Boosting priests

Are there ways to raise priest levels, different from the promotion to prophet?

I know there is a magic item (I don't recall the name), but other ways?

Having a large army of sacred units with killing bless strategies is cool, but what if you can't bless them all? Having a priest capable of casting Divine Blessing accompanying each Sacred army would be really useful...

Nope there is no boost beside prophet/item increase for priests.

Actually there is another way, as both astral & blood communion boost priestly levels.

Really? I'll try this out in my ermor mp game. 'Apostacy' costs 0 fatigue and is normally easy to resist. With a big communion it should be a real pain for enemy priests/sacreds. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

For the stated purpose though, you can just hire more priests, too...

There are two unique magic items that boost the holy level by 1:

The Sword of Justice
The Sword of Injustice

Under Blood magic, one of the summonable Ice Devils has Holy level 3. Cast Bind Ice Devil and hope you get Bune instead of one of the other 5 unique Ice Devils!

All these take awhile to get, so it's easier and cheaper to use communion and/or multiple blessers.

Doesn't the crystal shield raise priest levels too?

There is another way. Or atleast it worked in Dominions 2.

The Crystal sheild raises all paths (incuding holy) during combat only. And its not Unique.

The Crystal Shield works for mages but not for priests. The user must be a mage also having Holy level 2, in order to use the Crystal Shield to cast Divine Blessing.

Another possibility is empowering an H2 priest, giving him Astral magic level 1. Then he could use the Power of the Spheres spell to boost himself to H3. After that he can cast Divine Blessing.
