Does Shrapnel Games have a game that rivals or surpasses War In The Pacific? I have been kicking around the idea of buying this game but would rather spend my money here than over at matrix games.

So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean the board game by Decision Games? You know I can't give an unbiased opinion, AT http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif But tell us what kind of wargames you enjoy, and we'll try to steer you to the right demo.

Thank, I was actually thinking of a PC game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Right now I just want to find a game that is semi easy to learn to play but enjoyable enough to keep me going. I know thats kinda vage. I once bought a game called Hearts of Iron and could never figure out how to play it. That soured me toward war games in general but now I find myself wanting to give them another run.

I remember Hearts of Iron. I played it and it took me a while to figure it out. I wasn’t too crazy about it though but I can’t recall what in particular my problem with it was. I would really like to see a Supremacy type game and have MP support for it. Well with a game like Supremacy I suppose you pretty much have to have MP support as I don’t see an AI being able to play it well. That game takes too much foresight and planning plus you have to be able to adjust mid stride if you want to keep your plans in motion. No, I don’t recall ever seeing a game AI that was that intelligent or adaptive.

As one of the guys over at Holistic Gaming pointed out in an essay many years ago, what we have in games is not really an artificial intelligence; that would be far more complex.

What we have is not an AI, but an AO, or artificial opponent http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Now, that said, the best ones I have ever seen have been in the form of bots in various FPS games.

The old Reaper Bot for Q1 wasn't at all bad, and the stock bots that shipped with Quake 3 were better. Furthermore, those stock Q3 bots could be easily modded to be even better, smarter, and nastier than the stock versions thereof.

Of course, tactical decision making is probably an order of magnitude more simplistic than strategic planning.

Oh, and I don't care how much anybody praised the "AI" in Half-Life II, those mobs sucked in comparison to the efforts from id software http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

If you like it then you can pick up the enhanced CD version from the Gamers Front here (http://www.gamersfront.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16169&cat=264&page=).

At least give it a try and tell me what you think!
