News Release For Immediate Release

Dominions 3 Declares War On Productivity!
Highly Anticipated Multi-OS Fantasy Strategy Title Now Shipping!

Hampstead, NC, 29 September 2006

It's time. Call in sick to work or school. Tell them you ate some bagged spinach and
you're violently ill. Claim amnesia and say you don't remember ever working at the
office or going to that school. Or just say you've come down with a sudden case of
agoraphobia and if you step outside you're sure the squirrels, which have been plotting
all summer to bring you ruin and destruction, will finally make their move. Whatever
plans you have, wherever they may be, cancel them. For it is finally here. The game
you've been waiting for, the game that will cause you to climb the tallest mountain and
shout for joy.

Dominions 3: The Awakening has shipped!

It's news so grand that it's worth repeating, in case your mind is still reeling with the
implication of that last sentence. Dominions 3-you know, that fantasy strategy sequel
to the smash hit Dominions II: The Ascension Wars for Windows, Mac, and Linux-is
now shipping.

Did you pre-order? We hope you weren't waiting to pick it up at the store. You won't
find it there. Dominions 3: The Awakening isn't meant to be sold by some slack-jaw
yokel in a blue polo shirt, no it's a game of inner grace and rapture that is meant to be
carefully cradled in a USPS box, handled lovingly by the caring folks at Shrapnel Games
direct to you. At this very moment, indeed this very second, those caring folks are
sending out legions of Dominions 3 games to all of you waiting for the greatness to
arrive. Soon friends, soon. You'll receive the game and the nice, thick tome of a manual,
and fire up that first game on your PC, Mac, or Linux box. Bliss. Bliss on a CD. All
hail the Dom.

If you did not pre-order (Why?) then let's talk about what you're missing out on.
Dominions 3: The Awakening is the next installment in the best-kept secret of strategy
fantasy gaming on your computer. Turn-based in nature, the general theme is one easily
identifiable to gamers: conquer your opponents in a fantasy world spanning three Ages
and encompassing fifty playable nations. Where Dominions 3 veers away from the
conventional is in the sheer amount of gameplay.

Most games leave you wanting more. More units, more spells, more whatever. There's a
reason modding is so popular. With Dominions 3 you may still want to mod, but no one
is going to say they've been left with too little. Just within the basic, unmodded game,
you get over 1500 combat units, 600 spells, and 300 magic items. Basically imagine
taking a shelf of D&D books and cramming them into a computer game. Whatever your
play style, whatever your taste, you'll find it in Dominions 3.

Speaking of play styles Dominions 3 caters to both the single and multiplayer player
equally. If you enjoy playing against the AI you'll find plenty of maps to play on, with
the ability to easily import new ones or even create them randomly. If you enjoy mixing
it up against other players Dominions 3 supports a whopping twenty-one (live or AI)
players in a game! And because turns are handled simultaneously the game never drags.

Dominions 3: The Awakening is also the easiest game of the series to get into. The 299
page manual is highly informative, the interface has been revamped, and many of the
mechanics have been streamlined and/or made much more visible. You'll be jumping
into the game and spreading your dominion quicker than you can say, "Shib-Niggurath,
Dark Mother of a Thousand Young, We beseech You to destroy our enemies, for they are
as molten wax in your cauldron of hate!"

For more information on Dominions 3: The Awakening visit its gamepage at
http://www.shrapnelgames.com/Illwinter/Dom3/1.htm. (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/Illwinter/Dom3/1.htm) Once you finish salivating over
the sheer grandeur the game offers head on over to the official Shrapnel Games e-store,
the Gamers Front at www.gamersfront.com/xcart/home.php (http://www.gamersfront.com/xcart/home.php) and place your order. After
all, when the Awakening comes, you don't want to be left behind, now do you?

Please visit www.shrapnelgames.com (http://www.shrapnelgames.com) for our complete catalog of the best independent
strategy games available anywhere. From fantasy to military to sci-fi, Shrapnel Games
has something for everyone. Well, we don't have anything if you're a radioactive mutant
gopher, but we're working on it.

Great news !! Hope to get it next week, but a little bummer was a part of the press release

"Or just say you've come down with a sudden case of agoraphobia and if you step outside you're sure the squirrels, which have been plotting all summer to bring you ruin and destruction, will finally make their move."

