fun.

The way the provinces are placed seems, for the most part, defined by various changes in the scenery. I Kind of don't want to add border lines. I guess it should be played with neighbors on.

Wish
December 19th, 2005, 05:25 PM
fixed some neighbour mistakes, the labratory thing, and added the full version of the map to the zip on the first page. Seems to be working. Okay so far.

Does it need borders guys?

If you need borders here is a tga with borders.

LINK (http://www.importantlife.net/siltrock/Siltrock-borders.tga)

just download it and rename it Siltrock.tga (it is named Siltrock-borders.tga)

Personally I prefer it without borders.

Morkilus

It's small enough that you don't really need to have the borders, I found out. You just know where everthing connects after a bit. I'm in the middle of a battle vs 3 easy AI's and I quickly overwhelmed Caelum. I like the two mountain passes on either side, and the dragon (quite a wall) in the middle. Having a tiny map sure changes the game!

I am sooooooo happy that there are more small maps these days for 1x1 play.

For some reason I can't get it to work. No map named "Siltrock" appears in the list, even though I've put Siltrock.map into the maps/ directory, and copied Siltrock-borders.tga into maps/Siltrock.tga.

Any other ideas?

UPDATE: Oh, it is because the "maps" directory which is a sibling of the "mods" directory isn't the right place to put maps, is that right? Instead you should put them in the "maps" directory which lives in the app somewhere...]

UPDATE: Yep, that was it.

Wish

oh, you have to rename siltrock-borders.tga into siltrock.tga

the .map is designed to work with the border-less tga file, not the bordered one, I put the one with borders up for those that prefer it.

oh yeah, it needs to be in dominions 2/maps not under mods anywhere

A little bit too chatotic. Luck would play a big role, as well as the pretender. And starting spell(s), obviously. Mercenaries should be disallowed from the game. Some nations are just plain better this early in the game, and Mictlan would have no hope, except POSSIBLY as a Blood Sacrifice mayhem if it kills another nation.

It would be interesting read, but I quess Atlantis would win.

Tried it out, it is definately a war of dominion at first.

Also found some connection problems in the oceans, gonna have to fix those

it would be fun to to a mp game with: all nations, 1 starting province, easy research, rich world, max sites and maybe some other rules (like on undead ermor)

Wish

Just for me personally, I think 1 dominion humans and no death themes should be a requirement. by which I mean no one can start with more dominion than the base human 1.

the first three turns or so are litterally the high dominion pretenders wiping out the low dominion pretenders.

shovah
January 3rd, 2006, 06:39 PM
yea, i guess (it would be like mega sudden death)

Endoperez
January 3rd, 2006, 07:12 PM
I'm not sure, but I think that would give Blood sacrificing nations a minor bonus. With Mictlan being the only one that mict actually be able to use it, I have nothing against that! They would have really hard time doing anything that early in the game.

Wish

Great map!

I have been playing on it all weekend in SP. Very fun.

I like all the original names of the provinces! (I think they are original... yes?)

No need for borderlines. Works fine without 'em.

thanks in advance.

I just spend the last 6 hours playing a 1x1x1x1 SP game. I am happy to report that Pasha Pan ruled everything and vanquished all foes by the end. There was much rejoicing.
