-- DISLAIMER: All versions of this mod contains highly altered or additional files that may or will cause interference with the master game files and it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that this mod be installed and played ONLY in a separate copy of the game and NOT run from the master game. --

I have been messing around with various OOBs in order to create more accurate units and formations (no scenarios) for various players in South East Asia from about 1946-1975. I realize that Laurent has also been working on a seperate pack and I am in no way trying to steal his thunder (I'm sure his pack will probably be better than mine). I am just curious really to see what people think of what I've been working on.

Attached is the folder with the detail file about what units are new, what units were modified, and what formations were added or modified. I'll also post that here in this thread.

If anyone cares to respond, I'm curious as to whether or not anyone who's downloaded these OOBs has any feedback.

Great job dude;). Hmm I wonder whatever happened to Laurent and his Viet War Pack... It could be cool if your OOBs would have as many formations/equipment as Viet War Pack had;)!

Yeah, Laurent's pack was a total conversion for the game, and because of this included far more than what I have. I have personally thought recently about turning either Green or Red into Laos, and using the UN for "independant" mercenaries/CIA/Air America/etc.

As it stands now, I don't think I have near as much information as Laurent does, and really my OOB are just designed to fill in units from the period into existing OOBs for more accurate engagements. I was not initially looking to make the OOBs so comprehensive that you couldn't really play WinSPMBT for any other time period without switching back to the default OOBs.

I'm actually thinking about releasing another update to this, but I'm holding off to see if I can get some people to do new icons so I can include those too.

Btw, do US have Ontos in your OOB? I didn't noticed it (at least yest)...

Ontos are in the default OOBs, I haven't changed them. They're units 042 and 044 in the USMC OOB.

Alright, new release, and I'm adding some notes at the bottom that people might want to read. Also, I've been in contact with some members of these boards trying to collect custom icons to hopefully add more of a visual flavor to all of this as well.

NOTES (In order of how they relate from top to bottom)

1: Cambodian Armored Commando in French OOB. While this may really belong in the Cambodian OOB, given the fact that the ad hoc unit was largely under French control until the end of the French period in Indochina led me to stick it into the French OOB. It may end up in the Cambodian OOB later.

2: Civil Air Transport in French OOB. This was essentially a predecessor to Air America, and is in the French OOB because of their participation in the last stages of the French period. If I get my act together and create a sort of CIA/Merc OOB, then it'll end up there.

3: Unit 817, O-1D Bird Dog, in the US Army OOB has the minimal load capacity for a ammo container, is modeled as an aircraft set up for supply drops, and if one wishes to remain realistic, should not be used for any other purpose.

4: New rivercraft have been added to the USMC OOB, the YRBM was created first and is therefore away from the rest of the new ones. This is a two part note. The YRBM and LST (MRF) (or Mobile Riverine Force) represent vessels that were used as mobile bases essentially. Both vessels had helipads. The arbitrary weight of the helicopters created to represent the Seawolves of HA(L)-3 have been dropped to allow them to "land" on these vessels. Of course this also allows them to be carried by any vehicle with a great enough capacity. Remember that this was only done for the benefit of these two vessels (well the YRBM is more of a barge).

5: Unit 935, O-1C Bird Dog, in the USMC OOB is the same deal as the O-1D in the US Army OOB mentioned in Note 3.

6: ARVN formation 117, "Panicked AS" is supposed to represent an Air Strike gone awry because of a fear of heavy AAA, something that was known to happen in the latter portions of the conflict.

7: ARVN formation 221 "Eagle Flight" represents US supported ARVN air mobile operations during the advisory period. Because of the inability to seperate it any further, the H-34 is also available as a helicopter. As a realism note, it should be mentioned that the H-34 was not used for such operations.

8: ARVN formation 222 "Farm Gate" represents air strikes carried out by USAF aircraft under Operation Farm Gate, which put the aircraft in VNAF colors though not under the control of the South Vietnamese Air Force. While this might belong better in the US Army OOB or in a seperate "USAF" OOB to be created, it seemed reasonable to put it in the ARVN one for the time being.