Me suffering from a severe agoraphobia isnt very amused by this line... I know it wasnt a bad intention, but having gone through a lot of bad times i really dislike reading such stuff. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Dont get me wrong im not asking for excuse or something, it really isnt that wrong from you but i jut had the feeling to voice myself after reading it.

Anyways i cant wait for my dom3 copy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The press release has a typo. Shib-Niggurath should be Shub-Niggurath. Otherwise, it's one of the best press releases I've ever read, particularly that Shub-Niggurath line. But perhaps that's my excitement talking.

Especially since I just received notice that my order shipped. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

About Shipping

Hi All:

We have already had several people write to customer support wanting to know why they haven't got their shipping notice yet. I just want to make this clear, and maybe cut down on the support requests a bit.

This is the largest pre-order we have ever had. Add to this, the physical size of this game and the extra shipping restrictions we are under due to weight, and this is going to be a slow release.

We are projecting that pre-orders (those orders placed before 6:00am EDST on 09/29/06) will take through Thursday, October 5th to ship.

We ship, as always, on a first ordered - first shipped basis. So maybe that will help you figure out about when you can expect your order to ship. We hope to trim some time off this schedule but it doesn't look like we will be able to get them out much faster.

Sorry. I know you all are looking forward to getting your game. We will do our best.

20,000? That sounds pretty crazy to me, Nerfix. Frankly, I'd be wowed by 500 - 1,000 for pre-orders and expect less than that. This is a niche game for a niche game type for what's becoming a niche playing system (PCs by comparison to consoles).

20,000 is better, believe it or not, than what many bigger label releases sell in their lifetime.

Sounds impossible, because the game is not well known. However after the demo is out, and more sites will post reviews, lot of people will order it, whose never played with Doms 2.
I think that the pre-orders came from the Doms 2. fans mainly.
Also I know 7 people just here in my "area" [they are living close to me], who are planning to order the game after they've played with the demo. [Well to be honest I have no clue that why do they wait, because they are playing TCP/IP games with us all week.]

Shipping Update

Okay. We are finished for the day. Orders placed through April 01, 2006 went out today.

We are shipping another round tomorrow, but only have a half day to do so. So probably fewer orders will ship tomorrow.

We will be working all weekend. Expect Monday to be the single largest day. And then we will hopefully finish up on Thursday.

Frankly, I'd be wowed by 500 - 1,000 for pre-orders and expect less than that.

Be wowed then. Be really wowed! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

This is the best press release of a shipping game I've ever read, and certainly does the game justice. Hi, I'm an employee at the digital printing facility where Shrapnel's manuals are created (and we're VERY excited to have their business, I might add!). I cannot divulge exact numbers due to company/client confidentiality restrictions, but I will say that we have printed and assembled a very... nice... number of Dom 3 manuals.

I use the word "nice" because I also just happen to be an active supporter of indie software publishers and developers (and a lifelong fan of Shrapnel products), and it's simply AWESOME to see this game explode onto the market like it has. And when I refer to the manuals, I use the word "assembled" because that's exactly what we did with them. These babies are coil-bound. If you've ever seen the manual for a Jane's flight sim, you're pretty close to knowing what the Dom 3 manual looks like. It's absolutely huge. Did I mention that it's COIL-BOUND?! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

In a day and age where we (as strategy/war gamers) are lucky to get a 20-page insert stapled inside a DVD case with our games, I have been consistently blown away by the quality and detail of the game documentation that Shrapnel has sent through my company's hands since we've been doing their work.

And yes, I've already read the manual thoroughly. A couple of times. I have lunch breaks, you see. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

This game is going to be amazing, and I can't wait to play it.

Congratulations to Shrapnel and Illwinter for releasing what's sure to become the next underdog strategy-gaming phenomenon! Oh, and just let us know when you'll be needing that next batch of Dom 3 manuals. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Shipping Update

We have completed shipping for today (Sep. 30th). All orders place through May 8, 2006 have now shipped.

We were expecting, after yesterdays shipments, to only get through April 15th, so this is good news. Of course, we started at 2:30 this morning http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif.

We are now working on Monday's shipments.

