Some news from the Dominions demo front. The Windows version of the demo has been completed and is ready for beta testing. Hopefully it works ok (it did for me at least) and then only a Mac and Linux version remains to be done before Shrapnel can put it all up on their site.

Naah... What's this I hear? Something new to test, what? Dominions? We tested that already didn't we, I think this can wait a few season. Err, weeks. I mean weeks. I mean, these Beastmen just destroyed my tula, because I had taken their leaders hostage when they threatened my clan, because I had raided a duckling village, because they didn't pay the tribute (well, my farmers wanted more land too, but that's no biggie), because I had stolen food from them when a curse had destroyed my wheat, because I couldn't trade for food due to Horse-Spawn having plundered my horses and goods when I had forgotten to re-issue patrols after raiding the Oak Trees to avenge the kidnapping of one of my clan's women, which they did because I had killed two of their hunters poaching in my area when my own hunters had a hard time catching anything because they were cursed when I broke promise I gave to a talking fox, but I had to do that because I had merged another clan to mine and we had become the largest clan on my corner of the Dragon Pass and I was forced to have more fields for feeding the newcomers next year and half of my thanes were sick because something I did had made Chalana Arroy send a curse upon me. And that's horrible!

I mean, where can I get the cows to, err, time to mourn for the dead! I'm sure the testing can wait until Storm Season, because there's so much to do now that the roads might still be open.

In other words: the demo'll have to tested inside and out, probably single- and multiplayer, and I just got to know we'll have to test it, and i just rediscovered King of Dragon Pass. Make a trickster sacrifice a few cows, that usually works. Just make sure he doesn't take foolish chances in battles.

Bummer... 97% of us have to wait longer for the Dominions_3 demo because of the 3% which use Mac and Linux. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif I really don't think the Mac and Linux users will lose sleep if the Windows version demo is released a few days earlier.

Well happy birthday!

By the way, I saw the guy second from the left fight, he is a friggin' MONSTER. His thighs are like a foot wide and every time he did a leg kick you could hear it crack.

Question- the release date for Dominions 3 is 10/02/2006. Now, does that mean it's REALLY released on 10/02/2006, or is that a tentative maybe date to be followed by another release date etc.?

Also, I preordered, and the website says it is backordered. When can I expect it to be shipped?

I agree with Kurgan, get the Windows demo out now! Since Macintosh/Linux users have systems that don't crash randomly for no apparent reason, I'm sure they won't mind throwing us tortured Windows users a bone out of mercy.

He is Mirko Filipovic aka Cro Cop. I've met with him 2 times so far in Croatia. [Some people who I know and training with know Mirko very well.] He is a great fighter indeed.

Filipovic, ya? I really liked his style, very calm and persistent. He lost the fight I saw him in by an arm lock, but you could tell he was the superior fighter.

I think I could take him if he was in a coma and was tied down securely... maybe.

Taking on the Beastmen? Ouch. :p

I think the ugliest game I had there was when I decided to play a 'thrallmaster' game, taking as many thralls from as many clans as possible. It was... interesting, to say the least, up to the catastrophe where an enemy raid finally beat my defense well enough to let everybody's peoples go.

Well it is for sure that most of the people are using Window$. However 97%-3% is a bit hardcore, maybe its like 75%-25%.
Anyways, Im pretty sure that the demo will be out on this week. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

from JK's post I deduce not so much that the windoze version is ready to be released, but ready to be tested. This gives some time for the Mac and Linux versions to be put together. I doubt that they'll come out at different times.

N.B. I speak as a rational being rather than as a beta tester (which is not to imply that you can't be both http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif )

That's the same as preventing an entire kids soccer team from having cookies and cake just because two kids are allergic to chocolate and thus everyone has to wait while the raisin cookies and vanilla cake are made. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
I know I wouldn't mind waiting while everyone else is having a great time playing the demo while I waited... guess some people are not as caring and generous.

Bad analogy imo : Imagine that the kids soccer team is having cookies and cake, but two kids on the team aren't, but are told "We know you can't eat chocolate, in three days you two can come get some raisin cookies and vanilla cake, in the meantime try to have fun watching the other boys and girls eat." http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

So you're saying even tho all the kids want cake and cookies it's better to make ALL of them wait two or three days.
As I said earlier... I wouldn't mind waiting while others enjoyed the demo, but I guess not everyones is as caring and generous.

It's called "solidarity"http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif.

I suppose it's also a practical issue. Any bugs found in the Windows version will also be found in the Linux and Mac versions. So it's better to fix as many bugs as possible while the demo is in one piece, than to release it as three versions (Win, Mac, and Linux) and then have to fix each issue three times (one for each version). Could that be it?

I agree with NTJedi on one point. I don't see any problems why a Window$ version shouldn't be released before the linux playtesting.

Yea I agree, as well.

Fingers crossed the demo will be out Oct. 2nd, then we can all play and play and play...until the full version arrives...then we can...yes u guessed...play and play again... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/stupid.gif

Safekeeper has got it right. All bugs will be fixed at once that way. After the fixes have been implemented there will be a very quick test of all 3 versions and then all will be released at once.