9: ARVN formation 223 "Kingbee" represents the operations of the 83rd SOG of the VNAF, which supported clandestine US operations in Laos and Cambodia. When the unit was reassigned as the 200-something-th Helicopter Squadron it switched over to using UH-1H helicopters, because this is after the introduction of UH-1Hs to the VNAF as a whole, as a realism note it should be mentioned that one can buy Kingbee UH-1Hs before this is historically correct.

10: Cambodian "M3 (6x4)"s are supposed to represent conversions of US M3 halftracks to 6-wheeled trucks, the concensus being that the resulting vehicle was only 6x4. I forgot, however, to change the speed, so as it stands now the only difference is in the movement type. The speed will be changed in the next release.

Of course feel free to ask other questions as well.

Great stuff thatguy;). Very good detailed OOBs anyway. I suppose that Cambodia OOB is meant for US "allied" side, right? Sorry but I have bit "loss" of information about Cambodia's role in Vietnam war;)...

thatguy96
May 20th, 2006, 11:42 PM
Well Cambodia has a complicated history from Neutralist Prince Sihanouk to General Lon Nol to the Khmer Rouge to the North Vietnamese invasion. What this means is that you have interesting things like T-28s shooting down VNAF aircraft (only one instance) and later MiG-17s with their guns replaced with .50 caliber M2s because of a shortage of replacement parts and ammunitions for the aircrafts original cannons.

There are a number of instances that are similar to what happened in the immediate aftermath of the unification of Vietnam where the new Vietnamese airforce has a combination of US and Russian/Chinese types and operated all US types on a sort of ad hoc basis until spares and weapons ran out, then dropping the type. Note that under unified Vietnamese control during the invasion of Cambodia, large numbers of F-5s, A-37s, and UH-1s were used because they were available and capable. Its a complex history.

An idea I'm playing around with:

http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/6284/revetments5pz.gif

Aircraft Revetments. Take a bunker and give it 10-20 cm of armor on the sides and rear, but no frontal or top armor.

Zero carry capacity.

Only useable in scenarios, really, because to accurately depict the importance of the aircraft inside, you have to edit the scenario yourself and re-cost the units.

thatguy96
May 22nd, 2006, 12:48 PM
That's a really cool idea. I'm not much of a scenario designer, but there are a number of units I've created that might well serve a purpose only in a constructed scenario.

Looks nice those aircraft revetments, but what about when the 'bunker' gets destroyed? Then the revetments would 'disappear'. So how many crew do you give it as crew losses will likely be the biggest problem in keeping the revetments intact when facing small arms and mortar fire?

Uh, Bunkers don't disappear, they get a burning plume of smoke or a mashed up wreckage icon.

So how many crew do you give it as crew losses will likely be the biggest problem in keeping the revetments intact when facing small arms and mortar fire?

Perhaps 3 (to represent crew chiefs and maintenance people caught in near their aircraft and hiding); the entire point is not to make the uber invunerable to small arms or mortar fire; if you emptied a M-16 into a F-16 or an 81mm mortar hit near an F-16, the plane is pretty much going to be inoperable without major work, barring an act of God in which all the bullets and mortar fragments miss important bits.

Since I just added in special operations C-130s for tactical air drops (and a seperate formation for them and the previously included O-1 "transports"), I was curious if anyone would be interested in creating a Fulton STARS C-130 "helicopter" for scenarios or just to mess around with? I'm not much of a scenario person, but this wouldn't be too hard, but realism would be slightly lacking if the mission didn't involve just using it to extract a single unit and then escaping off the map. Basically I would take the existing C-130E(I) I created and turn it into a helicopter with 1 carry. The resulting unit would likely only be useful in scenarios. Just messing around with some ideas and trying to implement them, and thought I'd just put it out there.

Also, the next release does away with all the National Gaurd units and formations in the US Army OOB to free up space. This will be noted, but I'll just put it out there that if you're playing scenarios, battles, or campaigns using these units it'll likely screw them up.