One other thing, we have heard from a few people who ordered yesterday that they shouldn't have, because their order won't ship until late next week, they should have just waited. Let me just say that that is a bad idea (if you are anxiously waiting to play Dominions 3, that is) for two reasons. First, we are moving ahead of schedule and that is a good thing (and we hope it continues!). And second, we had a net gain in shipments of less than 75 units based on the huge number of orders for yesterday. Wait and it may just be that much longer before your order ships. We promise, we are working almost around the clock to get the orders out, but this is a big release and it could take a while to get caught up what with the amount of new orders coming in.

Cheers!

Tim, would it be possible for me to just stop by with my Paypal and GamersFront receipt and pick my copy up? It would be one less package for you guys to have to ship. If so, what hours on what day would it be possible? I can even send an email or call ahead of time so that someone has it ready and doesn't have to stop their hard work to take care of me. Oh yeah, I'm looking for extra work too, so you could pay me a couple $$ and I could help ship them faster. Okay, that last part was a joke http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif (but not really...)

I'd say total around 4,000, problably a tad less, pretty good for an indy "niche" game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I second that. You are a great team and I'm really glad you are IWs publisher.
In this time when quality strategy PC games are becoming (imo) a niche, you are one of the few publishers that only publish quality strategy games, with the manual, with care for the costumers and developers, so my thanks (and hopes for more great games in the future) goes to you.

Hello all! I just came up for air and apologize for not being here today. I'll try to respond to some of the questions and comments.

coobe - I'm sorry, very sorry. We (collectively as a company) have a bizarre sense of humor. We often poke fun at what are actually extremely sensitive issues. I don't think we've ever been known to be politically correct, but if it helps any, we ridicule each other on a daily basis. I think it's how we maintain a semblance of sanity. Again, I'm sorry. Our intent was not to offend.

Voidehawk - great to see you here! Gregg had told me there was a fan on staff. It's thanks to you guys and our equally awesome CD replicators that we were able to get a head start on shipping. Delivering the manuals prior to the promised date was waaaayyyyy cool. And they look awsome! Thank you!

RamsHead - Good luck at your interview http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Neophyte - Thanks for the compliment, but I can't take credit. Our press releases are penned by Scott Krol, who's imagination and wit continually astound us.

Jeffr - my pleasure.

BigJMoney - Where in North Carolina do you live? (Not that I recommend a pick up this week. Many of us haven't showered or slept - it's kind of like Origins game con on the third day).

For all the other compliments, thank you. Please know we are thrilled to be doing this. Our entire staff knows the success of this company lays in the hands of our customers.
Okay, I feel like I'm accepting an Oscar. How obnoxious is this?

I hear testing of the demo is going well. Illwinter is meticulous about wanting it to be the best they can make it. If that takes extra time, it will be worth it. We'll let you know as soon as it's ready and appreciate your patience.

I live right around the beltline in Knightdale. If I can come, I'll be sure to bring a video camera for incriminating evidence, muahahahahahahaa.... Anyway, when I found out Shrapnel was in Cary, I was like, "that is so friggin cool!". There is also a guy around Cary named the War Gamer or something. Gregg speaks truth! Hey, I'm all for doing whatever it takes to get Shrapnel games out into the marketplace as quickly as possible (for purely personal and selfish reasons, I'll admit http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ). I will certainly pass your sentiments on to our small format and bindery departments, as they are the true superstars behind the quick turnaround for those manuals. Me, I'm just a bit of off-the-clock quality control. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I've actually been a Shrapnel fan for about 3 years longer than I've been with the company, so you can imagine how stoked I was when I first learned that we'd be handling your print work. I think I said something along the lines of, "Shrapnel? Shrapnel Games? THE Shrapnel Games?" And then I might have done a little dance or something. I can't quite recall. Well, I can recall, but I'd never admit it. Hehe.

My buddies and I all pre-ordered on the first day it was available. I here in Virginia haven't received it yet (UPS does not deliver on weekends, at least not here), but one of my friends got his on Friday.

I was somewhat confused by that until I read the conversation in the last few posts... my friend lived in Cary, NC., so for all I know, one of the Shrapnel guys might have dropped it off in his mailbox to save shipping.

