View Full Version : Modded nations only PBEM

I would like to check whether or not it is possible to have a game with mods only.
My main concern is unbalanced mods so I was thinking that if somehow I could compile a list of balanced mods then it would possible to have a fair, fun PBEM game that consists only of modded nations.
I have dabbled a bit with some mods but I can't say I'm familiar enough with any of them to determine how balanced they are.
My goal is to create a game of difficult settings (poor income and gems, very difficult research and strong indeps. ) of modded nations. Balance mod 5.4 (latest) will also be used.
Approved mods, replaced nation, player:
necropolis, Machaka,
halls of the underkings, Ulm, (Shovah?)
Forest of loren, Pangaea, (Wraith?)
fallen crusade (new nephilim), Mictlan, (Shovah?)
Rise of the gollarn, Vanheim, (Wraith?)
kami, Tien Chi
black moon, Tien Chi
knights of light, Marignon
knights of justice, Caelum
Oglala Sioux, Tien Chi, (Shovah?)
orcish empire, Abysia & Tien Chi
amazon empire, Pangaea
false dawn, R'lyeh

Sounds great, I will have to find the strongest modded nation and say it is balanced first. =P
Or perhaps I will wait and see if this game starts before I get internet again.

necropolis and halls of the underkings are fairly balanced. The new nephilim mod is fairly balanced but could do with a bit of work. Another problem is having to make sure the modded nations dont overlap. Im in if one is started.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WRAITHLORD!

Hey, Thanks Shovah http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
(And look what I'm doing at my birthday, setting up another DOM game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif )
I'll update the list of modded nations in the first post.
Let us see if we can make up a sound list of modded nation that are balanced and do not conflict, but most importantly, if we can come up with enough players to start a game.

yea, was playing forest of loren earlier. I also suggest the fallen crusade (new nephilim) mod, seems fairly balanced to me (recruitables a bit bland yet strong and only way to get mages is indies/30+ astral summons). Rise of the gollarn is ok, as are the kami, black moon, knights of light and knights of justice. Devils lair should be open to debate imo as it can recruit devils as commanders and demon knights/storm demons as troops among others (though it pays for them). If any nations conflict then some1 could just swap them around probably. Oglala Sioux, orcish empire, amazon empire and false dawn (my false dawn no longer works, if someone could put all the mods we are using into one mod it would help.)
Another thing to consider would be using the: an age aside mod which has 17 different nations, only a few units each but i find it fun.

Thanks again Shovah, I've updated the list according to your recommendation.
I agree that it would have been very nice if someone could create a mod for this game containing all the modded nations.
Another thing that has just occurred to me - Do these mods conflict with the balance mod?

i dont think they conflict with cb, ive also got false dawn and an age aside (which i doubt we will be using) working again. All we really need is people to sign up, confirm what mods we are using and ask someone to make them on different nations.
false dawn is rlyeh, amazon is pangaea, oglala is tien chi, orcish is abysia and tien chi, knights of light is marignon, black moon is tien chi and knights of justice is caelum. A game with an age aside would be good too.
i will be either fallen empire, oglala or halls of the underkings.

Updated first post according to shovah's info.
I'm not sure about age aside, maybe it can be used for another game that uses it exclusively, for this game however I'm not so sure it really fits.

yea, i dont think an age aside works or matches up well with other mods.

Fallen crusade sounds fun, I will perhaps find time to try that mod, intresting to have no recruitable mages. But if they have 30+ astral summons, they may have great variaty.

i meant the mages cost 30+ gems, but they do have all of the undead ermors spells used (AE and SG i think) so have alot of summons (including nice assasins+mages). Their only recruitables iirc are mindless troops and commanders for them.

I recall times when a new game wouldn't be open for more then a few hours. I guess ppl want to free time for dom-III, which makes perfect sense to me, which in turn is why I came with the modded nations idea.

I would have prefered a game with more players but I guess we can use a small map and play a quick game.
The only thing is I have a bussiness trip next week so I'll only be able to start the game when I have returned (in two weeks).
Two weeks is a long time, maybe more players will join by then.

Just to point out, Kami replaces vanheim theme, not TC (even though it's an Eastern mod)

Oh, thanks for pointing this out. I'll give up the gollarn then (they also replace van) and probably switch to necropolis.
KissBlade

Oh actually you can take vanheim themes, I tried playtesting Kami and they're not only rather awful IMO (aside from a VERY broken pretender) but also extremely ugly in graphics =) and very dull to play.

Well dom3 is coming soon enough, it will bring us plenty of new nations and remember, mods will be easy to transfer from 2 to 3.
