View Full Version : Advice on avoiding corrupt .2h files?

Hi all, I am running a PBeM Dom 2 game, and I seem to be having a frequent problem with ‘corrupt’ .2h files. When I played in other games, the game hosts seemed to have almost no such problems. I’m wondering what I might do differently to alleviate this problem.

Players email their .2H files to my POP email, and I suck them down either off the web or using Eudora. When I get the files off my email provider’s webserver, I usually have less instances of corrupted .2h, but still every now and then I get a player file that is corrupt no matter what I do. I’ve been forced to run turns with corrupt files on occasion because of this, even though I have had players resend their turns etc…

Ideally, I’d like to use a mail program like Eudora to get .2h files, but find that I get a lot more instances of corrupt files when I do that. Really I’d just like to find out how I can avoid bad .2h files entirely…

Anybody have any advice?

Thanks,

Alarik

Zip them. Files with 'unknown' file extension sometimes get mangled by mail servers during 8<->7 bit conversion.

If you're using dial-up connection, check for error correction settings on your modem.

Just in case, its a good idea to make sure your hard drive is okay.
My old hard disk was worn out, but still working, but every now and then a file would become corrupt (especially newly created files, like downloaded files or copy+pasted files).

I think that Arralen's solution is more likely the appropriate one, though.

Anti virus, anti spam checks (updated to most recent version)are also smart idea. Viruses can sometimes corrupt files.

And yes, Arralen is most likely correct in this one.