He has been spending the entire weekend sending us annoying little zingers via email. "Did you know that Sauromatia is not the same thing as early-era C'tis?" "I really like what they've done with 'Enigma of Steel' Ulm, don't you?"

The bastard.

I'm not sure who War Gamer would be. There are so many in that area. One of Gary Gribsby's team lives in our old neighborhood. And a good friend of ours who is an artist for Ubisoft lives nearby. There's also a man who runs an online board wargame store from Cary...Let me know if you find out.

The downtown area is beautiful and there are so many beaches nearby. If I could live where I'd like, there's no question it would be in Wilmington. I do miss those days when there was free public beach access at Carolina and Kure, though. Too many people around now to have that. Oh yeah, and when you could drive on Kure at night hours (for free!) as well. Those days are sorely missed. I blame all the people from the lesser states, wanting to move in and ruin our lifestyle.

They are located in UK, so things like extra taxes to us european can be avoided.

Well I've already pre-ordered the game, just like many of my friends. I still know some people who plans to order the game after they've seen the demo. So can I say to them that they can order it from tuxgames? I mean, they will only have a linux version, or there isn't a separated Linux version of Doms 3. at all? I guess there will be only 1 master disk with Linux/Windows/Mac install files.
I just only want to tell them about the site, because they could get it much faster from the UK then from the US, if they decide that they would like to order it as well.

All three installations are one CD. There was no separate printing for Linux or Mac only.

Shipping Update

Hi all!

It's been a while http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

As some of you are aware we shipped alot of orders today. Having half of Saturday and all day Sunday without the usual interruptions allowed us to get alot done. We have shipped all pre-order through September 16. I think we even got one or two of those orders place on the 17th, but not the majority. We are now anticipating completing shipping all pre-orders tomorrow. That would be all orders through September 29 placed before 6:00 am EDST.

On Wednesday, we will then start shipping those orders placed after release (orders placed after 6:00 am EDST on 09.29). We hope to be caught up on all orders by next Friday or Saturday, although that is just an estimate, as we have received many orders since release and are getting more each hour of each day. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

No not normal - usually. You see, with most games, we ship your order within 24 hours. If your game is pre-ordered, which means we don't have product yet, your order will move to backordered. Also, if we run out of stock on something it will move to backordered.

Dominions 3 is unusul in that we had so many pre-orders, that we were unable to ship orders place after product release (we always ship on a first ordered first shipped basis -- only fair) and so we had to move those orders to backordered status so that they wouldn't clog up the system. After all, we are still shipping our other products within 24 hours of ordering.

Once we catch up on Dominions 3 shipments, things will work as normal and orders will start shipping within 24 hours (and won't move to backordered).

Sorry for the troubles.

We hope to be caught up on all orders by next Friday or Saturday, although that is just an estimate, as we have received many orders since release and are getting more each hour of each day. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Thanks for everyones' patience.

You'll see lots more orders one week after the demo becomes available.

Yepp, I am pretty sure also. I can speak in the name of a couple of friends of mine, who refused to order the game until they've seen the demo. I was like "HUH?!", since they are playing with Doms 2. a lot.

You should've order it from tuxgames. They are shipping it from the UK. IF its true 2-3 days and you can have your copy from there.

Hm I'm not sure, because now there is an Impulse Buy option even for Dominions 3. on their site. [Impulse Buy: save even more time when ordering, ergo they can ship it even faster compared to "normal" buy.]

first it was 'the biggest preorder ever', now this:
approximately how big a number is many ?

1000? 5000? (N+1)?

("more each hour" = at least 150/week, but not enough info to make an estimate).

We don't give out exact numbers. But, knowing that the preorder was our biggest ever, and you take the average number pre-ordered per day, we are now selling 28 times more per day.

At this rate, we will surpass the pre-order number this weekend.

You can pull a little loophole there. UK Customs duty only applies to goods coming into the country - according to UK law, software isn't classed as a good, ergo the value of the import is whatever the media and manual are worth.

The problem is it still has to work it's way through the UK postal system, which is all screwed up due to the new pricing thing. Last time I sent a letter first class it took a week to arrive. I remember when they were guaranteed in two days. Could be worse though - at least we don't need to worry about the Christmas rush.