Another update. The next release will feature psyops systems. A number of liberties have been taken with such systems. I found that I could create varying degrees of suppression with weapons with extreme accuracy but no other weapon stats above zero. Now I'm sure people will debate about the effect of such weapons on troops, I feel that tweaking the accuracy ratings might allow for the routing of troops of poor morale and otherwise suppressing units of higher morale. Of course units fitted with Psyops weapons will all feature X3 radio codes for human scenario inclusion or gameplay only, and I just thought this would be fun to mess around with.

thatguy96
July 26th, 2006, 08:07 PM
And the new Total Conversion Addendum. Previously, only the US Army Obat was changed dramatically from its previous incarnation. Now, the additional Obats planned for this addition allow even greater flexibility and space, at the cost of existing OOBs. Check the readme for further details and ask me questions if you're still confused.

Hey when are you going to release next version? Those lists seem to be great IMO. Keep up good work.

thatguy96
July 27th, 2006, 05:11 PM
Well I could probably release the basic Ver3 immediately, but I'm waiting on PlasmaKrab who's been nice enough to volunteer his assistance in getting together an icon pack to go along with this (this will also include the icons that were created for Laurent Touchard's pack, who was nice enough to send me them for my own use as well). I had released the last version as a sort of hold over until I could get this graphic enhancement incorporated. I'd rather not release another version until then. I'd hope that he would be done by the end of August at the latest, but who knows, people have lives outside of Steel Panthers which have a direct effect on things.

The Total conversion, which is right now just the additional "USAF" Obat is something that might stay in the pipeline for longer. My plan to allow it to overlay over the existing pack means that I could easily keep working on it in the background before releasing any version of it. I got the idea from Laurent Touchard who had set his pack up similarly (but much more in depth). We'll see how far I get by the time I'm ready to release Ver3, but its even more ambitious than what I've got going now.

Warhero
July 28th, 2006, 05:52 AM
Sounds good. How about new sounds (like Laurent's mod had)? Heh if someone could convert ALL Laurent's stuff into WinMBT;)... I mean, all those tribe/special forces/other allies (South Korea etc,). And zillion formations of course:)!

It would be blast!

thatguy96
July 28th, 2006, 09:51 AM
I have all of Laurent's unfinished work. I never talked to him about the sounds, but as I've been unable to contact him recently, I've been trying to shy away from using large chunks of it. The icons I had recieved seperately, with the implications that since they weren't his he had no right to hold them for himself.

The sound I really need is a relevant one for the loudspeakers http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Warhero

Any news about next version? And is Laurent going to improve his/your files any way in future? I mean it could be blast to see all Viet War Pack stuff in WinMBT:P... Especially those great plane icons/oobs/sounds!

thatguy96
September 7th, 2006, 09:21 AM
Actually Laurent is back (at least with me via Email) and he's more enthusiastic about getting his project done that I've seen him in the last couple of months. He was essentially out of commission for personal reasons over the summer, but there's more hope than when the summer started that his pack might well be finished.

I've been doing some work on and off, but my first year back in school for my masters has started and needless to say I've become quite busy.

I suggest reading the thread over here (http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43306), where I had posted the last set of readme files. I've done some work since those were posted too though.

I have a question. Would people want a release of the basic pack or would they rather wait until more of the Total Conversion is complete to go along with it?

Do you mean that you will release only oobs (for example) and rest later? I have nothing against it at all;)... I suppose that you don't have any new icons (which need new oobs)? Viet War Pack is great mod (only reason I still have old dos version on my HD)and it would be great to get into WinMBT too...

I've responded to your question in the other thread on the SZO forum.

thatguy96
October 10th, 2006, 05:50 PM
Attached is the release of The Vietnam Specific OOB Project V3. This is the Basic pack, and is designed to mesh relatively well with existing scenarios and saved games. Those playing as either the US Army or as the ARVN might experience some issues.

Most important, back up icons and possibly text before overwriting and copying from the zip. The easiest way to install this pack is to:

1) Extract into the Custom OOBs folder

2) Move the graphics folder, picture folder, and text folder into the Game Data folder. Just hit yes to all, and copy over all the files.

Another note, the text file has a folder called "Text for VSP ONLY." At the moment you'll want to copy this over as well into the main text file. This will only matter once the Total Conversion Pack is released.

