View Full Version : Getting hammered by a spell

Every round someone is casting lightning and so far I have lost about 7 or 8 commanders (mostly High Seraphs) and a ton of troops. I have no idea what this spell is, where it hits, who its coming from, and how to defend it. It just notifies me that a god has unleashed lightning and gives casualty reports. Unless it kills a commander, I have no idea where it hits.

How do you defend against this? I have no idea where he's going to strike, and apart from putting up domes every where (something I can't even do at this point),
how do I stop it?

sounds like a global, forget the name - are you in enemy dominion? what globals are up?

Its a global spell and it's not hitting just you but everyone on the map... except for the one who casted the spell.

It's a global - Wrath of god, I think; dispel it, or give your commanders some protections vs. lighting.

Ya that was it. I thought it was an attack because I got hit by two AI's the same turn. Thanks guys. Unfortunatley I have no easy way to dispell it.

empowerment, boosters and lucky mercs are your best options

The spell just randomly hits your troops so the more you have the less likely your prize units will be hit. Tho I have noticed it has an uncanny ability to nail important mages... could just be luck. Anyway, putting rings of lightning resist on your key commanders will solve things for them. As globals go its more of a nuisance than a serious threat.

If you have assassins, you can also try to kill the caster, which will break the enchantment. I took out a Wrath of God this way once, with a succubus, who lost an arm in the process.

What if you seduced/charmed etc the caster?

Do you get the global?
Does it go down?
Can you kill off your new character to break it?

The global would remain for the original caster.... killing your new character should break the spell.... never tested this scenario.

but remember you cant charm pretenders

Of course, an awful lot of globals are cast by pretenders or singular summonses who can be _awfully_ hard to nail with any non-unique assassin. (Or possibly a rl'yan assassin, if the caster has astral.) Not to mention the difficulty of finding the caster.

On related topic, do domes protect against Wrath of god?

I faced the global in MP recently and I think I didn't lose any commander in domed provines, but it's hard to tell w/o precise info on casualties. Additionally, domes were over provs with high positive dominion, which influences the effectiveness of the spell, doesn't it?

yah, wrath is dependent upon dominion. I very much doubt that domes protect against it; i know of no other cases where globals are interfered w/ by domes.