Does anyone know how sales from this game compares to Dominions II sales? Is it more, or "many times more"? I'm curious, because it would be great to see Illwinter be empowered to do things with Dominions or another game they had not previously been able to.

I suppose this question cannot technically be answered for several months, but only a forecast can be established.

Well, I can only tell you what we are projecting. First off, Dominions II did very well. We believe it could have done even better and that we, Shrapnel, dropped the ball with the manual.

As for Dominions 3, we are projecting that we will double, and maybe triple the sales of Dominions II. Of course that is just a projection. Alot has to fall into place. Reviews must be good, fans such as yourself will need to talk it up on other forums, etc. We are off to a good start though. Dominions 3 Pre-orders were over double those of Dominions II. And after-release sales, well, they are going very well compared to Dominions II. But it is very early and alot has to fall into place -- only time will tell.

Tim, as a strategy and role playing game player for years - pnp, board, online, single player PC - you're completely correct about the dropping of ball on the Dom II manual. I ordered. I recieved. I read the manual. I started playing and had no idea what I was doing. I didn't have a month straight to dicker with the uninformative interface. I moved on. Was awful. And the manual seemed so, uh, large. But the information available online was far too esoteric and time intensive for me to bother with forums, much less try multiplayer. Dom2 dropped off my radar within a month.

Got my shipping notice today and am very very excited (you guys have done a fantasic job of gettin' them out, and THANKS!!!). I hope it's different this time, regarding the manual. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif And that I'll be checkin' these forums daily as some of us have a propensity to do with other games. heheh

PS and completely OT: Is there a way to occlude 'signatures' when reading the forums? No offense to folks like DominionsFan of course, but for me, his signature is really obtrusive and wastes a lot of screen space.

On top right part of the screen, you can see Main Index, Who's Online, Search, etc. Choose My Home.

In there, near the bottom, under Main Configuration, you can see "Display preferences, number of shown threads...", and to its right, a link to edit those preferences. Uncheck the last checkbox on the bottom of that screen.

Well, I'm a lurker on shrapnel forums since I discovered dominions 2, but din't register until now.

I'm afraid that I will start with a question for Shrapnel : what about gmes ordered with tuxgames.com ?

I can't find any information on their website on my order except that my payment has been validated.

Living in France, I ordered with them as advised on this forum for Europe, but even if shipment is supposed to be faster, If they didn't received a special treatment and must themselves wait for the game to arrive, I fear I won't even have the game this week or worse.

Can you confirm if they already have the game or not (at least if they have received some - if they didn't get enought and there's delay for some orders because of that, it's another problem) ?

What worry me is that dom3 is still listed in their "coming soon" section with "Availability Expected 02 Oct 2006", with no update since.

Is there someone on this forum ordered with them and has since received the game (or any information) ?

I don't know that specific website, but as for other websites I frequent, the impulse buy has nothing to do with shipping. It has to do with speeding up the ordering process. Rather than adding an item to you cart, then checking out, then filling out information and clicking on confirmation pages, you click one button and the order is processed immediately. I'm not saying this is the case with tuxgames, but I thought I'd present the possibility.

I doubt their warning message changes with the games you choose.

It's fair warning, since some of the stuff they sell is Linux-only versions of games that already appear on other platforms. There's the slight risk of a user who's looking for a such a game not realizing that he's getting one for the wrong OS. With this one, it's not applicable, because the official distribution is multiplatform.

After Annete said delivery to Israel costs 7$ I was surprised to see it costing only 5$ (for Global Priority. What's the difference between that and "airmail parcel" anyway?)

Then I noticed I was so dumb I put it on the First Name in the Last Name field, and vice versa.(Or maybe that was a computer error) And I only noticed that after I finished everything and got the "Invoice" thingey.
I hope that's not a problem, but either way I got a support ticked over at GamersFront.
Don't suppose a Tim or an Annete could pop by here and give me an answer earlier http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif (My ticket number was a thousand and something, so I'm guessing it will take a while for an answer :|).