Certain units and formations changed positions when moved or applied to the new OOBs in the Total Conversion, so certain text files point to the wrong units in that case. Don't worry about this now, text will be provided with the Total Conversion Pack that will overwrite these and correct it. The distinction and seperation is really only provided for when the two packs are installed together and some people want to install just the VSP. They will need the proper text files in this case.

Otherwise the basics are as follows, and you can consult the included readme for the specifics:

- Over 200 new units and 100 new formations across 9 OOBs

- A largely overhauled ARVN OOB now including a variety of paramilitary forces.

- Just over 100 new icons thanks to Plasmakrab (first and foremost), Mark Shepard and Laurent Touchard (who supplied me with his and did some of the work I believe)

- New formation and encyclopedia text

- A detailed Readme with documentation of the changes since the last release (v2.7) and a near complete bibliography of my sources of information

With all that I hope you enjoy it. Feedback, as always, is appreciated.

Thanks, Joe "Thatguy" Trevithick

Great stuff Joe! Especially ARVN oob. Can't wait to get Total Conversion:)... I suppose that you will add Laurent's sounds into that too? And how about scens/campaigns?

thatguy96
October 12th, 2006, 06:39 PM
I was hoping at a certain point to add some sounds I could find on my own. I still want to create some for the speaker systems, because the machine gun sound if a poor substitute.

On the matter of scens or campaigns, I'm not very good at them. I'm sure I could learn, but its not a strong suit of mine. I'm more than willing to assist anyone who wants to build them off the pack and needs specific units or formation or whatever. Anyone who wants to add them to the pack would be properly credited as well.

Warhero
October 13th, 2006, 05:17 AM
Well scens/campaigns are not necessary IMHO... But couple good Vietnam maps could be nice to get;). I know that WinMBT had some maps but couple (even bigger size than those)more isn't bad thing...

Yeah, so after looking at the new OOBs, I think I'm just gonna keep my ARVN ones as is, make the changes to the rest of the non-US OOBs (French, Australia, USA, USMC, etc), but the OOBs I've been working on from scratch should be okay (costs and unit class issues will of course have to be addressed).

Attached is the Basic pack done for V3 with some already planned additions. Release is in two parts, copy OOBs (Part I) to a custom OOB folder, and then back up and copy the graphics, text and pictures folders (Part II) to the right places.

Work on the Total Conversion continues, but I have no ETA on when I'll feel ready for an initial release.

thatguy96
February 6th, 2007, 09:31 AM
That's odd, I rechecked, and found two units that I had still failed to change, but I unzipped Part I on my end and it was fine. I also dled the one I put up here and it's working fine on my end. Anyone else having this problem?

Also, here is the revised OOB12 with the remaining two helo's fixed on my end. Warhero, would it be possible to go into MOBHack and look at the icon numbers for the units in question?

Warhero
February 6th, 2007, 12:48 PM
Yesterday I noticed couple of UH's (sorry I don't remember their unit numbers anymore...) which I tried to change into right icons with Mobhack. But there are still something for fixing:

USA:
UNIT: ICON #:
118 2527
279 2529
291 2529
292 2527
891 2528
893 2540
894 2540
897 2531
898 2534
901 2534
902 2531

USMC:
UNIT: ICON #:
504 2531
506 2531
970 2527
971 2527

AUSTRALIA:
UNIT: ICON #:
453 2531
454 2535
455 2535

THAILAND:
UNIT: ICON #:
594 2531

thatguy96
February 6th, 2007, 01:31 PM
That's odd, in the OOB's I have those are all fixed. Its the 2600 block instead of the 2500 block now, and in my OOBs this is what it says. You can fix this yourself by simply changing 25 to 26 for the time being, but when I get a chance I'll look back over it.

Is it any different in the new OOB12 I posted? Weird. Could you be installing an older set of OOBs? This would explain it as well (I myself got very confused at some points now that I have over a half-dozen versions on my comp.

Warhero
February 6th, 2007, 02:31 PM
Ok I installed your new oob there and now all US copters are ok;)! But those other oobs have wrong icon (as seen above)... Could you fix them?

thatguy96
February 6th, 2007, 05:27 PM
I'll check them when I get home, not sure when that'll be today, but this won't take long. I'll definitely do it ASAP, and then rezip Part I.

