What does it do? I can't work out how to work out.

What it does is when the target is successfully hit, they will be automatically hit by the Heart Finding effect (another weapon) which will kill anything that fails an MR save unless the target is lifeless, in which case it's not affected by Heart Finding.

And if I remind correctly, if the target make the MR roll, he might still get a chest wound

Thanks guys.
What about things like the Eye Shield, which say the attacker "might" lose an eye? Is that an MR roll, or just a probability or what?

There's probably a MR roll and/or the need to parry an attack, but the effect is your opponents gaining the "blind" afflication when they attack you.

I think there is no MR roll, but might be wrong, since I can't remember where my idea that MR doesn't help came from.

There's an MR roll for Heart Finding. It isn't specified in the Heart Finder Sword weapon, but it IS specified in the Heart Finding weapon, which is damage death, MR negates.
The eye shield has the weapon effect Eyeloss, which may or may not allow MR rolls. I'll find out for the DB, though.

I was talking about the Eye Shield. I seem to remember that it's a useful anti-SC item, which would be true only if it is not effected by MR.

Ah. It probably isn't then, but will likely poke out just one eye per retaliation. Most creatures only have two, so they'll be blind in short order.

Last time I used the shield with a SC, I had soon him surrondered by blinds peaple, but I don't remind that there were some with only one eye missing.
I think that the shield directly go for the "blind" affliction, whatever the number of eyes

I'm pretty sure it just takes out one eye at a time actually, being as a load of my lovely sacreds just fled from a whooping by an eye-shield-bearing SC, with variously 0, 1 or 2 eyes remaining.
So if it isn't MR-based, do we reckon there's just a certain probability each time an attack is made on the shield bearer? Or perhaps there's only a danger if the bearer successfully parries with it?

If you play other games, think of "Heart Finder" as a chance for "critical hit".

As it is a "save-or-die" effect, it's more like a Vorpal Sword from D&D

My dusty memory is that the Eye Shield makes an attack of some sort when its holder is attacked, and the shield's attack pops an eye if it hits. I obviously don't remember the details though.

Too bad there's no Vorpal Sword artifact in the game. It might not actually be as deadly as a Heart Finder, considering Hydras would probably be immune and lots of other creatures are either 1: headless, 2: lifeless, 3: undead and simply consider the loss of a head a "fashion faux pas" or 4: like the Ettin, have a spare.
It'd be fun if your opponent mistakenly attacked a Hydra with a vorpal sword and only succeeded in making it stronger.

Or if they attack an Eyedra with an Eye Shield... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Question. Would an item that gives penetration bonus , such as eye of the void effect the attack from the Heart Finder Sword?