I just got home from work. Only had a chance to browse the manual while running the installation. Haven't even played yet. While flipping through the manual to get a feel for it I noticed a paragraph on page 4 that left me scratching my head for a moment:

There is an Amber Clan backstory that is essential to playing Dominions 3, it plays such a pivotal role in the game everyone should know it if they truly wish to get the maximum amount of satisfaction out of the game. Here it goes: The Amber Clan Tritons mainly frolic, this has made them powerful. While frolicking they listen to whale songs, this has made them magical. When they occasionally do not frolic they fashion items made out of the amber that is so prevalent in their special provinces, this has given them the name The Amber Clan Tritons. -Johan Osterman

Hey, do you have any idea how long it will take for it to arrive with the faster delivery option?

I'm pretty sure it's usually 4 to 7 days to Finland. You can check at the USPS website (http://www.usps.com) Click on calculate postage, then international. There's a pull-down member to select your country. Select "package" and you should see a list of delivery types and the estimated time of delivery.

Yay, I ordered the game!

Don't suppose a Tim or an Annete could pop by here and give me an answer earlier (My ticket number was a thousand and something, so I'm guessing it will take a while for an answer :|).

I've verified that customer support completed your ticket yesterday. Your order is in good standing and your first and last name will appear properly on the shipping label.

Thanks for using our online customer support center, guys. It's much quicker and reliable than waiting for us to pop in here!

My Dominions_3 game was sent Monday and arrived Wednesday(yesterday). I also live in Arizona just to give others an idea of when they can expect their package to arrive.

One other important detail no one has mentioned which had my heart stop for a minute... the DOM_3 CD is inside the shrink wrapped manual. So when you open your package don't fear the CD didn't arrive until you look inside the manual.

Mine was also sent on Monday and arrived today... ...so, 3 days from USA to Finland, quite fast.

There was even a hand written error code on the address and a comment (in Finnish, of course) "Door to street locked". I just wonder how the delivery guy bypassed that obstacle when performing his duty.

Installing now...

Just wanted to mention, briefly, that my 25th of September order arrived here in Oregon *and* after half an hour spent reading the manual, little typos and all, Bruce?

You're a hero.

My partner, she's going to hate me for weeks if not months. In a few thousand years I'll, with the assistance of this manual, be able to finally have my butt kicked by some of the champions that stuck with Dominions II and know every cranny and nook.

Did I mention that you're a hero?

Tutorial this weekend. *wink and grin*

Actually, I wouldnt be too surprised if it was. After linking to the demo on gamer.co.il, a popular gaming website, my responses were: "I saw the screenshots, the demo isn't worth downloading" and "The tutorial is useless, I have no idea what I'm doing. Also, I've lost 6 knight* battalions to 2 archer ones, WTF?"
*-If they were actualy knights, I would find that almost impossible to happen, I suppose he meant some other unit. Remember this is just a translation from hebrew.

Well, if you saw some of reports from local gaming sites you would really get angry. A guy there was spitting all over Dom3 before even demo came out because, catch this, he didn't like jokes in Dom3 advertising. Bad humor he says. They couple days later he posts that demo came out for turn based RTS Dom3.

I say that there should really be IQ test for ppl who post news and do reviews. Oh, and no drugs and alcohol test too.

There's only a few online game review sites I ever pay attention to. You tend to find most of them on the net are full of aspiring game journo's who failed to actually get into print, and phrases such as turn based rts show you why...

Yesterday I installed the demo, because I thought I'd still have a few weeks' wait ahead of me - mailed on Tuesday to Germany via Global Priority Mail.

Well, the game arrived today. I paid only 5$ for delivery, but the stamps on the envelope amounted to about twice that amount. Great service! Thank you very much!

My first impressions are from the demo and the handbook:

My 12-year-old watched me play the tutorial and now is really excited about the game, although it is not in German! I am glad that hotseat is an option.

As for the handbook, I can't remember one this good. Ever. And I play strategy games since the days of the C64. Previously I had only dabbled a bit with the Dom2 demo, given up mainly in awe of the huge map and the vast amount of micromanagement necessary. Therefore I know very little about how Dominions actually works. But now, reading the manual, it is as if all the pieces are falling into place and everything becomes crystal clear. I'm probably too optimistic here, but you get my meaning ;-)

That sounds right. Usually, if you live in a less remote area, then it is the lesser time. The more postal facilities it has to clear the longer it takes.