I'm also going to dl the pack again and check the OOBs again, because I swear, the problem's you're having are not showing up when I dl the OOBs I posted here. I'm just curious as to how this is happening.

Warhero
February 6th, 2007, 07:32 PM
It's mystery for me too because I have not earlier versions of your oobs in my custom oob-folder... Somehow corrupted files perhaps?

Alright, I updated the .zip. If its still not working let me know, and then I'll just have to suggest manually changing the numbers on your end. Its correct for me. thatguy96
February 9th, 2007, 12:36 AM
The South Korean OOB is actually pretty good, not to mention the South Korean mission did not really involve any non-standard formations. I think the only thing that's really missing are the ACAV-style M113 conversions that both the Tiger and Capital Divisions both created for their vehicles. I could always update the icons though heh.

Note, the stuff forwarded to me by Laurent Touchard also had no modified SK OOB included.

Warhero
February 9th, 2007, 06:13 AM
Ok. Just thinking all allied nations (in this case SK)... How much Philippines sent troops into Vietnam? Any sense to make oob?

thatguy96

That might be something to investigate. Technically the so-called Free World Armed Forces in Vietnam included:

The United States
Australia
South Korea
The Philippines
Republic of China (Taiwan)
Thailand

I just don't have all that much information on the Philippines or the ROC contributions beyond what's in the CMH monograph: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/books/Vietnam/allied/

Laurent Touchard's conversion had a Philippine OOB and an updated ROC one IIRC, and I might see how much I can take from there. The ROC one could easily be modified and added to the standard pack, the Philippine one would require a totally new OOB and be more suited to the planned Total Conversion, along, hopefully, with some sort of Lao OOB (again I just don't personally have the info at my disposal right now).

Alright, so I figured I'd mention it here too. The total conversion now has a pretty basic Philippine OOB (then again the force they sent was pretty basic), and a more or less complete Lao OOB.

Currently features in the Total Conversion (including those updated from the basic pack):

Army of the Republic of Vietnam
Australia
Cambodia
France
Laos (Royal Lao Government and Neutralists)
MACV/CIA/Etc
People's Army of Vietnam
Philippines
South Korea
Thailand
US Air Force
US Army
US Marine Corp
US Navy
Viet Cong

I played couple of battles and I'm impressed how good you got Laurent's stuff (well at least part of it;)) to work in WinMBT too. Not any bad errors (well, I'm not checked all oob's than USMC/US Army and VC yet). Hmm was M60 Patton really used in Vietnam? Or just "here and there" (small amounts)? I remember that M48 and Bulldog were most used tanks there...

thatguy96
March 17th, 2007, 07:39 PM
The tank history might have to be reworked a little. I haven't done much on it, and what I have done was more in the USMC OOB.

Note that the M60A1 was first introduced into the US Army in the early 1960s, but you are correct in that none were actually deployed to South East Asia. IIRC, they were all deployed to Europe to help counter the threat of Soviet Armor, while the armor threat in South East Asia required far less attention.

PlasmaKrab
March 18th, 2007, 07:25 AM
Just add the early M-60 variants in the same unit class as the other earlier tanks (like the M-48) and give them an X3 radio code.
That will prevent them from being all over the place when the IA buys units, but they will be available for scenario design etc.
If you have already tinkered with the unit information tags (I haven't yet), you can add a little something saying that "the M-60s were mainly deployed to CONUS and Europe due the higher Soviet armoured threat, etc., but could have been shipped to SEA at short notice to counter an unexpected NVA armored push" or whatever. Not that it makes much sense now that I write it, but hey, it gives you a reason to keep it on board.

thatguy96
March 18th, 2007, 12:58 PM
I'll definitly note this issue for future releases. There are also enough MBT clones to actually create VN tank formations completely seperate.

Warhero
March 18th, 2007, 03:28 PM
And how about role of M103A1 Heavy Tank (in USMC oob)? Any used in Vietnam? And which oobs/units have B-52? I didn't found any (or am I blind;))?

thatguy96
March 18th, 2007, 04:11 PM
All USAF aircraft are contained in the new USAF OOB (formerly the UN OOB, #80). Use the allies tab to switch over to the UN OOB to purchase aircraft, C/SAR helos, special operations units (including Igloo White sensor drops), and Security Police.

