I used it with three star 9 Air Virtue... (and a number of other mages)

The problem I used to have with orb lightning was that a high air mage, especially with precision boosting items/spells, landed seven or eight bolts in the same square. Good versus SCs, but do you REALLY need to hit that knight four times? I haven't tryed the new version, but I can't really see why the damaged was lowered. I never thoguht it was imbalanced.

Was it lowered? I thought it was still 10an?

Yeah, I know that over-precision is an old problem with OL, but I'm not even seeing those knights getting hit seven times.
And the damage stayed same from Dom 2 AFAIK. In Dom 1 it was, IIRC, 10 AN+ which meant it got monstrously strong with higher mages.

Is it me or did the spell get severely toned down? The graphics are very cool but my mages have hard time hitting things with it even at a close range and they don't seem to do much damage, it's as if most of the lightnings would miss their targets.

I know the individual bolts are much less effective that the lightning spell. My take on it is that if you don't have at least A5, use lightning instead. Remember that A5 means Precision+5, to boot.
