When looking at Atlantis's description it said there was a special theme called Ocenia.Buy can't select it.
What is Ocenia and how do I use it?

Go to "special themes" or whatever during the creation. It will automatically list all the themes that a nation can use. All themes under that list are determined by scales, and unless you use that feature you will only see the option to select it if you have the pre-req scales.

Oceania is different, though.
It's actually a mod. Install the mod and you get Oceania instead of base Atlantis. It's on Illwinter's Mods page.
Kind of like underwater Pangaia. Water and Nature magic, which isn't a real useful combination. At least I couldn't get very far with it.

Where do I put the .dm file and the folder full of pictures?

Unzip it into the mods directory.
Both the .dm and the Oceania folder will be in dominions2/mods

You need a "mods" folder in the folder you installed Dominions2 into, e.g.:
dominions\mods\ <= put dm file here, unzip the folders in the zip file here as well:
dominions\mods\oceania <= the tga files should umzip here
dominions\mods\oceania\oceandata\ <= and here
If your unzip-programm can't unzip complete folders, I would suggest using 7-zip (www.7-zip.org). It's free, it's opensource and it comes with the native .7z-format that is up to 50% more efficient than .zip. And there's a Linux version, but that's command line only atm. ...

Ya I knew there was a Mod called Oceania, but since he said the above quote, I thought the mod might be a remake of a theme.

In your Dominions II folder, usually something like C:\Games\Dominions II, there is a subfolder called mods. Modding was added in an early patch, but if you see the Oceania hint, you should already have good enough version. Also, modding folder isn't generated before you run Dominions II for the first time after it knows about the modding support, i.e. after it has been updated. I think this has happened because you saw Atlantis' description.
Now, here's the original PR info:
"Oceania Arises in Dominions II: The Ascension Wars!
New Mod Along With A New Patch Now Ready!
Cary, NC, 16 December, 2004
Who says that you have to wait until December 25th for your gifts? Christmas comes early for Dominions II players around the world as Illwinter Game Design and Shrapnel Games unveil two new upgrades for the acclaimed fantasy title!
First, deck the halls and smite your enemies with the new official Oceania mod. Oceania is a savage nation beneath the waves consisting of mermen, tritons, and halfmen out to do what all nations want to do in Dominions II, make their god numero uno. The mod replaces the standard Atlantis realm with Oceania. While a fully playable nation the Oceania mod is also actually a "preview", as it will appear additionally in the upcoming Dominions III as one of the new nations. The Dominions III version will have even more units, more spells, and well, more of everything. Consider the Dom III version to be the super-sized version of the Dom II official mod.
Next, ring in the yule and put up your Festivus pole with the Dominions II version 2.15 patch. Necessary for use with the Oceania mod mentioned above, the patch also tweaks some gameplay features and takes care of a few pesky bugs. The tweaks include a couple of new mod commands, some spell modifications, and more. "
Oecania is the first mod available at http://www.illwinter.com/dom2/mods.html .
You have to unzip the files in there (.dm text file that has the statistics, and a folder with a bunch of pictures) to Dominions II\mods\ folder. That is, to the mods folder under your Dominions II folder that I talked about earlier. I don't know why it isn't showing to you.
P.S. Oceania mod also changes Clam of Pearls item to also have Nature requirement, so don't wonder if you can't forge it with only W2 mages.

I remember that some OS had problems with that. This is from the "Technical and hardware issues" thread, pinned to the top of the main forum.

Q: I get an error "Some files are missing or locked" in iPatch when I try to install the 2.14 patch for Mac OS X.
I can install and run Version 2.02 (full Version, from CD), to either my Applications or home directory. I have administrator rights.
Is the patch incremental? That is, do I need to update to some Version higher than 2.02 before the 2.14 patch can work?
And solution being:
Problem solved! Dominions 2.02 gets installed in read-only mode. iPatch doesn't override the read-only flag. Before running iPatch, it is necessary to Command-I on the installed dominions2 application and set it to read/write. Then iPatch works fine, straight from 2.02 to 2.14.

Then you didn't install it properly. Check mod folder and tell us (type us actually) where did the files go.

Ok, there should be this:
- One oceania.dm file in mod folder
- mod\oceania folder with pictures in it.
- mod\oceania\oceandata with more pictures in it
You need to have all those in your Dominions2\mod folder and need to exit/start game again to allow dominions to pick up new mod.
Other that that, I don't see what could be wrong.

No: On my machine its "dom2/mods/" rather than "dom2/mod/". Be aware of the "s".
However, installing the required latest patch should create the "mods" folder anyway.

You are correct, it's mods not mod. My bad.

Hmm, there is still one problem I can think of, which I once suffered myself:
I once installed Dom2 on my Linux machine globally as root. Forgot about it (because of non-functional OpenGL drivers at that time - never ATI-grahpics for a Linux Laptops again http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif ) and installed it later on again locally.
Afterwards mods would not be recognized, since I was installing them in my local installation while entering dom2 on the commandline would run the global installtion, which thus missed the new files...
So do other mods work for you or is it just a problem with oceania? What is the version shown in the main menu?

Another thing to check that I've run into before, when you start the game and look at the mod preferences, the list is limited to the number of mods it can list - I think it's 50. Anything beyond the 50th mod just doesn't show up in the list. Depending on how many you have, you might have to temporarily remove a few from the folder to see those at the bottom of the list.
It seemed wild to me at first that Dom2 has as many mods as it does, but there are more avaiable than the list can handle at one time. =) That's what happened to me with the Shepherds of Creation mod. I had thought something was broken or I had done something wrong because it wouldn't show up in the preferences list. but after I did a little house cleaning on old mods, there it was. =)
