View Full Version : So, any hosted MP Dom3 games starting up?

I realize that IRC is often the first place people go for those, but it's hard for me to do so at work. Anyone got something starting that I can jump in on? No preferences on game-type, although prefer hosted to PBEM. I just want to start playing!

I will probably host a big PBEM once I get my copy.

Start small. Things might not work as you expect them to, and I think you'll all want to try lots of different strategies first. Fast games in small maps, that's nice for learning. And there's lots to learn.

Who knows, maybe few weeks/months later we will start that infamous huge game with 50+ players with nations from all eras. Why make ladders when we can have whole forum in one game? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Yeah, I know I'm nuts. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I'll take RoR Caelum. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Yikes. I'd hate to be the host of that game. Hopefully a PBEM server will be around for that monumental task. We all know EA will sweep that game, though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

As is, my computer's a little slow doing full turns in the early stages of an 18-person single-player game. And it's a fairly new (2 years) laptop. I shudder to think what hosting a all-eras game would look like. As is, I'm scaling back on mine.

One neat note - Did you know that now, as the computer hosts turns, it'll show you each individual step, in order, of how it's resolving each turn? The manual actually documents the hosting schedule in terms of what events happen when as well. VERY neat stuff.

That happens in map generation as well. "Drawing stuff". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

For some reason, the schedule in map generation reminds me of those TV shows where you'd watch a guy paint mountains for you. "Adding color"; "Adding forests"; "Drawing stuff".

Good times. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

That's some good advise. Also my PBEM hosting utility will probably need some updates for working with dom III (unless the command line switches for hosting and verifying remain the same).

Heh. Yep - 'cause after 2 weeks, you'd have 5-10 players wanting the game paused or replacement players, or simply staling every turn, proceeding to get worse and worse. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I would play in such a game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

But I am http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/stupid.gif

I am real easy as well concerning what nation I play, any will do.

Plus I always fight to the bitter, bitter end. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif

Still waiting for my Dom 3, was shipped on Monday, so everything crossed I get it by Saturday.

A game with all nations would be sick, would also be extremely funny on some maps (50+ players on aran, less than 2 provinces per player http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif). I'd be happy to participate in any game starting up, also if any of you guys are free to blitz on sunday please PM me.

I think you should wait until some-one decides to host (and what era ect will be used)

Yep that's what I am waiting for, a host volunteer. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Guess everyone's to busy playing SP at the mo... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

My guess is that potential hosts realize that the first few MP games announced here are going to be both (a) filled eagerly and immediately and (b) fraught with minor but annoying technical difficulties. I sympathize entirely, and I am not brave enough to step forward.

If I were, though, I would name the game "Fools Rush In".

Im the most foolish person here and i challenge anyone here to prove me otherwise (another foolish mistake..) but, i just barely have the time to join a PBEM game right now, nevermind hosting one.

Yes, forum MP game would be nice. We could start several games, one for newbies, another for experienced players. This way everybody could find opponents on their level.

I'm currently tied up in two major time consuming DOM-II MP games. Once I get free of at least one of them I'll host a small-medium sized PBEM.

Hmmm, is there another place people meet to set up PBEM games? Unfortunately I don't have the time to host one but I'd love to join one and it doesn't look like anybody's stepping forward here. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

There's a place where people organize quick blitz games. #dominions on irc.gamesurge.net . You need an IRC client, too. Blitz games are fast and furious, and if they take too long someone leaves and it's very hard to get the exact same people there at the same time again to continue the game, so longer games don't work.

Greetings, my copy arrived in a few minutes ago. Count me in with Mann, Sauromatia or Caelum or something else, if all that is taken.

I ready to throw myself into a MP game myself. For the very first time so I will probably be an easy conquest. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

So what is required for me to host a game?

You need a computer with D3 installed and an email address. Some free time helps too. Hope we can play together some time.

this thread was 2 months old, not sure you will have any luck here mate.

Gandalf parker has a game server set up that has open games ready for people to start.

What is the access for that server? ip address, whatever else we need.. house rules. Was this brought up in a thread i missed?

Gandalf posted the info in this thread:

http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=476832&page=0&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

We just started up a game on one of the servers there yesterday (4 players), but there are quite a few more left. And judging by the speed our game filled up I think it shouldn't be too hard to find a few people to play with.

For the blitz games check here...
http://game.dom3minions.com/bin/blitz_chk.cgi
It lists the blitz games that are open and has a link for a page on how to join one
