I don't remember to have read anywhere in the game or in the manual that demons needs undead leadership, but they request it.

It's been that way since Dominions PPP and I don't think it's going to change much. No need either. Undead are a corruption of life and there is thus a comparison to draw with demons who also tend to be nasty, corrupt evil etc, so might as well put them in the same category leadership-wise.

Actually, the demon tag didn't exist until DomII. Before that, demons were labeled as undead.

Good to know. Now I have to find a new taxi for my demons ...

Hmm... this is really strange. Seems to me that Magical leadership should be used instead. I see no reason why death magic gives control over demons.

blood magic gives undead leaderships as well but only a quarter (+5) but its easier to cast tons of undead then tons of demons.

Still, I do not understand why Necromancers are most suited to lead demons.

It would be nice if there was a more thematic way to get demonic leadership, especially for LE Marignon which should abhor death magic.
There aren't even any good demonic commander summons. Plenty of SCs, but that's not very efficient.
The commander Devil from Hordes from Hell is the best I've found.

I am using mound kings to lead my demons, funny a mere mound king ordering a demon knight about http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Do not disrespect the king! Is there any other commander we know for sure to be intelligent? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I hadn't realized Blood without Death nations might have problems leading all the demons. A low-level Construction item similar to Rod of the Leper King (but without the disease) would help.

In fact I've EA Pangea, a good blood nation without undead leadership (fortunately I have a N6D7 carrion pretender). This Forces Pangea to take death. In fact, if you take off blood and carrions you are left with a couple of sneaky furry naked luxurious beings who make orgies in the forest all day, not a nation conquering the world.
