Hi
I’ve downloaded and installed winSPWW2 and patched it to Ver1.1B.
When I try to start the game I get this:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
WINSPWW2 caused an invalid page fault in
module <unknown> on address 0000:83ca775a.

The requirements for the game are as stated here: Game Requirements (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/SPCamo/wSPWW2/8.htm)
You have Directx 4, when version 8.1 or better is required. That could be the problem.
I would try upgrading your DirectX to version 8.1.
NB - the game requirements are also in the manual, and if you cannot launch the game, you can get to that by navigating to program files/shrapnel games/winspww2/game notes folder and opening the spww2guide.htm file

Hi
No I don’t have DirectX 4, but I agree the way Dxdiag shows the DirectX version can be slightly confusing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
Version Number: 4.09.0000.0902
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0b
DirectX info found here:
http://www.computerhope.com/directx.htm
However I found a solution to this problem:
In the Game Options I changed “Show Introduction” from Yes to No and now can I start the game without any problems. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif
Merry Christmas

Strange - as the splash screen uses DirectShow, which is rather old tech.
The only thing I can think is that one of the splash screen images is corrupt or you may have disk corruption.
Try opening the splashscreen pics in the game data\pictures\interface folder and see if any have errors?. Also - a run of scandisk may clear up any lost clusters etc.

Hi again
I tested the pics and all of them open without any problems. I then ran Scandisk and there were no errors.
I saw that the pics were in 24 bit colour and tested to change my desktop colour setting from 16 bit to 24 bit and the game now starts without any problems when “Show Introduction” is activated. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Just to check that out - I changed my colour to medium (16 bit) resolution and ran it with no problems, in XP at least.
