I think the battle has a limit about 50 round
after that, the attack side is forced retreat
however, the side break siege should retreat back to fort
sorry for may poor english

Hi pino !
I'm not sure what happened at your battle. But if one side choose to "break siege" this side is the attacking side. If unable to win, this side can *not* retreat back to the fortress. Make sure that a neighboring province is under your control before you try to "break siege".

The rule is that units can't retreat into a sieged fort, this prevents armies from other provinces getting inside the fort even though they couldn't break through the siegers. Since an army attacking from inside a fort can't be distinguished from one trying to break the siege from the outside (infact such armies combine if they attempt on the same turn) there is no easy way to make a special case where they can retreat back inside.
It doesn't completely make sense the way it is, but it's very unlikely to get changed.

I think that units should retreat to where come from...
anyway, if the retreated units get into a enemy country, should make a new battle, rather than all die
in my save game, I break siege in my last province...>_<
this rule make no sense..

Also, there is a 50 round limit on combats before everyone gets autorouted. IIRC there are another 50 round after that where everyone not routed gets auto-killed (in case there are any paralyzed folks stuck out there).
Though I thought the number of rounds was changed from dom2 to 3.

Pino,
I don't have an answer for you, but I am very curious what units you had that did such a great job of smashing the huge Ulmish army! Please tell!

Ten pimped up thugs/SCs?:) Thugs with good weapons and quickness from items don't need too much chaff to handless loads of infantry.
Still, the numbers are impressive.

Was this SP or MP? If SP, I'd like to know how the AI got 1800 guys in one province. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif

So you killed over 1500 units with less than 40? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
Were you playing Niefelheim and all your units Niefel Jarls and Niefel Giants? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I abandoned a game against the AI when it became too slow to deal with due to 3000+ undead armies from Ermor. At the time I quit I could see over 8000 units of his.

Ermor's a special case, at least Late Age.