The numbers of the other OOBs are contained in the Readme file. Only the MACV/SOG/CIA OOB has a new flag at present though (skull and bones).

Yeah, the tank stuff appears to warrant some clarification for sure. As an interesting FYI, while no M103 tanks were deployed, the USMC deployed M51 recovery vehicles to Vietnam, which were based on the M103 and designed specifically to recover that tank.

Warhero
March 19th, 2007, 02:43 AM
Ok I must check UN oob bit carefully;)... And what comes to M103, was it used in Vietnam anytime? Or just that recovery vehicle?

Alright, so as always the patch has caused an immediate setback in order to bring everything up to code. Last time I stalled on doing this for some time, and I'm not sure when my life will allow for it. The largest amount of work would likely go into trying to find files with space for the icons (though the new hovercraft icons are really cool!), but with things like the new hovercraft class I might want to look over various other issues before any future release.

Basically, there's logistical work to be done before any future release, and I'm not sure when it'll get done.

For those of you who are interested, I've posted a new replacement Lao OOB, with picklist, over at the GS Forum's thread linked to above. No readme is included, but this will be the new standard for the next Alpha release of the whole total conversion pack.

Feedback is always appreciated.

Are you going to release next Alpha this weekend/next week?

thatguy96
June 7th, 2007, 11:14 AM
Not sure, but I got up the energy to do the picklist for the Lao OOB (and added some new units to make it more functional), so I saw no reason not to release that as it was basically the same.

Still not sure about picklists for the USN, USAF, and MACV/SOG OOBs either. They really don't have enough units to make that work. The Lao OOB can basically stand on its own as Red now, from 1/46 until 5/75. At some point in the future I might fix it to then become the Communist Lao OOB from 6/75 until 12/120.

Just a little update on my actual situation, my laptop LCD is kaput and going back to Dell today. They say It'll be back in 8 working days, but we'll see heh.

So basically, work is stalled at this point because of physical hardware issues. However, I'd say its probably safe to expect something end of July-beginning of August.

Can you point me to a Vietnam era TO&E for the USMC?
Been searching the net for a while and no luck.

thatguy96
August 26th, 2007, 06:36 PM
I actually haven't had much luck with the USMC in the way of TO&E information for infantry, armor, arty, and many support units. I was hoping I might be able to work with you on it for my pack actually hehe.

I've had the most luck adding things in my USMC OOB with regards to aircraft and helicopters. You'll notice in the change file for the USMC OOB, there are dramatically fewer changes then there are for the Army OOB.

Well I can give you bits and pieces but nothing comprehensive.
Part of the problem is there were several changes, experiments, and upgrades done during the 1962-1969 period. So although there was a paper TO&E (which is what I'm looking for) the TO&E actually used varied not only from year to year but in some cases from unit to unit. Given your project I suspect you're more interested in what was used as opposed to what was on paper.

thatguy96
August 27th, 2007, 05:01 PM
Yeah, I am, but a paper base is a good place to start from. I might find some time to do some searching and work on the project this week, but school starts Wednesday and I'm gone every weekend from now until the weekend of the Sept 15th, so who knows. Send me and Email and we can talk more about this.

Do a search for M1918A2 in this document.

It was used by the ARVN in Vietnam and by the US advisers. The link I got was a USMC form for weapons reporting. You would be surprised what exists in the armoury of the Regular Forces ,Reserve and National Guard troops around the country. Some units never get rid of weapons unless they have to.

link below shows an advisor shooting a BAR on a range with the a ARVN trooper.

The good news is that whatever my next release looks like the total conversion will have the correct flags for Laos and Philippines, and a proper miniflag for the MACV/SOG oob. I'm still trying to work out flags for the USAF and USN oobs. I made the USAF miniflag the USAF roundel, but I'm not sure how good it will look if I try to make the actual USAF flag for the others (I might stick with the roundel for the other flags). The USN might be difficult as there's no good way around having to take a stab at a very low res version of the official USN flag.

