Please tell me if I rememeber it correctly - the "search" command makes the unit un-hide, right? So if the stealthy commander is searching province, which is attacked by enemy on the same turn, than stealthy unit would participate in combat, right?

If I remember correctly "Summon allies", and "build" commands also unhide units, right?

Yes, any order exept for "hide" or "assassinate/seduce" will have your unit un-hide.

...or Preach, for the fairly few stealthy preachers.

Or 'Corrupt Commander', but that's a wee bit specific -- I know of only one commander which can do it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

And the spy's command. Cause unrest, whatever it's actually called.

'Instill Uprising'. Aye. Fun if, say, you're MA TC.

By the way... be warned when infiltrating Dreamlands territory. Insanity gives commanders random orders -- usually non-stealthy orders. /threads/images/Graemlins/Dagger.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/skull.gif

In enemy land, you're right. But in friendly lands, stealthy preachers will join in the defence. Which is good when you use your blessing-casting priests to preach while sieging. No way to be hidden + preaching in your own land. At least none I've found.
