According to the product description, WinSPWW2 is
Fully Windows compatible, with a complete removal of all DOS problems. All sound and mouse routines Windows compliant now..
Does this mean that other sound formats than .wav are supported? I'm interested in creating some new music for it and the .wav and size limitations have always been a major hindrance.

Edit sounds.ini to point to your new sounds.
the header shows the fiollowing comment
;
;
; ties the sound number to a file name
; 0-255
; sound can be an MP3, WAV or other (?) windows sound file type
;
Anything DirextShow/DirectPlay can handle should do. I have used MP3 (and removed that as some cheap codecs.and or cards cannot handle multiple MP3 strams), WAV and somebody has uses wma. Should be good for mid etc, but beware of using really large sounds.

What I can suggest is build a test unit in MOBHack using the sound you want then play around with different formats and see if it works. As Andy said."Anything DirextShow/DirectPlay can handle should do". We went back to WaV becasue although only a small minority had problems with MP3's it was enough to go back to WAV as the path of least resistance. There are better formats but we have to try to keep as many people happy as possible
You can use one of the blank entries in the sounds.ini file then edit it to point at the file name you want to experiment with
