View Full Version : AI Mictlan is not too bright.

I've noticed in the last few SP games I've played that EA Mictlan tends to implode and die in the first few turns of the game due to lack of dominion. I'm guessing the AI is whipping up dormant/imprisoned pretenders and then not blood sacrificing maybe?
Is this just something fluky that happened to me or are other people seeing this?

It has been reported few times. Sometimes spesifically as Mictlan, sometimes as nations in general dying out of lack of dominion.

Yeah, AI has problems playing Mictlan, also it is taking very bad scales many times with any nations randomly. I am sure that the devs will fix these, just be patient.

Heh, last game I played on a small map vs cpus, wiped out a cpu had about 8 provinces... ran into another cpu, figured he'd have around the same amount, his borders seemed about that size... but I am closing in on him, and I notice there are a ton of neutral provinces around him... I realize his empire is actually cut into pieces, and the neutral provinces are full of barbarians... I have a "duh" moment and check his scales -- turmoil 2, misfortune 3... turmoil/misfortune is flatout suicide with the strength of their turmoil-type invasion events.

Uh, I thought that was fixed way back in Dom2. I'd report that in bug thread as this dominion is suicide indeed.

Mictlan is one of the harder nations to play for humans. Im not surprised that a general purpose AI doesnt do well with it.
But if someone comes up with simple (3 words, 4 words, one line at most) thing that the AI can do to fix that then Im sure it will be considered for adding.

I can do it in two words.
Blood sacrifice.

I would advise making a change where all capitals cannot have their own dominion lower than 1 for the first 10 turns. This would greatly help keeping Mictlan as the AI alive longer.

I haven't looked at Mictlan yet in Dom 3, but do they still have the site that gives them 5 blood slaves/turn in the capital? If so, scripting them to blood sacrifice every turn with the first priest they recruit wouldn't hurt and shouldn't really effect the game much.

Three blood slaves, not such a huge difference.

That's in Early Era. In Late Era it's only one. But Late Mictlan rocks in so many other ways that I can work around the initial difficulties in spreading dominion.

Apart from the Frogzards, doesn't LA Mictlan have any significant differences?

high priest of sun B2/F2, Forgzard with W3/B2/110% random. Little frog priest (B1/W1), forgsacred unit. not much differance.

Otherwise the troop roster is same as in MA?
For the record I like the frogzards. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The capital priests are much cheaper in the Late Era.

Oh? That's certainly handy. I ran a test with them once but I mostly just recruited the frogzards.

Frogzards are... well, they're frogs! why anyone would recruit anything else is beyond me. Seriously, they're way to cool to miss. I built armies of them. As far as sacreds go, they're not too great, but they're sooooo cool.

They're cute.
LA Atlantis is one of my favorite nations. Hordes of squat lil' frogzards that are doing their best trying to look evil with all that ice and bone. And then they stop the enemies with Harpoons and chop them down with Bone Glaives. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The best point about LA Mictlan is that the addition of Atlantians means they are a true underwater race. They can easily expand into oceans and can build PD under the sea, etc. They can't be build underwater fortresses, but living castle takes care of that.

Ummm... underwater PD for late era mictlan? What units do they get? Normal LE mictlan PD isn't aquatic...

Good question, and very intersting answer:
Commander 1: Consort
Units 1+: Atlantian Militia, Atlantian Shield Wielder
Commander 20: Coral Queen
Units 20+ Atlantian Militia, Atlantian Light Infantry
