Why aren't they dark inside?

because they're inhabited by the glowing mushroom people

I think it's because there aren't that many cave-dwelling races. If all cave-provinces were held by Troglodytes and Cavemen and Abysians and demons and Atlantians, i.e. races with Darkvision, they would be much harcer to take even for those nations (like Agartha) who also have darkvision. And if they were affected by Darkness but defended by normal units, well, that wouldn't work either. Why would anyone live there?

I thought they were dark. Like 50% skill reduction or so.

Cave dwelling races have at least 50% darkvision. I only included darkvision units in the idep poptypes in accordance with my belief thet caves were dark. Hmm, it might have disappeared together with the demon darkvision disappearence.

I was curious where these caves are besides the one new map that came with the 3.04 patch? I really love Agartha but I cant seem to find anywhere the darkvision is actually useful. Is it just me or can I not find these? I appricate it! I think dark provences is what would help counterballance Agartha's normal horrid fighting in sunlight.

Well darkvision is useful in cave provinces, cave castles, while the spell utterdark is in effect and in battles when darkness is cast.

I think the new maps is the only one to make use of caves so far. But there is at least one Dom2 map that has an "underworld" section. It would be great if that person updated it.