Yeah, I've definitely thought about picking that book up, and I've spent a fair amount of time talking with Gordon Rottman himself for this project actually. His Order of Battle book on the US Army, which is supposed to focus more on smaller unit organization, is coming out in March.

I also found the location of the rest of the Vietnam Pubs on the USMC website: http://www.usmc.mil/directiv.nsf/HISTORICAL?openview&count=5000&start=1

Here's a question. If I stopped work on the Vietnam Specific OOB and concentrated completely on the total conversion, and moved the OOBs and such from the VSP into the Total Conversion would people miss not having the "lite" version of the pack?

junk2drive
November 25th, 2007, 06:41 PM
I'd prefer a TC pack even if it is missing some minor things.

IOW if it has the US, ARVN and NVA/VC in and mostly done.

thatguy96
November 25th, 2007, 09:03 PM
I'm thinking its gotten to the point where I'm going to combine the two, because creating picklists for two versions of an OOB seem to more than I'm willing to do hehe.

PlasmaKrab
November 26th, 2007, 08:55 AM
TC sounds the way to go, what with the amount of work and mods you have piled up. I mean, once you've dabbled in the data proper you can't expect an OOB pack to do the job, except if you work on two totally separate versions using your add-ins and the stock files respectively.

Here it is, the first iteration of the complete Total Conversion (still going on the previous Total Conversion numbering).

So this time you'll need:

1. Nothing but this pack, its all in there.

What you'll need to do:

1. Copy the Total Conversion Pack into a seperate Custom OOB folder or into a duplicate install of the game
2. Copy the requisite graphics, rank, name, and text files over, after backing up the defaults (always back up the defaults)
3. Using the OOB manager copy over the OOBs (You an also just permanently install them, especially if you're using a duplicate install)

What's new:

Besides it all being together, there have been numerous additions, including,

- A total of 15 upgraded OOBs, including the newly upgraded South Korean and North Vietnamese OOB and the complete Philippine OOB.

- Even more icons thanks to the usual players, special thanks to Plasmakrab for his new AH-1 and SA-2 icons

- Some custom LBMs. Again, thanks to Plasmakrab.

- Revised and expanded picklists for all nations with the exceptions of Australian and all US OOBs (wanted to release and this would've taken me longer)

- Correct Rank and Names for all nations

- Changed menu flags (Finally, for all nations, including US Navy, USAF, and others, thx to the SPCamo team for the Lao flags)

What you don't get:

- Formation and unit text (this always seems to lag behind)

- Complete reference list (If you want a list of the sources I used I'll be happy to provide it)

- Correct icons for every unit (but we're getting better all the time)

- Correct lbms for all units (the LBM format still creates issues)

It can be dled via Rapidshare here (Total size ~5MB): http://rapidshare.de/files/38256331/Vietnam_Total_Conversion_0.75.zip.html

Enjoy!

Here is Alpha V 0.81, which is being released in its current form so that players will have a V4 compatible version to play with.

Instructions are the same as the last time, but in case people can be bothered to scroll up:

What you'll need:

What's new:

- Nothing dramatically new in this version. Small changes have been made, but the biggest is the fact that this pack is now V4 based. Previously the OOBs had more or less been based on stock OOBs somewhere between Patches V2.5 and V3. All OOBs should incorporate various stock design changes (mainly those to weapon stats), with the obvious slew of subsequent changes.

- Revised picklists for every nation (this is becoming a higher priority and as soon as very OOBs fill out it should be easier to complete this)

It can be dled via Rapidshare here (Total size ~5MB): http://rapidshare.de/files/39539582/Vietnam_Total_Conversion_0.81.zip.html

Enjoy!

Updates haven't stopped, they've just slowed. I graduated with my masters in May, and my job has meant a lot less time where I feel energetic for such things. I've shifted focus slightly too, to smaller projects. I managed to get the Sri Lanka OOB out, and I'm working (albeit really slowly) on the Singapore one.

The tasks of fixing the name and rank files, writing unit and formation text, and filling out OOBs with units so I can create picklists for them do not generally have the same appeal as researching and creating units and weapons heh. Most of the exotic stuff I've already done, now its mostly grunt work.
