View Full Version : Graeme's Server Status Thread

Graeme Dice

Since I'm running multiple games, I'll copy Sheap and start up a separate thread for news about my server status. The server is currently running version 3.04, and if no severe issues are reported will be upgrading to version 3.06 after the next set of turns are run.

Feel free to add your server info to the MP Server thread stickied at the top of the forum.

Same with LA, get waiting for info or lost in time and space.

I've rest the server yet again. Is there anyone who has not managed to play their turns who wishes to, or shall I force host?

I think you should force-host (in the LA game at least) - we've been on the same turn for a really long time.

Both the RandomNation and LateAged servers have been force-hosted. Could somebody tell me if it's okay to force-host the MiddleAged game, as I no longer am playing that one. Ermor missed the early nation game (RandomNation), and R'Lyeh missed the late aged game.

Middle Aged has fired off once since it came back on line and does not need a force.

Okay, thanks for letting me know. I'll let it continue to run.

If you were having trouble connecting last night, you should be able to connect now.

Three servers? Makes me want to put up that Sparc I have in the garage just to keep up. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Out of curiousity..
Linux? Windows? Mac? and what version of OS?
Are you trying any interfacing to other programs such as web or email?
Has it made you want to volunteer to run the official server, or just the oppossite? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Three games on one computer actually. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Linux? Windows? Mac? and what version of OS?

Windows 98 SE on a 766 MHz PIII with 256 MB of RAM. I've had up to five or six instances of Dom 2 running at once on it, so I know it could handle more, but the administrative overhead gets really large at that point with my flaky internet connection.

I tried a couple of times to find a program that would let me send out automatic email notifications, but haven't had much luck.

I don't mind hosting games, but I really hate when outside circumstances disrupt their smooth flow.

As an announcement to the players in my games, I've received notice from Shaw that my Internet connection will have service disruptions for up to five hours on the night of Feb. 22nd, so I'll delay all hostings by an extra 24 hours to accommodate any international players.

I believe R'lyeh is no longer playing, as he has staled the last dozen turns or so.

Any chance of putting him AI to speed the game up alittle?

In the LA game.

Graeme Dice

If he doesn't play the next turn, then I'll set him to AI.

Ive got a script on mine which compares the .trn files with the .2h files. There will always be a fresh .trn file due to timed hosting but if its more than 5 days newer than the latest .2h Ive received then I consider it dead.

Actually I dont use it so much for dead players as I do to look for dead games. With so many games running on my servers I had trouble keeping watch, and so many of them "ended" without the players taking it to the final screen so it would clear itself out.

I'd do exactly the same thing except for the fact that I'm running a Win98 machine and don't want to use Linux as it's my machine for playing old games that don't work under XP.

It should be possible to do the same thing with a batch file. Or it might take abit of programming (I tend to use basic for that)

Hi Graeme, just to let you know the LA game appears to be down. Just get please wait forever.

Xox

Yes, something up with the server.

lateaged makes me wait forever, have to reboot system,
and middle aged just doesn't find the game, but i can at least exit from that situation wihtout rebooting the system.

Graeme Dice

My computer crashed last night, so I rebooted it and it should be good for a while now.

The server is back up and upgraded now. Is it to much to ask for people to not send in turns made with patched clients until I say that the server has been patched?

The servers ok, no problems.
